    EDG vs upper GI

They are different names for the same thing. You go to sleep and a tube (with a camera) is slid into the stomach for a look around. Easy Peasie, especially for the patient!

    How many bites per meal?

Nearly 5 months out and I can eat 1 to 1&1/2 cups of food (8 to 12 oz) at my evening meal. So I must select good Proteins and veggies. I avoid most carbs and no simple sugars. Don't know how many 'bites' but I do still eat with a baby spoon (cute eh?)

    Can't see myself thinner!

Will we ever get it together? Will we ever be normal? I am unsure if anyone is normal. I reckon everyone has a 'cross to bear' of some kind or another. On this board it is fat, and what fat has done with our minds. We all have honest work to go to get our heads in order. Let's play a mind game. Can you buy a large package of Oreos, eat two, put the rest in the cupboard, leave them there till they get stale WITHOUT EATING EVEN ONE MORE, and throw them out? I figure that would be a good test (that I am not yet ready for).

    Pureed food

You will be amazed at the differences. I was on pureed food as soon as I was released from the hospital, BUT in general follow YOUR program!

    Pre operation

BE nervous. Do the research. Know what to expect and when to expect it! The odds are long in your favor that ALL will be just fine. Enjoy the ride, dear.

    Can't see myself thinner!

Strange isn't it? I've lost 100# from my highest weight, and today for the FIRST time I glanced at myself in the mirror and thought, 'oh, yes you have lost some weight'. Just strange. And I bet you look great!!!
  9. No more large meals, or excessive eating, or eating to relax, entertain, feel better?" Yep, that's right.

    What if it doesn't work...

Well, you will have a tiny stomach post sleeve surgery, so that WILL help. But (and there is always a but) you will need to get your head in the game to have long term success. If not, you could regain the weight, and we sure don't want that! So if you follow your program and agree to create a new relationship with food (for the rest of your life) you'll be a winner!
  11. There are a GAZILLION posts on the three week stall. (20 days is 3 weeks, right?). Nothing is failing... you are just healing and your body is getting reordered. This WILL fix itself! Have patience, and if you can, don't weigh every day... just makes you crazy!
  12. Bettyann, that is how you are now, but not how you have to be. While food is your lover now, you can put him in his place and find better lovers. We are all with you, dear.
  13. You'll still be you. I had no nausea and little discomfort. If you have a BMI OVER 50, you might need Lovenox, but let your MD worry about clots (Do you have a history of clots) On clear liquids don't worry about food value, you are just cleaning out your GI tract. Best of luck.
  14. Well food has proven to be an abusive lover, so... no matter how hard, it's gotta be over!

  16. hmmm, I wonder, I bet that folks 3 years out With regrets are not on this board???

    Fear of old habits!

Use the fear. Use ANYTHING to keep control of the evil "wanna be fat" brain.

    full liquid or pureed?

it's a continuum. This this way... can you pour it? Mashed potato is pureed. Add enough liquid so it pours and it becomes "full liquid".

tell me about your 50 ponds lost?

good for you!!! keep rockin'. Lose as fast as you can but don't worry if you are a bit slow meeting your goals. The body is funny that way.

    Cravings

Thanks teach! I deal with 'em by (and I am serious) having a mental list of things I see on TV. If I have seen it on TV I will NOT eat it. I am a junkie. I can't do things half way. When I dose, I overdose. Sad but true. And for those seeking a "crunch", try celery :-)

    Any food addicts here?

this battle is multi-focal. The sleeve helps, but the real work is in our heads. Maybe now is the time for outside help? ... therapy? I read this as a cry for help, and I worry for you. In another thread there are discussions by folks who can eat a little of 'anything'. Well, not me. I can't have a 'little' because a 'little' is not in my fat-brain's vocabulary. I will never be normal. I can lose weight. I can keep weight off. But only by working hard each and every day. Read Laura's posts (and the others) over again, and, welcome to our club.

    Any food addicts here?

Great thread. That's why our 'fat brain' is the key. Somehow we need to get control and KEEP in control. Our heads need to stay in the game. Period.
