    May Sleevers! Almost there!

I'm also May 1st!! Just one more day of pre op. I've done well with it during the week but the weekend was challenging. I didn't do horrible, but I don't think I'll make the 10 pounds in a week mark :/ But my starting weight (November 27, 2012) was 304, and this morning I was 262, so if I don't lose a total of 10 this week I don't care Good luck everyone!

    Pre Op Diet

I get three-four shakes a day and a lean cuisine-type meal, trying to keep total calorie count below 870. It's not so bad (but so glad I just have 4 more days!) Just beware: liquid in = liquid out ????
  4. I'm the 38year old version of you. I thought I would never even think of doing something so drastic. Then in October last year there was a lot of media around WLS and the benefits and I said screw it, its what i need, and I am doing it. Since then I've lost 40 pounds, found Premier Protein shakes are my friend, cut out soda and pastas/breads/rice, and am scheduled for surgery NEXT Wednesday! I don't know how much I'll lose post op, but I'm confident that I'll lose more and be healthier and more active with my family.
  5. Eliminate soda and pasta/bread/rice that will be a huge help. Increase your protein to 65+ grams of healthy protein.. Eat less calories, work out a bit. Drink lots of water.

    May 1 st sleevers!

I'm May 1 as well! I started my pre-op diet today, though I "practiced" the last couple of days at work. My diet is 3-4 shakes a day + a lean cuisine type meal, for total calories under 890. Today I had my endoscopy so I didn't eat anything until 5pm when I finally got home :/ then I had (over the next 3 hours) a shake, an Amy's frozen burrito, 6 shrimps, and later some chicken broth. I feel like I should have another shake, but my throat hurts and I'm beat so I'm just going to throw in the towel and go to bed.
  7. 1 night - in next Wednesday, out on Thursday!
  8. My surgery is May 1. I saw my surgeon yesterday for pre-op and talked to him about restrictions (activity-wise) after surgery. He said most people go back to work in 5 or so days, and I won't have any problems lifting my 2&4 year olds. They (or he anyhow) doesn't cut muscles, they push the probes through them so when they're removed the muscles heal quicker and its generally less traumatic. My husband was with me, and is worried in not taking enough time off work and how I can care for the kids, so I was happy with what the doc said.
  9. I am proud of what I've done so far. im also not offended by what he said. It just caught me iff guard. He wasn't rude saying it. He was either misinformed (he didn't have my chart with him) or joking because he'd realized I lost as much as I did. Either way, I'm headed in the right direction.
  10. So I just saw my surgeon for the last time before my scope on Wednesday and sleeve next Wednesday. After introducing himself to me and my husband, he says it appears I've gained a few pounds since I last saw him (in November!) and that I needed to lose a few before surgery next week. I acknowledged that I'd be on a pre-op diet (I've already started though I don't need to really start until Wednesday) then I had to interrupt him and tell him he was wrong, that I have lost 37 pounds since I saw him last. Looking back maybe he was joking and just trying to get a rise out of me. I'm not sure. Or he was looking at the wrong chart before he came in to our room. Either way, I'm happy at what I've done so far and look forward to cruising through my pre-op diet this week and on to the losers bench.
  11. I've lost 37 pounds (plus a few more I've put on and retaken off!) since I started my supervised diet the week after thanksgiving. I'm no longer seeing the nutritionist and have less than 2 weeks until surgery. I'll have to do one week of pre-op diet so I'm hoping between now and the knife I can make it an even 50!
  12. IVC filter? I don't know why I'd need one of those.
  13. Hooray fellow May Day sleevers! Two weeks from today! Woohoo!
  14. I'm having it in Everett, WA (just north of Seattle)!
  15. My hubby has supported every weightloss effort I've tried. When I told him I was going to a wls seminar he offered to go with me. I turned him down (someone needed to stay home with our kids). I think he's a little hesitant but fully supportive. Now that I'm three weeks away and getting more excited he is too. He'll go to my preop appt and meet the surgeon and ask all his million questions. Tonight he secured the finances to pay for the part insurance doesn't cover. And he's scheduled himself for a vasectomy so we won't have sleeve babies
  16. It sounds like maybe you were hyperventilating. Did your hands and feet start to cramp too?

    Perfect timing!

I'd save your money on the zpack. You more than likely have a virus and antibiotics will do nothing. Or maybe just allergies? There's plenty of OTC options. You can ask a pharmacist to help you pick the right one.
  18. Yay Kristy26! Finally another 5/1 sleever! I've kept it to myself until the past few days. Now my director and one other person in our office know, and I Fb messages my siblings to let them know. Everyone has been supportive except my sister inlaw has been silent. My boss and coworker want a copy of my diet so they can do it with me. I went over it with them yesterday and I don't think they'll really stick to it but the gesture is nice

    To Tell Or Not Tell

I had told my hubby, and two work friends/pseudo-mothers. Last week I told one of my sisters. Yesterday I finally told my boss and she was supportive just like I knew she'd be. I'm debating telling my other siblings. Maybe just before surgery. Other than that people will find out eventually. I no longer feel the need to keep it super secret.
  20. I have all you Mays beat - May 1!! Getting excited now.
  21. Well I did it. I told my educator today I had a secret to tell her, then told her about surgery. She is very excited for me, and being a band failure so far, she wants to do the pre and post diet with me. Then my director walked in and I just blurted out to her. Of course she was supportive, I knew she would be. We work super close and I decided last week she needs to know but every opportunity I just chickened out. But now the cat is out of the bag and it feels good

    Mom of a Toddler

I have a 2 and 4 year old. My biggest concern is my 2 y/o as she still likes to be carried and until yesterday was still in a crib and if I'm home I am her bedtime routine. I converted her crib yo a day bed last night and we're practicing her crawling down off my lap and in to bed. I think if I show her me "owies" she'll understand I can't carry her. Time will tell. 3 weeks and 2 days until I cross over to the other side!

    Insurance issues

I don't have a primary care doc. I haven't seen my OB for 2+ years after my second baby (I know, shame on me!), but I sent insurance my hospital notes from baby 1 (2008) and baby 2 (2010) and foot surgery (2006), each showing my weight, along with a list of all the diets and crap i have tried over the years, and that was good enough for them.
  24. I'm not sure which weight they used to approve me. I started at 44, dropped to barely 40 at the end of my three month nutrition plan. No comorbidities (documented, anyhow)

    Protein Shakes

Premier protein shakes aren't bad (from Costco) The chocolate ones mostly taste like chocolate milk. Vanilla are meh...they have strawberry available online but I'm afraid to spend any money on them for fear they're nasty.
