Guess what? Shingles and surgery don't mix
Arts137 commented on Sdboscola's blog entry in Sdboscola's Blog
YES you can get shingles more than once! And Shinglesa are NO FUN!. Get the vaccination when you can. -
It's spooky, but the odds are greatly in your favor!!! You will be fine! Keep the faith.

And here's a thiought. At least in my case I am not sure I ever knew what hunger was (before). I just ate all the time. What works for me is to eat on a schedule and drink lots of water...

What's the most likely way to be and stay successful? While some may argue for eating/drinking what you want, I doubt that that is the way to bet... but heck, good luck to us all!

Quitting Caffeine ZZZZzzzzzzz!
Arts137 replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good work, and these changes are HARD. Ummm, don't put off cutting off cigs... Many (most) check for nicotine in the blood and do NOT do the surgery if positive (and it's positive if you've been smoking in the last month.) -
The Problem with a Weight Loss Stall
Arts137 commented on gamergirl's blog entry in Gamergirl's Blog
Nicely said. From a recent post: "My surgeon was complimentary on my current success and implored me to not become a slave to the scale and to not let a number put me on an emotional roller coaster. He reminded me that should I follow the guidelines that there is no way I will fail at meeting my weight loss goals. " One smart Doctor!!! -
My surgeon implored me to not become a slave to the scale and to not let a number put me on an emotional roller coaster. He reminded me that should I follow the guidelines that there is no way I will fail at meeting my weight loss goals. Man, I LIKE your surgeon!!!!

usually the first study "finds" apnea and the second sets you up with the right CPAP levels. THANKFULLY I was able to do both in one visit. PS, I love my CPAP machine. Sleep GOOD, I do!

Post op 25 days having trouble with food
Arts137 replied to lissette86's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You are doing NOTHING wrong. Keep trying soft (verrrry soft) food. When you find one STAY WITH IT for a few days before you add something new. My starter foods were (1) cottage cheese with unflavored protein powder and (2) chicken in a can -- VERY soft. Eat a little, stop, push NOTHING yet. Go Slow!!! If needed, take a step back and redo liquids for a day or three... -

Excellent post, one that deals with the Biggest Issue of all... the things in our heads and minds and hearts that let us get fat, stay fat, and might want us to be fat again. And contraywise, the things in our heads that Are NOT 'fixed' just by losing weight. Worth a close read by all. THANKS! -

Ms. Skinniness is Spot On! BACK TO BASICS... the first few days of carb detox may be hard, but will be well worth it. GLAD you stayed here, I worry about those that drop out... We are with you!!! -

Discuraged & Depressed!
Arts137 replied to amsenegal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The MD is not supportive, irregardless of his surgical skill. Your weight loss is GREAT, and you need to focus on Protein and liquid till you can get all of them in. 20# in a Month is Amazing. And stalls ain't no big thing over the long haul. Talk to your NUT rather than this guy, sheese... -
Keep it up as you detox... the first few days are the hardest. Have a plan, stick with the plan, record all food and liquid, and drink Water. It will get better...
-
Yes, very normal. Your "head" would love for you to give up and keep doing ALL the things that got you fat and keeps you fat! The sleeve helps, but we all must face our personal food and fat demons!
-
Yep, I am 3 months out and fatigue and naps took longer than I'd thought. But it does get better (and I still like naps!)

I want some damn coffee!

so have coffee... -
Part of our journey IS developing a different relationship with food. Remember that the sleeve is not magical -- you can "beat the sleeve" and regain any lost weight, so...

Some programs give a time (mine said 30 days), but most are less. The consensus here is be gentle and have fun.
-
Yeah, having these strange self views are common. I've lost 90 pounds and I look the same (to me). Strange. You can set and meet your own goals. Of course watch ourt for eating disorders... you don't want that!
-
Check with your surgical team. The sleeve CAN be followed by bypass. But the bypass Cannot be followed by the sleeve. You say "My only reasoning behind that is for faster, guaranteed weight loss..." Nothing is guaranteed. Follow the program and you will lose weight as fast as your body can. But maybe that won't be as fast as you want to lose...
