Please Help Me Wrap My Head Around This...

Hey Lips... I had to lose 100# before I even ONCE saw any difference in the mirror. I have lost weight before (and kept it off for a long time). I feel that then it took me over a year at the "normal" weight before I started to accept the size of the new me. But even then, Inside the skinney man was a fat man longing to get out. That's why I keep harping about the "fat Brain". THIS time it needs to be forever. I have had the surgery. I am reducing stress (stree is a SUPER trigger for me) by retiring soon. I am (slowly) doing well on my journey. I will lose the weight. I will keep it off. But I bet I'll be with my fat Brain "Skippy" till the day I die.

Eating When I'm Not Hungry :(

Great thread. Fucked no is an acceptable response...
  4. You hit the nail on the head! "Normal" eating is something that we have not done for a long time. Normal eating is not stuffing. Not craving every day. Normal eating is not putting food at the top of every gathering, event, party. Normal eating is not sneaky eating. Normal eating is not an addictive behavior.
  5. I had GREAT dreams for at least the first week after surgery... Some Fun!!!
  6. Take fresh brussel sprouts, cut off the base (discard along with discolored leaves). Cut each head in 1/2. In bowl toss with good olice oil, salt & pepper. On a baking sheet lined with foil, spread the brussel sprouts. Add 2 TBS Water. Put a cover on the sprouts with more foil. (make a pouch with the top and bottom foil... want it to steam and tenderize for a bit) Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Remove the top foil. Return to 400 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes until parts of sprouts are nicely browned. wonderful and Good For You!!!!
  7. Turkey, maybe some veggies. There for the family. I'll also pass on the Desserts and boy can my family do da sweet things.
  8. Nope. From my plan and my research, they will not be in my future. Agua (sometimes flavored) for me. PS, Have some friends at work, one with sleeve and one post bypass, and both drink sodas. Both have regained a LOT. Not science, just an anecdore...
  9. News to me. Never seen anything about this in my research. Give it a week till all the anesthesia and pain meds have cleared and see...
  10. hehehe, just sayin' Try to stick with "slow and steady progress" and do not rush. That said most experiment (once). I did. BOY was that no fun! When your sleeve says 'no', there will be slimies, and discomfort for a couple hours and nausea and vomiting. SOME FUN!!
  11. Globe, I have reread the entire thread and I did NOT find your one sentence negative or sarcastic or mean. Sometimes we all would do well to just take the words in and not ascribe an emotional overtone to the words! And from one of your first posts on this thread: "One last thing - if you are still in your honeymoon period and already scheming on ways to eat bad/trigger foods, you might want to consider adding therapy to your recovery, I personally consider it essential." I absolutely agree. Start strict and losen up later. Once loose it is hard to tighten back up (IMHO)... And I have done this long enough to know my trigger foods and, as I have said, thinking about them is is not a problem for me (thankfully), but if I (personally, me, nobody else) has even one bite than I crave, physically CRAVE more simple carbs for the rest of the day... week... regain period... And while only 5-6 months out, I could do a master's thesis on how my own fat brain works...

    Remember This...

I am an executive in a very Political and High Stress job. NO memory loss at all... And I am in situations every day where I would know. Research does show that Ghrelin plays a part in 'locking' memories, but the research is not clear and not conclusive. The research has been animal based and it appears that the Ghrelin-hippocampus-memory connection works on an empty stomach and (just sayin) that rules most of us out anyway. So now leta all tell Laura she is witty and pretty and smart... and see if she remembers...

I Dont Think My Nut Believes In Me

    Warning:tmi .... Poop. Lmao.

  15. everybody does this... once... but do learn from this. Let's help the sleeve, y'all!!! Or " if at first you don't succeed, try, try again... then quit. No use to be a damn fool."

    Am I Crazy?!

Adam it sounds about right! Relax and heal. Hydration first and foremost, then protein up over next few weeks. And through it all use this time to get control over your " fat brain". We all have one, me for sure. Your fat brain wants to not follow your program, "have just a little of this or that..."

    Am I Crazy?!

The sleeve helps our stomachs and our bodies. It does not help our heads. I've lost over 100 pounds so far and it's rare that I see myself or feel myself as different. Something that I think Most of us work on.
  18. Fire... Yes it's VERY hard. Stick to it anyway and it WILL get better. You DO want this in your victory column... so stay the course.

    The Boomer Chat Room

Howdy. I'm 63 (4 in a couple weeks). Comin up on six months out. Doing well, though in a stall now. From Delaware, retiring soon, and I do stained glass and listen to "our" music for fun... Art
  20. Liquid phase? Gotta go through a straw (but don't use a straw!) So Soups, either strained or blended...
  21. I am lucky (I guess) in that I can have anything in the house. I won't eat it. My problem starts if I have ONE bite. I no lo comprende One Bite. If I never have the first bite I am fine. If I have the first bite, Game Over. Me and my fat brain Skippy.

    Dinner And Drinks ?

Just follow your program, as much as you can. I can't guide you away from there...

    60+ sleevers please help

Nana, I am 63 (almost 64) five months out and doing fine. No complication. No difficulty But you must be ready to have, for all your life, a different relationship with food. I like food. I enjoy food. But food is not and cannot be the be-all and end-all of life! You talk about TV time. It's a fun activity with family... It does not Require food. Please do not have surgery unless you are really really sure...
  24. Yogurt, hummas, and avocadoes were all early good go-tos for me.
  25. I am closer to "Globe's" approach. And 1/2 a pizza would have been an appetizer, not a meal for me. SO, I generally am very strict, plan my meals and don't "just have a little"...
