    Onederland!

It has been a while since I posted anything. I guess that is because there hasn't been too much to report. I just looked at my last post, and it was May 31, and I weighed 214. As of this morning, I weigh 199! I haven't been under 200 in at least 15 years. I'm only 9 lbs away from my doctor's goal of 190, and 19 lbs away from my goal of 180. I've lost a total of 75 lbs now. I thought I was losing quickly, but now that I think about it, 15 lbs in a month and a half isn't that quick. I want to be at or below my doctor's goal by my 6 month follow up. Guess I need to step it up!
  3. So sorry you are going through this. My wife and I were both sleeved, so we are in the same boat.

    Hate protein drinks

I didn't like any of the ones I liked before surgery, especially the powders (chocolate, strawberry or vanilla). I moved to the Isopure bottles for a while. They didn't taste the best, but they were water-based and not milk, and had fruity juice flavors, and I liked them much more than the shakes. Now, after seeing them recommended by a lot of people, I have switched to the Syntrax Nectar proteins. They are my current favorite.
  5. 2 lbs to Onederland!

  6. I'm 4 months out, and have had 4 2-week stalls in that time, including one around the 2-3 week mark. I'm still down 71 lbs in 4 months despite those stalls. Once they broke, the weight started flying off, then would slow down, then another stall. You can't expect it to happen in a straight line. I didn't do anything to break the stalls, they broke on their own.

    Calories

At 4 months out, I average between 800 and 1,000. Sometimes less than 800, and almost never over 1,000.
  8. I had a fairly large hiatal hernia, and they fixed it during the sleeve surgery. I've never heard of anyone being told they couldn't get the sleeve because of a hernia.
  9. Down 70 lbs as of this morning!

    New To The Site

Welcome to the site! Sorry about your nightmare with the lap band. So glad I did my research and decided to go for the sleeve instead of the band, which is what I was originally scheduled for.

    3 month stall?!?

I'm at 3 months also, and have been stalled for a week now. I had a 2 week stall a few weeks ago also. They happen, it will end. After my 2 week stall, I started losing almost a lb. a day for almost 2 weeks.

    Eggs

I never had any issues with eggs (thank God, because we have chickens, and it would have killed me if I couldn't eat eggs!). The only foods I had an issue with when I first tried them were tuna fish and tilapia. Not sure if they were too dry, or if I ate too fast or what. But now, at 3 months out, I can eat pretty much anything I want. But that's the thing - I don't WANT to eat anything anymore.

    Who has actually reached goal?

I was sleeved on March 8, 2013, just over 3 months ago. I am at 74% right now. I wasn't a high BMI'er to begin with, my BMI was 36. I started at 274, and am now 212. My doctor's goal is 190. That still puts me 1 lb. above the normal range on the BMI chart. I'd like to lose maybe 5-10 lbs more than that. I've been 190 before, like 15-20 years ago, and was very happy being that weight. All of my health problems were weight related. I've gotten off the BP medication within 3 months. I won't know for another couple of months whether I can stop using my CPAP machine for sleep, because insurance won't cover another sleep study until then.

    Affordable Health Care Act…anyone?

I don't know for sure, but since it is just going to be like Medicare for everyone, then I would assume very little would be covered. Even the author of the Affordable Care Act is now saying that it is a train wreck.
  16. This is a tough one. My wife worried about this a lot. We have personally seen weight loss surgery destroy relationships of people we knew. Mostly because one person had newfound confidence, and ended up going out with friends a lot more, which led to adulterous situations. My wife and I were both sleeved, exactly 6 weeks apart (me - 03/08/13, her - 04/19/13). Our relationship is solid, but it hasn't been an intimate relationship for some time, for whatever reasons (3 kids and being too tired all the time being a major one). I am hoping that we can somehow get our 'groove' back, and improve that aspect of our relationship. The desire is there, at least on my end, and I believe on hers, but it just isn't as easy as it should be. Things have been the way they are for a while now, and it is hard to just flip a switch and change them. I don't even know how to initiate things anymore. I'm keeping my hopes up, and we'll see how it goes.
  17. I worry about this constantly. I am 3 months out now, and it takes work for me to get to 800 calories a day. I'd like to be able to eat more, but just can't.
  18. Wow, I was doing a search on the maintenance phase, and what to expect, and came across this thread. I've lost weight rather quickly. I started with only about 85-90 lbs to lose, and have lost 62 in 3 months. I'm barely eating any food. I struggle most days to get to 800 calories, unless I have a snack of some cashews or something. I was concerned with how I was going to stop the weight loss and avoid from becoming TOO skinny. I wasn't expecting to come across this issue. I don't see how I would ever be able to gain it back. I don't enjoy eating anymore. It is easier for me to eat the right things now, since eating is no longer enjoyable it is easier for me to concentrate on eating the 'right' things. Maybe this will all change in the future, and I will better be able to understand this post. I think my wife may have issues down the road. She was sleeved 6 weeks after me, about a month and a half ago. She is down about 30 lbs now. But she is constantly talking about what she'd like to eat or wishes she could eat. She will have a small bit of ice cream occasionally. I don't even like the taste of ice cream, or really any sweets, anymore. I think she has a lot more issues of head hunger than I do. So she may have a harder time in the long term than I do.

    A day to celebrate!

I am celebrating 2 things today. First, I weighed in this morning and am now down 60 lbs! I weighed 214, down from 274. In not even 3 months! I can't believe it. Second, my doctor took me off of my blood pressure medication yesterday! This is huge! He had cut my dose in half a few weeks ago, and this visit was a follow-up to see how I was doing on the half dose. They took my blood pressure when I first got in, and it was 120/70. He was happy with that and was willing to keep me going on the half dose for now, until I mentioned that I've been getting light-headed when playing the trumpet while standing up. He had me stand up to take my blood pressure, and it was 108/70. So he told me to go ahead and stop taking it. He wants to see me again in another 3 weeks to see how I'm doing off of it.

    Couples getting VSG?

Hi there, my wife and I were both sleeved, exactly 6 weeks apart. We wanted to do it closer, but she had problems getting off from work, so had to do it later. We submitted to insurance at the same time, and had no issues, were approved very quickly. I was sleeved on March 8, and am now down 60 lbs. I only had 84 to lose, so now only have about 25 more to get to goal. I was taken off my blood pressure medication yesterday (yay!). My wife was sleeved April 19, and is down 27 lbs now, I believe. She also had about 80 to lose.

    My daughter and I

Wow Bea, you look like you could be sisters now!
  23. 55 lbs, oh yeah! Only 29 to go to my goal! Seems so obtainable now.

    50 lbs!

I've finally broken my stall after almost 2 weeks, and have lost a lb. a day for the past 3 days! I knew it had to end eventually, and tried not to stress about it, but it was hard! I'm now 224, 50 lbs from my top weight of 274. So excited!
