PLEASE HELP! Serious Advice Needed!
Arts137 replied to k95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you "fill up" with Protein and veggies, they stay in the stomach longer and cause the "satiety response"... which makes you feel full and satisfied: Satiation is your immediate reaction to the ingestion of food—the drive that causes you to stop eating. It is your body’s attempt to estimate future satiety via sensory input: smell, taste, texture, and stomach distention. I’ve quoted this passage before, but I’ll quote it again, because it’s important: Nutrition Bulletin Volume 34, Issue 2, pages 126–173, June 2009 Satiation, satiety and their effects on eating behaviour B. Benelam Signals about the ingestion of energy feed into specific areas of the brain that are involved in the regulation of energy intake, in response to the sensory and cognitive perceptions of the food or drink consumed, and distension of the stomach. These signals are integrated by the brain, and satiation is stimulated. When nutrients reach the intestine and are absorbed, a number of hormonal signals that are again integrated in the brain to induce satiety are released. It’s difficult to draw a sharp line between satiation and satiety: some foods digest very quickly, and their nutrients are available quickly enough for satiety to affect the satiation response. (Example: simple sugars and carbohydrates, whey protein isolate.) And there is strong support for the idea that taking longer to eat results in lower food intake, probably because the satiety response begins to come into play. -
Constipation! Is this normal post-op?
Arts137 replied to Adora2150's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
everything is normal, or abnormal. I had diarrhea on day 4 & 5 and then was pretty regular after... But some do complain of constipation! -
Lifting restrictions after surgery

10 pounds max for 4 weeks. -
Nope. Why?... Cause that's what the program says. In general I do try to follow the program. There are folks who do not succeed and I really don't want to be in that group. Am I perfect? No I drink coffee 1/2 and 1/2 decaf. But in general, give yourself all the odds...

EEK!!! Report the rash! You may be allergic, and these allergies could be BAD (like can't breathe bad). Antibiotics are often upsetting to the Lower GI tract (causing diarrhea) because the "good" bugs are killed off by the antibiotic. I am not as familiar with antibiotics causing a lot of nausea. Check with your MD, this does not sound right.

If I ever author a book, it's going to be called "what's wrong with denial"?
Arts137 replied to leslie1958's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hahaha, whatever works, I guess. Me, I have to know everything and then weigh the odds. I am fine. My estimate was spot on. -
You've got to be kidding me!
Arts137 replied to jmacvgs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brilliant. Parties and activies do not need to have food as the guest of honor. I was at a beer festival last weekend with friends fron HS (and I graduated in '67) and had a ball with them while drinking only Water. I felt good, not bad! And for fuel, it's Protein, veggies first. Other stuff a distant third... -

I believe this entire board is willing to be with you both. Here is where you are (IMHO)... The surgery is over and NOW the real work begins... This Real Work is control of your head. My brain is evil (I call him Skippy) and Skippy wants me to be sad, and hungry and lethargic. Skippy wants me to give up and go out for Krispy Kremes. Get your head's in this game and let us help. We are ALL with you! -
Having problems with retaining water and low bp!
Arts137 replied to moreoflife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am with Laura. 'transition from sit to stand dizziness' (hydrostatic hypotension) is very common, BUT the pattern you describe is not normal. Please DO see a Doc that you trust. This Should be addressable... -
Has anyone ever tried eating food at one week out?
Arts137 replied to liz89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is an opportunity to get your head in the game. You WANT food, but unless it's on YOUR program, you don't NEED food. Follow the program, friend! -

It will reabsorb, but it might take a while... -
YES, special vitamins are required. Your surgeon or NUT should give you this info. Search for protein suppliment / shakes that you like... there are a lot of them (minimum 20 gm protein and LOW sugars). A shaker. Unsure what else. The food plan needs to come from the surgeon - -all are very different.

Well, I take a different approach. If I see a food /restaurant commercial on TV, the 'product' (won't call it food) goes on the "NOPE" list and I will NOT go to the resyaurant or eat the food.

Some are more hungry, some less. But do NOT worry about any stall. Stay on the program and this will pass... -
I wore the gown and a robe when I walked (to cover my exposed behind).

1 week after vsg and i'm feeling fine
Arts137 replied to lawree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you are in the very common "mental and emotional" phase after WLS. Focus on the program and all will pass... if not consider talking with a counselor. Hang in there! -
You must be very nice. Me, I believe I would seriously consider giving the "family" the single finger salute. Everybody is "messed up" in some way. Being fat is easy to observe. Being an unsensitive b&^%tard is often a hidden sickness.

Im having a serious problem and wonder if anyone else has or heard of the same?
Arts137 replied to BlueClementine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"You just have to wait it out, then try to figure out what caused it so you can avoid doing it again." Is good advice. It's the slimies. Along with overeating, sometimes a food will do this. SO try new foods one at a time, and if you have a problem, cut it out for a month or two. This WILL get better, but the slimies ain't no fun! -
Please provide me with advice
Arts137 replied to blessngs2rsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
chew A LOT. Tiny bites... If it does not improve, call the MD. HINT, chicken sausage is not on my pureed list! You could grind it up to the consistancy of baby food if you want... -
Week 2 - Weight Gain - How do I not focus on the #?
Arts137 replied to GreenEyedFireCracker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are healing from major surgery, and during your hospital they added a LOT of fluids (remember the IV?). I did not lose for the first 2 and 1/2 weeks, but have slowly dropped after that. It'll all work out all right, just stay on your program! -
Yep, but like everything... In moderation. If you discover you are going through three rolls a day then maybe revisit the issue!

Sounds like me. The Lower GI gets better. Mine lasted only 2 days, and since all has been regular. Keep walking and get the water in!!!
