July sleevers please check in..
penman53 replied to shannyd4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all and merry Christmas to all, My start weight was 378 my weight on the day of surgery was 341. Today it is the 27th of December I am five months out and I weigh 248. If my math is correct, I have lost a total of 130 pounds. That's 93 pounds since the day of surgery. I can't believe how good I feel and much more healthy I am. What a great way to start the new year. Mark, Edmond Oklahoma -
Could you send me the link to the pics that gamer girl gave you by chance? I would be really interested in seeing it. Thank you so much. Mark

I would never have thought that after my weight loss surgery that I would be down 93 pounds from the day of surgery on July 24, 2013. Even with stalls I have lost this much weight. Especially when this all happened while going through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I kept myself on the straight and narrow with no problems at all. I am so pumped, just went to Walmart and bought two pair of 36 32 jeans. Hard to belive considering that I was wearing 50 pants when I started and I had to lay on the bed to fasten them. Now this is not a problem and I am really needing to score some new shirts as well.

My first major weight drop
penman53 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember, even though you weight is not changing, you may be losing inches. Even when I have a stall, my waist size changed. I am five months out and I have lost 96 pounds and I swear there were at least three times when I thought boy I hope I will start losing weight. So don't worry, stick to the program and you will be just fine. Trust me. -

Stalls :(. .. Concerned,worried?
penman53 replied to meaganchuckran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 24th of July 2013. I have had at least 4 stalls since being sleeved. Now it is the 22nd of December I am almost 5 months out and I have lost almost 90 pounds. So even though there were times when I could not see a drop in weight. I would see a drop in inches. Even though the scales stayed the same I was having to buy small shirts and pants. So just stick with your meal plan, get your Protein in, drink your Water (all of it every day) and reap the benefits of the WLS. It is worth it and you will succeed. Good Luck, Mark Edmond Ok -
Not sure if i made the best decision
penman53 replied to jayakay425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All good advice take it slow and if Water is hard to get down perhaps some hot tea with honey will make you feel better. Perhaps your back pain is the gas from from the anethesia you had for your surgery. Don't worry about small steps with some people it is slower than others. You will get better and your aches and pain will subside and you will eventurally feel fantastic. Don't worry take it one day at a time and as soon as you can, start going to support group. You will be much better off by doing that also. Good luck and keep us all apprized of your progress, we all care about you. Mark, Edmond Ok -
Here we go place flatbread directly on the rack in a 350 oven for 5 minutes. In a pan, cook the ground turkey with onion, celery and a little jalapeno Make your own black bean frijoles by blasting can in your nutribullet with some onion and garlic powder, then warm in a pan with a little EVOO to prevent sticking. Once all of the incredients are warmed up, place 1/2 of the flatbread on a place and spread black Beans then layer with turkey taco meat. Top with lettuce, tomato and lots of cheese and salsa. Enjoy Sounds good doesn't it. I updated the post with the pic I took when I took it out of the oven. I topped it with black olives (my wife loves em) and lettuce and thinly sliced roma tomatos. It turned out to be a lot of food but it was really good. Don't be afraid to put on the heat and also if you make your own black beans, make sure you use just enough liquid in the food processor to make the beans smooth and then add a touch of oil to keep it from sticking when you heat the beans in the pan.

I Keep Accidentally Over-Eating!
penman53 replied to RainbowOreo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes on the smaller fork, spoon, scale all yes. But don't forget to put down the fork. I downloaded an app for my I phone call eat slow pro. It makes you wait 1 minute between bites. I started doing this and I always can tell when I get full. It was the key to my weight loss success. I will be 5 months out on the 24th of December and I have lost 86 pounds. Believe me all they said is true but try this app also. Remember to turn off the TV and sit at the table and eat also. Good Luck. -

Seems like the shrimp is a little overboard. I think that the crab alone would be wonderful. I think I have some fake crab in the freezer may want to make a few of these beauties

Cheddar Stuffed Pretzel Breaded Chicken

What about the sodium content in the pretzel breading? -
I was reading the Quinoa posts yesterday and I got my creative wheels turning. I have always liked stuffed bell peppers. So I decided to do the following: 1. Cooked some ground turkey meat, season with season salt and pepper and lots fo garlic powder. 2. Cooked 1/2 cup of Quinoa after rinsing and browning it. 3. Sauted some celery and white onion. I cooked all of these seperate and then combined it into one skillet, I then added 1.5 small cans of tomatoe sauce. After I boiled the bell peppers, I drained them and then started stuffing the peppers with the turkey/quinoa mixture. I put in some of the mixture and then put in a good size piece of american cheese. Then more cheese and then more filler. Half way during the filling, I put in some of the unused tomatoe sauce, At the end, I topped off the pepper with the remaining tomatoe sauce and put a cross of american cheese across the top. Just to make it plenty cheesy, I topped them off with a little left over mozzerella cheese. I plan on baking them at 350 until they are all warm and bubbly. I will post pics tonight after dinner is served. Mark

Well I have good news and bad news. Good news is my wife loved it, the bad news is she took a fork and tore the top open on one to see if it was done do I didn't want to take a picture of it. But I had enough filling to make a couple more and I will go and do that next week and take a picture then ok? Sorry but it was good. So quinoa is the way to go.

Extremely Discouraged.....
penman53 replied to mamoojack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out on my day of surgery at 341 pounds. My surgery was on the 24th of July 2013. I have had at least 3 stalls during this time period. I was stalled at 261 for almost three weeks and then I have lost six pounds in 5 days. So give your system a chance and do what you need to do to lose the weight sensibly. If you are not getting support at your doctors office go to someone else. But it is important that you keep yourself informed. Keep a log of what you eat, I use my fitness pal it will tell you if you have been naughty or nice. And I cannot everemphasize drinking lots and lots of water and get in your protein. Your a lady so about 50 to 60 grams a day sound about right but your nutritionist should have given you a "number". If not you can calculate it yourself by looking it up on the net. Don't get discouraged. All people lose at different rates. Good luck and keep smiling. Besides, you can't undo your sleeve, get used to it and live with it. You will be glad you did. -
Bowel Movement Post Op
penman53 replied to Choppy1383837799's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just had terrible stomach pains yesterday afternoon and again this morning after my protein shake. Turns out that I was simply constipated. After an extended time in the water closet and finally having a BM, I feel fine now. But I definitely need to start up on laxitives again. You know the small amount of solid foods that we injest simply fails to provide us with enough roughage to have regular stools in my opinion. I know that I have had very few issues since getting sleeved in July. The constipation is really the only problem I have had. -
My doctor told me that I didn't really need to use the Nascobal, a sublingual B12 would be fine for me. My 4 month bloodwork was all normal ranges and looking great.
