    No soda? Need suggestions...

just cut down... a little more and more each day. Some say try to substitute water, not other "sweet" options to get your tastebuds reprogrammed. I do find that I drink a lot more water, and don't mind it a bit!

Unbelievable charge for VSG to my insurance

... proof that our insurance 'system' is very broken...
  3. I still use protein shakes for first thing in the morning...

    Pre-op diet and diabetes

With something as serious as Diabetes, I would ask your doc those questions. We're all just sharing our own personal experiences. Good luck to you! Yeppers!!! Some say that DM is 'addressed' before you are out of surgery...
  5. When I see my NUT I let her review my food diary. I track liquids, protein and "about" calories. I also live a fairly boring food life since I can't trust myself to get overly creative without peril (just me)... And no judging, weigh as much as you want, just don't let that darned box make you feel bad. At most it's just an average...

What Role does the scale play in your life?

Let's try this... Map the seashore. From 10,000 feel, it's a nice smooth line, isn't it? From 500 feet it's a bit blurry. Can you map the coastline from 20 feet??? No, things are a jumbe with the high and low tides and the waves. Same with the scale. If you want to weigh, why not every 10 minutes? Why not every hour???Daily changes don't tell you anything, IMHO. Water, hormones, bowel movements all "modify" weight. And I just discovered that when the batteries are getting low, the scale loses its OWN mind! I weigh (begrudgingly) every week in order to track. I generally lose from 1 to 3 pounds in a week, and about 10 a month. Slow but steady, especially since my knee limits a lot of activity right now. Bottom line, your head is hooked on the scale, and it might (worst case scenerio) try to convince you that you've failed and you might as well give up. Well blow that for a lark!
  7. KEEP IT SIMPLE right after surgery. Focus on liquids and then Proteins. Ignore anything else for a couple months. And do what your program says as best you can!
  8. I eat the evening meal at 6:00 and eat or drink NOTHING after. If hunger is bad, bad BAD, I just go to bed. Won't let the head win this battle...
  9. The surgery removed 80 to 85% of your stomach. It did NOT change anything in your head. There are folks (and they are not on this board, sadly), that gain all the lost weight back AFTER the sleeve. HOW??? You can defeat the sleeve. You seem to recognize the issue, so you are ahead of the game. As Laura says, "keep your head in the game" and while you WILL think about "binging", and having "just a little of this", you don't have to do it!!!

    New Ghrelin Research

THANKS, this is Very Helpful information. Yes, it's not simple. I find (but by definition this is anecdotal only) that I am hungry at the same times each day, AND that if I have a "treat" on dayt one I'll want that treat for the next 3/4 days at the same time. Lastly, while I say "hungry", I really don't know what that is since I spent most of my adult life eating without ANY relationship to hunger...
  11. Fair?? FAIR??? Life is unfair. But your body knows what it's doing. Work your head for a lifelong change... all will work out right. or, "All will work out in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end"!!!
  12. And you will get home. Sure you might be crazy, we all are a little, but the odds that you will make it home after surgery are Very Very VERY good.
  13. I use Unjury and you can get samles from them...

    Having a Hard Time

Speak yo the program coordinator and try other 'protein shakes' or meal replacements. Some folks are bothered by one and yet do OK with another!

    Tomorrow

Hey! You are worth loving with or without the sleeve!
  16. I have simple needs... I'd like to cross my legs.
  17. AND for you scale 'believers' out there... IF your scale uses batteries, the scales suck the juice, so change the batteries!
  18. You are doing fine. Stay away from the scales for a while. Everyone stalls. Women with Water weight / cycle issues have it harder. Remember, you were not in a rush to gain weight, right? You'll lose as fast as you can, and your stomach will NOT grow back. Just press on!
  19. I have NOT had this experience, and you have done the RIGHT thing by reaching out to your MD!

    Started pre-op now cant sleep?

Possibly your (previous) high carb diet helped to sedate you. But this too shall pass! Enjoy the pre-op, and it gets better after 3/4 days...

    Returning to old habits

You are facing the hardest part of this process... the mind. Hope you can get your head under control... but you (we) have a continuing battle!!!
  23. fagedaboudit. You are doing really well... stay away from the scale for a week. Might help your head!
