  1. I'd chose toradol too. Or if I didn't mind the sedative effect I'd pick Fentanyl. Fentanyl just makes pain melt away.
  2. I don't have a doctor either. I'm hoping my OB notes from pregnancies, and my foot surgery pre-op info, all from the last 6 years and all showing weights, will be sufficient. I'll find out soon. I should be submitting next week.
  3. Exercise has been a required part of my pre-op. for three months I've been dragging my behind outbid bed at 5am, at least 3 times a week to go in the elliptical machine that was previously collecting dust in my garage. So far, in about 10 weeks I've lost 27ish pounds by that plus a low cal/high protein diet. The healthier you are pre-op, the smoother things typically go post-op. and if you build a routine now it's less of a change later on.
  4. You do look amazing! Congratulations!!

    psych test

I just had to sit and listen and talk about family and diet history. She did most of the talking. I saw an arnp who had a lap band 12 years ago and she gets why we are there and rarely would not pass someone.

    Any April sleevers?

I'm hoping to be in April. I'm 38, 5ft 9 inches. I live just notth of Seattle. My high weight was 304 in November. Yesterday I was 276 (yay insurance-required diet !). I wear 1-2x shirts and yesterday wore a pair of size 20 jeans for the first time in months. I just need to do one more NUT appt next week then we'll submit to insurance!

    Easter Challenge

I'm pre-op, almost done with insurance requirements and already down 28 pounds! CW 276 3/31W - 262 14 pounds to lose. I have a week in Hawaii coming up so that's pretty optimistic but I can do it if I want

    Nut test

I just had to answer three or four pages of questions then talk about my life and family, past and present, and why I want the surgery. It was simple enough.

    The defining moment you knew

I was on a mission last year to get healthy. I had a runner-friend coming to town in June and wanted to look ok. Well, I didn't make it. I kept thinking about it a few months, then in October there were a lot of stories in the news about the benefits of wls. I never thought I'd be "one of those people", but it finally hit me. The only way to be successful was to get help. I set up a time to Go to a seminar then have pushed my way through my pre-op requirements. I have one more NUT appt then will sumbit to insurance and set a date. I'm so looking forward to being "one of them/you" soon
  11. I just had - and passed - my psych eval! Now jut one more appt with the NUT next week then it's submittal time! Now silly me I can't stop crying.

    preop psych evaluation

I'm in the office waiting for mine now. I just had to fill out 10 minutes of paperwork/questions. I wonder if that was my 576 questions!?!

    No Weight Record

How did this work out? I'm curious because I don't even have a PCP, let alone a weight history. I tid get records from my pregnancies and when I had foot surgery so have weights for 2, 4and 6 years ago. I'm hoping that's enough. I think I'll be calling Monday to see specifically what I need.

    approval letter.

I'm wondering the same. I don't have a PCP, and I don't know why insurance would want me to go spend money to see someone to write a letter. I do have chart notes from previous hospitalization showing my weight, and I'm hoping that, plus my NUT notes and surgeons notes is enough. We'll see in a few weeks.
  15. I don't have a PCP. I am going to submit without a letter, it's not required by my insurance. I have chart notes showing my weight over the last 6 years. I hope that's enough. It's all handwritten. I don't see why it would matter if a letter is written vs typed.
  16. Has anyone who has not had a primary care provider (only seeing the surgeon and following the pre-op guidelines) gotten approved? I'm almost done with the pre-op requirements but I'm wondering if I should go find a PCP who is willing to recommend surgery as well. If rather not if there's a chance I will get approved without.

    decision made

Did you NUT give you a plan? I was told to start increasing protein (20 grams per meal) and decrease carbs. I personally have started drinking protein shakes in the morning and if needed another one later in the day as a snack. I found the Premier Protein shakes at Costco are pretty good. I have all but eliminated pasta/rice/breads and get the majority of my carbs from fruits and veggies. My calories should be between 1300-1400 a day. Sometimes I can't get that high. I have been doing some sort of exercise at least three days a week for 20 minutes. I literally drag my butt out if bed at 5am to do this. The last bit of advise - track what you eat. I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks. I've gone back to tracking and the scale has finally started to move again. I use MyFitnessPal, but even a pen and paper would work.

    How to handle critics?

I might have to use that cyst excuse with my boss. We work very closely and she will be supportive but worried in the beginning. She'll find out after the fact - then she'll google it and freak out and ask me a million questions but she'll be there for me. My family will be fine with it, not that it matters by the time they find out. I'll just be ignoring the critics and happy at the changes I'm making.

    tough decision

My tipping point was watching my coworkers gain weight instead of lose with their bands. One in particular - I've lost more since November on my pre-op diet than she has in 4 years. I decided I'm not disciplined enough for the band. Seeing her workarounds I could see myself following in her footsteps. The sleeve in my mind is more restrictive and I'm sure there is some percentage of failure with it too, but from what I've seen its far more successful long term. I'm not sure I like how drastic it seems - that they remove part of the stomach, but I like even less that I am so heavy now and not really liking myself these days.
  20. Hi! I'm an ER nurse in the Seattle area. I'm finishing my pre-op stuff the end of this month and hope to get approval and have surgery early April. I'd take sooner if it works out that way. I've been debating on the band vs sleeve since I started this in November, but I think I've decided I'm going with the sleeve. So far pre-op I've lost 25 pounds I'm hoping I get back to my post-partum weight before my last nutrition appt (yes- I was one who weighed way less after giving birth than before!). I'm not telling anyone about this yet - except hubby of course. I'm pigheaded so will be back at work in a week (mostly a paperwork kind of job here), but will probably tell my boss what I'm doing before I go out in case i need longer off. She'll be supportive but worried. Nursemeg89 - we're about to start a residency for the ER if you want to move to Seattle!

    Secrets

I'm with you. The only people I have told is my husband and two close friends/pseudo mothers at work. My boss will be supportive, but she's not going to know until after or the very last minute because she'll just worry. Family will be told after the fact. It's my choice and I don't need anyone trying to convince me to not do it.

    Any seattle sleevers ?

I'm from Bothell, going to Northwest Weightloss Surgery Center in Everett. I am finishing up my pre-op appts later this month then have to wait for insurance approval. Still debating between the band and the sleeve but today I'm leaning more towards the sleeve. I've lost 20 pounds so far on my own with the help of my nutritionist and high protein diet. And my 5am workout. Now I'll only have 120 more to lose between now and well, whenever I get there
