HA! she's safe from me, no worries! I am 63 and happily married! And I think the segregation of the Men's and Ladies is silly. We talk about EVERYTHING here on these boards! So not I'll get reprimanded (again)

Hello. My Name Is Revs And I'm A Carboholic And Hungry!
Arts137 replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Detroit Chick... I also had great hopes for Grehlin... But found myself "hungry" a month out. There are GREAT differences between us, and many folks will share different experiences. Here's what I think. I think my fat self had NO idea what hungry felt like. I just ate. All the time. See it. Eat it, and then eat some more. SO NOW, I plan my meals and ONLY follow my plan. I do not let my evil fat brain (named Skippy) to make "have a little bit of this" decisions. EVER. If I see a food commercial on TV, that food is BANNED. I have to be strict with myself because for me that "slippery slope" is a 45 degree angle covered with ball bearings and Mazola oil. And you know what? Hunger is not "bad", it just is. And when the plan says to eat, I eat, and get un-hungry for a while. Maybe the reduction of Ghrelin is helping. But control of "Skippy" and a plan that I follow helps more! -
The "if You Can Do That, You Don't Need Surgery" Comment
Arts137 replied to Bronco0605's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am sorry. Not having great support makes life and choices harder. You choose what is best for you. Publically you can say "thanks for your concern and heartfelt advice" Privately you can vent here and think "kiss my ass" -
Attitude And Emotions
Arts137 replied to Simpley_ke's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nobody says crazy. Just 'emotional'... maybe labile even. And it is not a girl thing. I sure was the same. And 5 months out I still grieve some of the security in a fatness world. This might be a help? http://www.weightlosssurgeon.com/old/bariatric-surgery-guide/a-new-way-of-thinking/emotional-issues -
Best of luck Dobeigh... I agree that planning is your salvation, and as a part of planning, always have 'good' Protein based food options around for you to eat. But a 'grab and go' lifestyle gives (IMHO) way too much power to your fat brain... and your fat brain will try to convince you tat "a little bit of this and a little bit or that" is OK. In the long term, it aint. Please look at some recent "food addiction" threads... and like I said, keep letting us know how you are doing.

Yep, you use it EVERY sleep, and night and at naptime. You'll even take YOUR machine to the hospital! -
Possible Sleep Apnea.
Arts137 replied to Dreamingofhealth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

It "could" get stuck, true... early on... It might not be a good diet staple... so, whats the deal? http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/generic/popcorn-popped-in-oil-unbuttered seems like little nutrition there, and can you stop with one cup of popcorn... unbuttered popcorn, by the way? The devil's in the details.

Thinking Of Having The Sleeve Done , But Im Scared Any Words Of Wisdom ?
Arts137 replied to luv2plumb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had little discomfort and was off the pain meds a few days outa the hospital. IF you have a sedentary job, maybe a RTW in 1 or 2 weeks? I was tired and was off longer (and I loved being off). It is work, mostly with your head to do the behavioral things that you MUST do to succeed for the rest of your life. I am down 100# from highest weight and neat 50 from surgery 5 months ago. Have more to lose, but am happy... -
Head's up! Not everything you hear is true. Fact, it is very uncommon to fail to lose weight with the sleeve (or you will lose weight) However, if you don't make big behavioral changes, real and TRUE lifetime changes, it is also very possible to "beat the sleeve" and regain all the weight... If all you can have is 3/4 oz at a time, but you choose to have 3 oreo Cookies with a swallow of milk every 20 minutes, you can get a Buncho calories in (let's see... over 14 hours 9 cookies an hour is 126 cookies a day. 3 cookies with milk is about 200kCal. So on an oreo day, you get in NO nutrition and eat over 8,000 calories. I am guessing that you WILL gain weight with 8,000 calories, right??? So again, Lipstick has got it right. The sleeve is a good tool, but you must keep your head in the game and decide to have a different relationship with food and activity... for . the . rest . of . your . life.

Sleeved 11.12.13
Arts137 replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mouse, I am glad you will see someone. While it WILL get better, you can get dehydrated quickly and THAT can present its own set of difficulties!!! So YES, discuss with your MD team!!! -
Terrified Of Eating Out!
Arts137 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"It kinda made me sad to see people eating burgers, bread, having desert and not being able to eat. I mean I didn't want it but felt sad. I now dread eating out and don't think eating out socially will be fun anymore." Sorry about this. Eating out DOES change. It's more about the people and setting you are with (and in). BUT it is still fun. Just focus on Protein, maybe the appetizer menu. We all are working on our "fat heads and fat brains" -
Ummm, you might not be able to. Now personally, 5 months out I can drink 'normally', but remember, the stomach is tiny, so knocking back 12 oz at once might be hard, uncopmfortable, maybe impossible...

On Display Like Some Kind Of Freak!
Arts137 replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hugs to you, and feel free to be mad, for as long as you like. When ready, ...you got no control over "them". You got control over you. In this situation, my personal inclination is to say "scew em" and move on. -
Almost 64 and the process (surgery) was a piece of cake. or easy as pie? (oops, food porn). I have lost 100# from my highest weight, am 5 months out, and now losing at from 1 to 3# a week. No rush, I got the time... The research says that the sleeve is fine for up to (at least) age 70...

Stuck and Frustrated. ..
Arts137 replied to WildChickie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might help: http://bamboocorefitness.com/one-pound-of-fat-versus-one-pound-of-muscle-clearing-up-the-misconception/ The shorthand is that muscles weigh more than fat (which is obviously silly), but muscle sure takes up less room! Have faith! -
Or. food is your first thought of the day, your last thought of the day, and many thoughts in between. Social events mean food and drink. Family events mean food and drink, alone time means food and drink, entertainment is food and drink. You look to food when you are sad. ...and happy, and angry, and... well you get the pix. But Laura's post is way more professional (and happy Uno year to you, love...) Art

I use all the unjury Protein powders and I use their chewable Vitamins too. You can get a sample pack, but I've used for over six months and still like 'em all. Service is good and they fast ship!
