Well yest was my FIRST appt with the surgeon to discuss gastric sleeve surgery. I am soooo excited and a bit annoyed. I'm excited because I know I'm ready for this and annoyed because my Ins calls for 6mos documented weight loss prevention visits with weigh ins before they approve paying for the surgery. So looking to an Aug or Sept surgery date, if all goes well. Well there are a lot of tests to take prior so I'm busy making my appointments to get ready. I hope these six months go fast and I'm cleared for surgery. I have a cruise to Mexico in Dec I wanna be able to go to!! )))

Anyone Not Tell Family Or Friends?

Exactly ladies!! The surgery IS not the key to the weight loss, because you can have the surgery and if not eating right and exercising the weight will just come back!! I look at it as a jump start. I decided to do this because of my health. If I don't I don't know how long I will last. But I know that the surgery is just the start. I have to change my eating habits and make it a lifestyle!! I just hate the negative connotation that usually comes from people who haven't had to struggle to stay fit and grown upon it. I have decided to tell 3 people and that's a big maybe. I'm still torn over the decision. I too thought about being asked and feeling like I'm lying if asked what did I do to lose the weight and I reply "eat right and work out". But like you all said.....it's not a lie. Just half truth. Lol!! I just can't wait!! -

WOW a 12 month wait? Is that what your ins required. I really hope I don't have to wait that long. They (my surgeons office) told me 6 mos!! Well like you, I AM SOOOOO READY!!! I can't wait!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. Have you told anyone?!! I refuse to. Only one friend if mine, my ex husband and daughter know!! Have you don't the required tests. My endoscopy is worrying me. I see the Endoscopy Dr in April but not sure when the procedure will take place!! I'm also concerned of sagging skin but I guess that's the least of my problems considering what I'm going through being over weight. AGAIN, GOOD LUCK!!

I totally understand. I am in the same boat. For now only my ex-husband (yes we are friends lol) and my daughter know and a friend. Right now it's not something I want to discuss. I hate hearing "where is your will power", "that's being lazy" etc etc!! It's actually no ones business and its your decision whether you want to or not. GOOD LUCK IN WHATEVER DECISION YOU CHOOSE!! -
Has anyone felt embarrassed about the fact that they had this done? I feel like people will view me as a failure for not being able to lose the weight on my own, the "normal" way as opposed to the "easy" way! I honestly don't plan on saying much even tho I know the weight loss will be significant in a short amount of time. I will say I had surgery and that is what is attributed to the weight loss but do not want to confirm weight loss surgery. Anyone out there feel the same? Please don't judge me! I'm just being honest and possibly saying what many are afraid to! If so how did you deal?

Thank you all for all your thoughts! It's truly appreciated and you are ALL right!! Bottom line it's MY decision and I should never have anyone make me feel bad about it. It's all about how I feel and the approach I want to take. There's no right or wrong answer!! I'm soooo excited and eager for this new chapter and am so glad I joined this forum. It helps to talk to people who have "walked in my shoes"!! )

Also for the record, I did try the "normal" way! Gyms, diets, nutritionist, special pre packaged foods. Etc etc etc. just got tired of the up and down.

Hello everyone. I'm a 44yr old female who has decided, after much research and thought to have the gastric sleeve surgery done. I just got the ball rolling. Went to see my PCP and he referred me to a facility, which I've also researched, to have it done. So I am literally at the beginning stages. I thought I'd be nervous but I'm soooo ready for this! My only fear is my insurance company not approving it! Hoping they do and it's a speedy process!! Anyone have their insurance deny it and why? -

Thank you so much ladies!! I did call my insurance carrier and they stated they cover it. But I didn't ask what the requirements were. I will call them tomorrow to ask! I looked online and so far what the requirements are I meet them but its best to double check! I hope I don't have to do the 6mo nutrition. I don't want to prolong the surgery. I would be ready tomorrow if asked. Thanks again!!!!!!
