Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

My surgery was Nov 29 and I am down to 157 from 212 pre prep and lost 12 on the prep diet. I am down to a 6 or 8 and feel amazing. I have been careful not to beat myself up about the weight loss and think it will just happen. To the person who wants a snickers just eat one then! You probably aren't eating enough calories right now. If you are net below 800 in a day your body won't lose weight. Jennifer

I have some hair loss too. I have been using this on my roots to cover it up: bumble and bumble blondish hair powder. A spritz where it looks thin beefs it up. Hopefully it doesn't last long!

A higher calorie day is good every couple weeks so long as you are eating quality food. BBQ chicken any good lean meat that is tasty.

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

My doc says we have to make sure that it's Calcium Citrate. I agree that those chewables are nasty and am actively looking for an alternative. Jennifer

    2 months & 51 pounds

Goodness: I guess i have been very lucky. If I have my Protein first, I am not very hungry at all really. I tend to eat every 3 hours or so but really can't have more than a Protein Shake (Costco ready made) or one egg and a bit of sausage or bacon or some fish and then I might be able to eat something else. I have not been hungry or even close to starving. I have been dizzy and weak and then clued in and had something to eat. My doctor hammered in the "protein first" plus i know from my years of dieting that protein works and carbs make me fat and hungry. Jennifer

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

Hi: I am new to the form. I was sleeved by Dr. Landerholm on November 29th and am now down 35 pounds including my 12 pound loss pre-op. I am so thrilled with the weight loss and the restriction of the sleeve. I am able to eat the things I like but totally unable to overeat anything. This is great as we all have waves of wanting to be totally good about eating right and exercising and waves of not really being able to do it effectively. I have been on every commercial weight loss plan and also have ran a half marathon etc but haven't been able to manage my stress level and not overeat. This is a real miracle for me. Looking forward to hearing more from the November crowd. I am from Vancouver Canada and self pay in Washington State. Canada does pay for the VSG but you have to be at least 100 pounds overweight and I was not that heavy. Jennifer

    Sleeve holds too much food

Hi: Where is your protein? These carbs are making you hungry. This is going to be the case for anyone even with the sleeve. Have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, you need to get at least 60 grams of protein in and probably more depending on your current size. Once you start eating solids you will feel the restriction. Try to stop worrying about losing weight and just trust that this operation is the best thing that you've done for your heath and it will work just as you wanted it to. Jennifer

    BC Sleevers

Hi: I was sleeved in Edmonds Washington on November 30, 2012 and have lost 35 pounds including the 12 I lost pre-op. I didn't want to wait and maybe get denied for coverage by BC Med or have my own doctor tell me (again) that I could lose the weight by myself. As we all know losing the weight is not the problem, it is keeping it off. I am so stoked about this journey and am thinner now than I have been in years. The weight isn't flying off but the scale is consistently going in the right direction. For the first time in knowable history I am not actively on a diet or off a diet I am just eating until I feel restriction and then stopping. I have had some difficulty knowing which bite is the last one and have had hiccups and cramps a few times. Besides learning my new anatomy I am so thrilled with this journey! For anyone that has the resources and can consider having surgery in Washington State I highly recommend Puget Sound Bariatric and Dr. Landerholm. My experience with them has been first class the whole way. I have virtually no scars and my recovery was super fast. Jennifer

    Compression Garments

More like a band around your waist supporting your belly and causing you to retain some heat there. I have seen curves brand ones in Avon catalog.

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Isn't it so magical? I had my op on 11/29 and am down 35 pounds including 12 pre op. I feel like myself again. I have had some difficulty learning my new anatomy and what I am able to eat. To slow in between bites etc and wait wait to see if that was the last bite. But other than the learning curve it has been down down down every week! So thrilled!
