What's the pain like?
Arts137 replied to Melissa1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll get very different answers. IF I had "pain" in the hospital, it was certainly controlled by Good Drugs. When home, I had some discomfort, but was able to stop all pain Rx by the 3rd day home. All in all not bad. -
with every lost pound, less pain, less HBP, less chance for DM, less SOB going up stairs. In my case, yep, I feel better...

Conquering my fear of the gastroenterologist little TMI
Arts137 replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as 2x4 says, most cases of blood are simple, but some are 'kinda' big and Cancer is WAY big. The process is easy, but the prep is rough (you get to empty out the GI tract by going to the bathroom a LOT). Nevertheless, it's a Good test to have... -
Well, I adviseall not to ask about pregnancy unless you actually SEE the baby's crown... But that's ANOTHER story. I know this is upsetting, but you are on the right path and you know it. Try not to let ignoramuses get into your head... all that does is make you want an Oreo! Best of luck!

Can hiatal hernia prevent me from being sleeved

As said above, they'll fix it while you get the sleeve... quick and easy! -
Anesthesia for the 1st Time

It's like some saying, OK, and you ready, you saying sure, and then you wake up in the recovery room. Think of it as a dreamless sleep. It's FINE!!! -
But it sounds as if you are facing it, and you will "win" if you keep facing your brain. Forget the scale, it WILL work, we ALL have slow times / stalls. Don't give up! And 3 oz of chicken isn't bad... how much pizza could you eat in the "old days"...

Sleeved 2 1/2 weeks ago.... STALL!
Arts137 replied to ake's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, you are impatient and overreacting! :-) You are in this for life, stick with the plan. You'll do wonderfully well! -
I use Unjury products (Google the name). Their vitamins are specially formulated for bariatric surgery patients. Note that PROTEIN, not vitamins is the key to forstall or stop hair loss!

Scales are generally untrustworthy, and anyway, they mess with our minds. I try to weigh only once a week and I assume that it'll be off by a wide margin... Just as long as the 'general' slope is down I am OK, I reckon...

Best Post-Surgery Habit

PAYING ATTENTION to what I eat and drink rather than mindless grazing. -
Try everything, twice!... now that's a goal worth having...

The brain is a tricky organ and if not careful can overcome any hormones or stretchy stomach!

I hope I can stay away from hot dogs, in general. I think I will with between 6 to 8 oz of food. (at a month out)

A "leak" would be marked by unrelenting discomfort/pain, followed by a fever!

Teppers, Tylenol is AOK!

We are all so different! Cold water is fine for me...

Well done and I am glad that you did NOT give up. Now the real fun begins!

Pre Operative Imaging
Arts137 replied to Sharon Lane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a doctor, but I've done a lot of research: Pre Consults may include: 1. A). Cardiac consult that included resting and stress ECG. If needed, an echocardiogram. . Pulmonary consult that included pulmonary function test, sleep study (for sleep apnea) and a methacholine stress test to R/O asthma. C). Gastroenterologist Consult, primarily via endoscopy D). Many lab tests over time that included metabolic panels, and a focus on lipids, liver function, and indications of diabetes E). Psychologist review to guage whether you will be able to understand and follow your new life requirements F). Endrochrinologist review of all of the above for 'final clearance'. Expect additional consults and reviews if you have any particular related medical conditions, like diabetes. 2. The staples remain forever. You can watch the procedure on YouTube, it's pretty cool. There is a way cool tool that does the job. Visualize a pair of scissors with a triple line of stable to BOTH the left and right of the cutter. As the surgeon dissects the stomach, the staples seal off both the (bye bye) stomach and the remaining pouch. SO, no contamination from the gut into the abdominal cavity. After the stomach is removed they may oversew the pouch or use a fibrin glue to seal the pouch 3. The highest risks are over by the time you leave the hospital. The key issue to to avoid leaks. In terms of the long term, remember that the vast majority of your stomach is gone and can never be put back, so there might be a real problem if you were to get stomach cancer at some time in the future. But generally, if you follow the plan and don't "push" the sleeve, I do not know of long term complications from the surgery after the healing period, say 6 weeks or so. Hope this helps, friend. -
Sorry about this pothole. Despite it you are doing the right things to address it, and with luck all (especially the diabetes issues) will resolve. Hang in there!!!

Ain't our heads funny??? Think we all go through this strange reaction! I mean "I am the FAT man!"
