    IBS & VSG

I am a month post op and have had a couple ibs issues. My doc said the sleeve doesn't fix ibs but some find it easier to control after surgery bc, as others have said, you're less likely to eat trigger foods. For me it's more about stress though, so I do still have issues.

    Losing Slow At Very Beginning?

I just met with my surgeon yesterday and BEGGED him to tell me a calorie and carb goal. I don't know why they are so resistant to setting concrete goals! He recommended 1100 calories and 40 carbs...but that's impossible. Protein makes you so full you can't get 1100 calories without adding carbs and fat! I guess we just have to do trial and error. It's scary to up calories and even carbs but a couple days ago when I upped both (to 850 cal and like 60 carb) I lost 2 pounds after a 2.5 week stall! As for someone posting about gaining weight with exercise...sometimes that happens esp at first. You lose when you stop exercising bc you quickly drop muscle. So stick with the exercise cause it'll bring your sexy back for sure!
  4. Well y'all I have been kind of negative on this forum (at least in my mind!). I kept thinking I was losing so slowly. But today I went to my month follow up (surgery 1/23) and found out I have lost 20.7% of my excess body weight! I am 5'0. Preop 202 Today 186 Pounds lost 16 Goal weight 125 Pounds originally need to lose 77 (16/77) x 100 = 20.78%! So I encourage all y'all who are frustrated (like i was!) by the pounds on the scale to do a little math and see how much closer we are to goal.

    Quantity Question

I am 4 weeks out and can have one egg, or a mini baybel cheese with a slice of turkey. I can have a couple bites of chicken or fish but here's what I do so I don't get sick (warning it's kind of gross!): I chew and chew and chew without swallowing then when I want to swallow or when the food is sliding down my throat, I 'pull' the food up from my throat and back into my mouth to chew more and make it into a paste. If I get a piece of meat that can't be pulverized enough I *discreetly* spit it into my napkin. Have yet to get sick or anything with this method. Hope this helps!
  6. My doc said no driving until I felt like I could slam down on my breaks without being in pain. And of course once off pain meds. For me this took about 4 days. Def switch to 4 days bc you could even have to stay in the hospital longer than 1 day and miss the movie if two days post op. good luck!

    Protein powder brands?

Hi all. I a having a hard time finding a whey protein powder mix that doesn't make me gag. The two brads I tried (unjury and something from gnc) require so much powder that te texted of my food is completely ruined. Even a 1/4 scoop changed the taste and texture drastically. Any suggestions for a whey protein that require less powder for a lot of protein? Thanks so much!

    Protein Shake

I live off of two things: pure Protein frosty chocolate from GNC (35 G protein and like 4 carbs) and NOW whey protein isolate unflavored. I just discovered the NOW and you can even put it in crystal light and not taste it! Also at 25g high quality protein it's awesome. Ones I tried and didn't like: gnc lean protein (although others swear by it), isopure, muscle milk. unjury Protein Powder is good too but not as good as NOW in my opinion. Just have to try a bunch and see for yourself! Good luck!
  9. So I am three weeks out and had a piece of king cake. I'm not proud of it and I know it was a mistake. I should have demanded it removed from the house but I didn't. What I'm most concerned about is that I didn't even feel sick or full! I ate a normal serving size, and based on everyone else I thought I'd get sick but I am fine. This happen to anyone else? Is my sleeve too big? I don't know what to make of my slip or my sleeve's response.

    Never full! Help!

Thanks a lot mcwest. Good advice. I threw the cake out an told my Fam they just have to deal with it! Back to protein shakes and yogurt for me today!
  11. You may be feeling some effects of dehydration. It an cause your heart to beat faster and/or harder. It should go away as you get better about hydration and just as you heal! Always check with your doc but I'd bet money you're fine. Good luck!

    Never full! Help!

Aussie, I get it. I didn't post for a berating. We berate ourselves enough. I posted admitting it was a mistake and then asking if anyone else had a similar experience or knew why I didn't even get full. That scared me. I think I felt the need so badly bc my calorie intake has been too low with the workouts I'm doing. I never should have had the cake. So any constructive feedback? The nerve one is interesting and I hadn't thought of that. I will talk to my psychologist too. Thanks for any support.

Any recommendations what to start with

I am 3 wks out and started Zumba last Friday at 2.5 wks. My dr said do what I want after 2, listening to my body and avoiding crunches. I just do the Zumba to the best of my ability and don't twist and turn that much. Good luck!

Anyone told NOT to do situps and crunches?

The fear is a hernia, Intenal or external. Too much increase in intraabdominal pressure can stress on the tummy can cause bulging though areas of the stomach that don't close perfectly, leaving some areas weak. I am a fan of starting slow and listening to your body. The laparoscopic surgery DOES cut through your muscle but so do many other surgeries. Think all those c-section moms don't do abdominal exercises?! Haha but I agree, much better ways to work out abs than crunches. Good luck!

    Berries? Yes or no?

I do the same thing in the microwave. Peeled Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, a little Splenda, a dash of salt and lemon juice. Microwave for 5-6 min stirring halfway. Delic and fast! Can also sprinkle PB2 on it for some peanut flavor
  16. Hi all I was sleeves 1/23/13 and am in puréed stage. I find the only way I can get in all my protein is to mix my protein shake with a banana to balance it out and add some 'real food' taste. I realize this is a good bit of carbs added, esp when I have two shakes in a day. Is this too many carbs? My nut gave me no carb recommendations so asking y'all. I 'eat' about 600 calories a day and average 30g sugar. Thoughts? Thanks!

    Shorties...

Hi shorties! I was sleeved 1/23. I'm 4'11.5". Highest weight 222. Presurgery weight 202; now 189. I haven't seen the scale move since last Monday so one week with no change. Trying not to get frustrated. Really bad constipation to the point I think I'd lose five pounds if I could go! Recommendations?

    fruit craving help please

    Celery and coconut????

    fluids help please

My dr and nut say count half of the protein shakes as liquid. I like that compromise. So a 12 ounce shake counts 6 ounces towards fluid goal.

    Pain when drinking

Oh, and track dehydration easily by looking at your pee. As long as it's still clear you're fine. Worry about dehydration if you are getting dizzy when standing, feel extremely weak, dizzy when go for a walk, delirium. An try some warm broths as those felt better for me

    Pain when drinking

I had the same problem for probably a week post op. I am 2.5 weeks out now and have no problems. I actually had pain to the point of keeling over after every sip. My doctor told me to just focus on the fluids (esp some with electrolytes like diluted G2) and not worry about the Protein. That way you get enough Water to keep dehydration at bay while waiting for the pain to go away. It is normal to have esophageal spasms and stomach spasms right now. There is a ton of inflammation in there that can cause the muscles to go a little crazy but it'll get better! Best of luck and if it gets so severe you can't keep fluids down call doctor at once.
  22. In the market for a small scale that's accurate. Thanks!
  23. I am 2.5 wks post op and am starting to incorporate puréed and really crunchy foods per my surgeon. I understand we aren't supposed to drink 30 min before or after, but I can't imagine why. Right now my goal with eating is to try new foods and see how I tolerate them. I am not eating for fullness (I'm not really hungry to begin with!) Accordingly, what is the problem filling my stomach with liquids at the same time? Seems like the point would be so we are full of nutrient rich food and not liquid when we have a meal--but I'm only taking small bites of food. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Week 4

    Lovietobeme what website? Thanks
  25. For me, I told the people who 1) were closest to me and 2) 'needed' to know for professional reasons/were my allies at work.. Having said that, I'm not too ashamed to tell the guy at gnc or the woman at smoothie king! My advice would be the same as my advice for buffets...start small cause you can ALWAYS go back for more!
