Did your tastes change after surgery?
Arts137 replied to tigermom12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. No change. I just keep very controlled in terms of intake... liquid, protein, veggies. I can't trust my head with simple carbs... ONE is both not quite enough and far too much as well... -
Does anyone feel like this is just TOO good?
Arts137 replied to Mrs.RRn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sure it makes sense! Congratulations. REMEMBER, 'Them that's done well need to support them that's having difficulty'. That's how we pay it forward!!! -
No, not on my plan... BUT SOON you can puree them, so it's something to look forward to!

I woke up tired. Walked within a couple hours. Had no pain, just discomfort that the hospital drugs took care of. no nausea. Took me a while to pee, but no real issues. Sure I'd do it again. Remember it's ONLY a help. YOU still have to change your relationship to food.

If you are "full liquids" you can have anything that goes through a straw (but DON'T use a straw)

Liver problems after WLS
Arts137 replied to LIN140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There might be a transient spike in liver enzymes post surgery but they (by definition) go away. Serum Bilirubin elevation, however, certainly could be from the 'ol gall bladder. Also, it could be some liver issue unrelated to the sleeve... PS, generally liver problems improve after surgery. -
Set the goal you want. As you get close, you'll find the balance between food and activity and through them, a good weight. Then adjust your goal.. Weight is not first. A new relationship with food and activity is first. (IMHO)

I really need some support :(
Arts137 replied to a_jap21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Post surgery here is the general order... (1) water/hydration, (2) pain and nausea control, (3) after a week or two, getting Protein in. And if in doubt, CALL THE MD, that's why you paid him/her a BUNCH of money. But DO think and work hard to cut down on carbonation and sugars. -
Great post. Angela, at 4 weeks, 4 months or 4 years we all have struggles. In terms of food and weight, the sleeve helps, but it's not a cure-all. And those facing other difficulties in life humble me. In any case the sleeve and weight loss, weight maintainence, and weight control are neither automatic nor easy... but worth the psychic effort!

Bladder Question from Doc?
Arts137 replied to PrettyLilButterfly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Drinking as much as we do, we will ALL be pee-ing a LOT!!! Shoot, I am drinking 100 oz a day. It's gotta go somewhere! -
This is hard. Was it fear of surgery or fear of weight loss (and food-love loss) that made this decision? Keep talking to us. We'll help if we can.

will my brain catch up to my weight loss?
Arts137 replied to diana89131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do the same. I've lost 90, but I look "the same" in my head. Aren't heads funny? -
21/2 weeks out and vomiting
Arts137 replied to Kathy8429's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your MD. Can you get and keep liquids down? (this in important to avoid dehydration) -
Surgery in less than 2 days. I need a pep talk
Arts137 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
remember, most of us commenting have done this and came out alright! I bet you will as well... -
read ALL the nutrition info on the side. This is likely something to have rarely...

There are some great threads about this, little one. Fixing our stomachs the surgeon can do. But we deal with our heads... Snoop around. And if I was your Pop (since I am old enough FOR SURE) I'd say... "darling, way will open, usually when you least expect it. Focus on yourself and boys will take care of themselves. Focus on boys, and you might never address your own issues!"
-
Yep, everyone does it differently. Some use drains as 'insurance', an early warning for a leak, but the fluids lost are minimal and are reabsorbed by the body if no drain is used. Some use the leak test (again just to be sure) but some don't figuring that the symptoms from a leak themselves make the leak obvious. ONE GOOD THING... the surgeons are different and we all are different too. We are with you, but your journey WILL be yours!!! Best,

SLEEP STUDY HOW LONG
Arts137 replied to pjackson0523's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Head's Up! This is ANOTHER thing to focus on. It WILL make sleeping "different" until to adjust to it. BUT WHEN YOU DO, it will make a world of POSITIVE difference to the quality of your sleep (and the happiness of your partner). After 6 months I usually wake up wondering why I took the mask off -- and I haven't... it's still comfortably on my face! -
GREAT attitude!

Slider food is stuff that is calorie rich and does not fill you up... chips, Cookies, donuts. They can "defeat the sleeve"

Anyone else feel like they have to be a Spokesperson?
Arts137 replied to CharmingTortoise's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope. Many paths can lead to success. And, till my fat self was ready, I would not have listened. -
Bladder Question from Doc?
Arts137 replied to PrettyLilButterfly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep... standard. Also frequency (every couple hours). And clarity (should be clear or nearly clear). -
I have not heard of this --- to this extend and at this level --- before. PLEASE keep us posted as you continue to investigate what this is!!!

Can u take to much protein
Arts137 replied to georgia72886's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Unless you have kidney disease, or some other sort of metabolic problem, no, not too much.
