how long does it take to get everything done and approved for the Gastric sleeve
Arts137 replied to mommyof6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
took me 6 months. It's different for us all, but when you are done, the time will have seemed to fly by. -
How much should I be "drinking" post op liquid stage
Arts137 replied to Elliejmiller's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Make sure the Protein shakes are at least 20/30 gm of protein per serving and LOW in sugars. THEN you can easily figure out how many shakes to use. If your goal is 8o gm a day, and the serving is 20... then 4. You ncan have as much broth as you can get in. Remember to get in a LOT of liquids... non-carbonated ones... -
4 weeks to go, what shoukd i be doing?
Arts137 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A Better answer! And you WILL survive the pre-op diet. We all did. Just focus a day (or an hour (or a minute)) at a time. It'll be hard for 3/4 days and then get easier (no, I did not say easy). But if weight loss was easy, we would not need the sleeve... -
nope, no ticker... don't much care. Only 2 weeks out but I'm just doing the eating and activity stuff and the fat can take care of itself. Due to a (very) bum knee I can't be as active as I'd like so my loss varies from 1 to 3 # a week... but it all ads up. Do I have a goal? Well, yes, to have a BMI in the normal range. And to keep it there. We'll see. As for goal gifts, all I know is it won't be a hot fudge sundae. And Laura, I'd follow you anywhere, hang tough girlie, and be nice to yourself. Remember, as Elvis Costello teaches us, "I used to be disgusted, now I'm just amused."

Well, if not struggle, at least mindful. We need to Think about food and activity, where some don't have to. But then, who said life is fair?

Really random question
Arts137 replied to flyme_places's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Symptoms of stomach leak include: rapid heart rate, dizziness, shortness of breath, fever, worsening abdominal pain, left chest or shoulder pain, abdominal distention, the appearance of illness and a general feeling that something is very wrong. Unfortunately, many of the symptoms may be absent or could be from something else (e.g. bleeding). Diagnosing a leak is further complicated by the fact that there is no single, reliable test to definitely diagnose a leak. The diagnosis of a leak must be clinical, that is, the surgeon must consider all symptoms in relation to the timing after surgery. The diagnosis can never be 100% sure before treatment. 'Tis rare, about 1 in 100, and the "leak test" while in the hospital will help rule a leak out. -

Arts137 replied to scarbedazzles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

The worst best night of my life
Arts137 replied to determined1103's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
OK, so take your life back. It seems as if you are doing so, but it takes more'n a half hour. So you are fat? Stay on your program and you won't be, but remember the sleeve can't fix other things and we ALL have 'other things' (often in our heads). Go put some music on and crank it up, and PS, you look cute now so imagine what you'll look like in 6 months... -
Going On Vacation Please Help!
Arts137 replied to MrsRaychJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, at 3 months out folks WILL notice the weight loss and that you are eating and drinking "differently". Unsure how you can keep the secret much longer. At 3 months out, assuming all goes well, and it should, you can eat soft foods easily. Yes to H2O and protein suppliments, depends on your program whether you should drink any alcohol, and when you eat, try to eat what you've already tried to avoid any 'surprised' (at either end). -
one week post op & feeling hopeless
Arts137 replied to miss_lalaaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeppers, liquids first and protein next. Unjury is another option @ 20 gm protein.
