Using CPAP after surgery
Arts137 replied to SuperKen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Took it and used it in the hospital. Still have the "return to the patient" sticker on it. I am a believer!!! CPAP (and sleep) rocks! -
I drink V8 juice every day, and I think it helps. After the first post op week of lower GI chaos (costipation followed by diarrhea) I have been 'generally' regular.

gluten free, casein free, low carb protein powder?
Arts137 replied to Globetrotter's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
http://www.unjury.com/store/reg/nutrition.shtml Here is their ingrediant list, and They do have an "ask the nutritionist" page... -
Don't think it is related... Mostly it is surgeon preference!
-
first 4 days can be tough as you "detox". But stick with it. You'll help your surgeon by reducing the size of your liver (which covers the stomach during the surgery. And hunger or habit is something to ponder. I am convinced that I was never hungry before... I was just always eating...

Stacy and Julie, check around here for a LOT of info, and feel free to ask us ANYTHING. You are among friends here.

Protein and water, with water (liquids) first. Avoid like the plague a 'sugar hit'. It'll take you up but will also drop you LOW...

Back to the hospital

It DOES get better. Hydration is just Very important! And now your emotions are also cattywumpus, which is normal as well! Keep checking in, friend! -

weight loss and exercise, not necessarily a partnership?
Arts137 replied to Globetrotter's topic in The Lounge
Yep a pound is a pound the world around. Sorry. I meant to say that 'for its mass/size' fat takes up more space than muscle. Did not translate from my brain very well... http://www.livestrong.com/article/438693-a-pound-of-fat-vs-a-pound-of-muscle/ -
I cook like that as well. My wife will say, "I like this better than last time", but I don't remember what I did. I do basic seasoning (herbs and spices) without tasting, and RARELY add any salt. I warn folks that they may need to salt their portion at the table. So I rarely need to taste.

Wondering about Psych eval
Arts137 replied to Healthygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"there are still many emotional eating issues I have to deal with" Friend, who on this board, who has gone through the Psyc eval, that this did not apply to??? We ALL have a crazy head when it comes to food. What they are looking for are things like: do you have a supportive environment; can you understand and follow the 'complexities' of the plan while recovering; are you ready to make a long-term (forever) committment... And in reading your post YOU PASS! Be honest, tell the truth and Rock On! -

No flame from me. Exercise builds muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Exercise is good for "us" (though while I get my knee fixed I can't do much, sigh). But the One thing we all know is that everyone is different. And it's good to see you again. Are you still in-theater'? -
Oh this is Well Said!!! I mean, we might 'mentally miss' some foods, but we can live without them, right?

Anything can be pureed. And here's the trick, begin to think of food as fuel... not fun. It helped me (and still does!)

Is there a stall at 6-7 months
Arts137 replied to skinnygirl2b's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
hmmm, aside from the 'right after surgery' stall, I think the stall are pretty idiosyncratic! You have yours, I have mine!!! -
I was 63 at time of surgery. Coming close to 100# loss from my highest weight, and feeling fine. Surgery was also fine for me. Good luch as you research and make your decision!
-
If your BMI was over 50 it is commonly a post surgical Rx to avoid clots. I needed 30 days and self injected them (was easy). Insurance did pay for most (I had a copay.)
-
Yep, seems fine. I can eat more so more is on me for control!

8 weeks out need some advice
Arts137 replied to rideviaparkside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am similar to you. I believe it only means that we MUST control our head and head hunger without the "help" of nausea, Pain, etc. For me I am glad my recovery has been easy, but I stay away from carbs, sliders ALL THE TIME. I do not let me "miss" and consume treats. My name is Art and I am an addict.
