Science of why and how the pouch / sleeve works
Arts137 replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't worry yet! I do not believe the "weight loss curve" is mandatory... Just read, and research. I find that I will need to have a long term focus on: Protein Hydration and a forever avoidance of sugars, processed carbs and if so, I'll be OK. My favorite quote from the article is: If adequate satiety is achieved, our patients are successful. . . And they fail if that satiety is not achieved. -
Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?

Hey Butter, This ornament might turn out to be your historic favorite and bring good laughs every year. I put up my wife's "First year of marriage bliss" ornament for her 'long gone' FIRST marriage every year. She finds it, gives me S*** and we laugh every year. -

Can't you ground him or put him on time out? When he does visit do you at least get frequent flyer miles? LOL Well, he is usually under control. Unless I eat sugar or simple carbs. If I do, Skippy is whispering incessently for days and days! -

Skippy is a complete pain in the butt. Don't give him an inch... he wants a mile. -
Remember, not all are so carb insensitive. Just research and "practice". I found this book to be helpful, and from a food standpoint I do much better on a VERY low carb diet. I try to avoid ALL, and that get's be between 20 and 50gm on most days. BUT I am NOIT saying this is a good approach for you! For me sugar and simple carbs make be sooooo hungry... Addictively so. The book: http://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Get-Fat-About/dp/0307474259/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1388311057&sr=1-3&keywords=good+fat+bad+fat

Hang in there little friend. Keep 'doing good" and you'll do good!!! I know how frustrating these long stalls are, but the good habits will work in the end. And it ain't the end yet.

Nothing, hang in there. This was also me... I grabbed and went... my problem is that most of the grab and go stuff is crap. I wish I had a magic wand for you, but I don't. Work stress definately played a part with my obesity. Thankfully I am well past the parenting stage! Bottom line, I am retireing. AND one of the key reasons is that work was killing me. I know that does not work for you, but felt the need to share. I am also a food (sugar/carb) addict. I personally can't have ANY or I suffer from food desires for DAYS. -

learn all you can about the process, the preps and your plan. Commit now to succeed at all the preps required... stop smoking, reduce/eliminate caffine, reduce/eliminate carbonated drinks, record food intake and activity... Have you figured out your particular "poisons"? Mine are sugars and simple/processed carbs - I just have to avoid them! And lastly: "You've been unable to lose weight before, Are you really going to succeed this time?" That's your fat brain talking. You'll likely be fighting with your fat brain a lot in the years ahead. My fat brain is named Skippy and he is a continual pain in my butt. -
Partnership HEALTH PLAN Insurance
Arts137 replied to Tropical.Lover's topic in Insurance & Financing
Looks as if this is an unfamiliar one. I found their webpage, but could not find any info on bariatric surgery: http://www.partnershiphp.org/ -
For some coffee can stimulate the appetite, but not me. My program does not like coffee because caffine is a stomach irritant. I cut down to all decaf before surgery - SLOWLY. Caffine detox is headachey! But in all honesty, I started coffee again and it's the one thing that I do that does not follow on my program. NOT suggesting that anyone else break their program, just being honest here. Coffee is the only drug I got left.

Is this kind of pain/pressure normal?
Arts137 replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Comfy, A number of folks HAVE described this. I did not have it (lucky me) but as I recall it does get better as you go through the acute healing. BUT, don't be shy and call the surgeon's office if it does not quickly show some improvement OR if you cannot get your liquids in... OK??? -

1. We are SUCH weird creatures. 2. food, especially chips and Cookies and Coke is SUCH an fun way to deal with boredom, sez my fat brain, Skippy. 3. And food is how we should Celebrate our great successes, Skippy again. 4. We are Sysiphus... condemned to an eternity at hard labor. And frustrating labor at that. For his assignment was to roll a great boulder to the top of a hill. Only every time Sisyphus, by the greatest of exertion and toil, attained the summit, the darn thing rolled back down again. Every day. 5. Let's go get some water! -

I agree with the "no guilt" approach. Just think and plan (well, I gotta, cause "Skippy" would suggest strange and continuous eating). And the longer I can avoid sugars and processed carbs, the less I want them... -
Pre op diet over the holidays
Arts137 replied to shungsleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great news!!!!! -
We cooked for 20, all the traditional "mustives". I did OK (I do OK if I don't start). Had eggs and sausage at B'fast. And for the dinner had ham , turkey and a chickpea and lentil dish. I went to bed before the Desserts came out. I was not perfect, by far... over the afternoon had wine, and it hit me HARD... Don't drink often, now, but this one blitzed me. One more learning experience.

Discovering this real and painful addiction lives actively within me has been difficult. But Oh Well, these are the cards I am dealt, so deal with them I shall! -
There are a BUNCH of paths that might work. Just build one and keep checking to see how you do. I need to avoid sugars and starches and processed carbs... I found out the hard way...

You are absolutely right, I am only two months out and maybe I will be able to eat more later. But, for now. 2-3 bites is enough for me. But, you won't make me feel guilty for having a cookie, especially here at Christmas. YOU are one of those people that won't to talk down to people who slip. I refuse to do that. I'm human. I slipped. Glad you have not. PJ, having a bad day? It's OK; you can have your own opinions and follow your own path. But play nice. It's also OK for folks to disagree with you. And who has talked down to you? Geepers! -
