Anyone Else Have Trouble Focusing Post-Op?
Arts137 replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My job is mucho tense and Very Political (like testifying before Congress). And I do it well. No brain slump for me, and I get to retire VERY soon so the stress level (a BIG trigger for me) will drop -
In my program 6 months is the time before ETOH. I just had wine for Thanksgiving. 2 glasses. Got tipsy so WATCH OUT and stay in control, don't substitute alcohol for food! (it happens)

M2G, I am one of them that can't deal with sugar and simple carbs. I just get SOOOOOO hungry when I eat ANY of them and am pretty well controlled with my eating without them. SO, I am a believer in this article, and when all is said and done, I am fine with a very controlled carb/sugar life!

First Day Back To Work/chrismtas Party
Arts137 replied to Memily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Memily, Folks will comment. And I think "because I am weird" is a fine response! MUCH nicer than "F*** Off". -
darlin, love your beautiful self

What Is Skinny Anyways?
Arts137 replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I got into this a bit late... As Maria Muldaur teaches us: Well, I want a man who's built real fat Most girls don't like to see 'em like that But I like to see 'em big and tall The bigger they come the harder they fall It ain't the meat it's the motion That makes your mama wanna rock It ain't the meat it's the motion It's the movement it isn't the stock -
Anabannana (ohh, I love your name!) I am glad that they caught you and treated you. The "glue" will certainly work. Consider it a substance that makes you heal together (like a scab) rather than "glue"... and when a scab heals... it HEALS!!! Don't worry, pay attention, and focus on getting better. You are with friends here!

Thanks Feeds!!!

hmmmm When at my worst... eating and drinking and not caring for myself appropriately... the WORST thing that my wife could have done was be controversial. It would NOT have gone well. Rather what she did was send me a sweet note saying that she loved me and that she was Very worried that I was not going to live very long, etc. etc. And it worked. Was a quiet love note, I love her, I made a medical appointment and started the path (over a couple years) that led to surgery... and I hope retirement soon. Or... I am easy to love and Very Hard to live with.

Nervous Im Slipping Back ...
Arts137 replied to moorecr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Moore... Yes do your best... But I can't "work back over time", my fat carb loving brain won't let me. This might be one of those tomes that you jump in, feet first and eyes wide open... -
Psyche Eval Done. Not What I Was Expecting...did I Fail?
Arts137 replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like all or part of the MMPI. The length of the test is based on how fast you read. It appears that the only "problem" here is needing to have the receptionist keep her thoughts to herself! -
Sleep Study Requirement?
Arts137 replied to sandisleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sandi. Boy was I upset that I had to have a sleep study. No way! I slept well, rarely snored, was always fine in the AM (shoot I get up normally at 3:00AM, for goodness sake). But, it was "required", so I did it. And discovered that I have periods of apnea avering 60 times an hour... once a minute. Long story short. I have a CPAP, and I love it. And even though I thought my sleep was good, it's SO MUCH BETTER now! -
What super responses!!! Me? I got prepped, was asked "Are you ready" and woke up with the procedure over. A quick 20 minutes!

Discouraging 6 Month Insurance Required Diet :(

Every time you fall, get back up... and keep 'up' a little longer each time. -
Yes, an excellent summary. I too suggest that your letter ALSO be placed in Research and Statistics!!!

Well said my good friend. An absolutely favorite movie of mine is "Invictus". Mandela was a true leader. It is amazing that he replaced hate with love!

Another YES here, but the "but" is you need to think about what you eat. In my "fat brain time" I just ate anything... without thinking... anytime, ALL the time. Eat, eat, eat... Now I plan the day's foods and I track everything that I eat or drink. Personally, I do not do well with simple carbs / sugars (when I eat them I am FAMISHED for the rest of the day) so, like Laura, I eat a hamburger and skip the bun, etc. BUT, I do go out and eat and nobody can tell that I am eating differently. I focus on Protein and veggies. Cooped up? Drink Water, it will make you feel full for a little while. Any hobbies (ones that you don't associate with grazing - TV might be 'bad' if you used to eat while watching TV?) Shoot, go out in the snow and ice and yell at some squirrels... And keep talking to us, we are with you!

Who Else Is Not Losing?
Arts137 replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, boy is this frustrating! I am in a stall at around 320... bouncing around. All I can say is I intend to think and ponder and just keep pressing on. Just had an MD visit, and my BP, blood sugar, liver labs, lipid panel, kidneys are GREAT. So there are VERY positive changes in my body that I can't see. I figure that if I lose an OUNCE a week, well OK, what choices do I really have? I don't miss the Cookies, cakes and cupcakes all that much... The stomach won't grow back... Might as well keep "practicing my plan". -
Nervous Im Slipping Back ...
Arts137 replied to moorecr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes Laura! Back to basics... track your food and liquid, be strict with YOUR plan, and the hardest, hardest, hardest work of all is with our own heads! You'll have to get your head in the game to win this one. You might want to research the 5:2 plan, some find it helpful!?! -
What Should I Do?
Arts137 replied to ElliottWasHere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with Need2be... OR, have someone take you to class (drive) and pick you up from class? If it's not a lab it might be doable. All that said, sometimes folks feel fine early. I felt OK, but was tired! -
Hang in there JCal... It will get better if you can stay on track!

Thanks for the additional info, Fluff... I am sorry it's hard, all I can offer is a biiiig hug. ((((((((((Fluff))))))))))

Anybody Else Cheating?
Arts137 replied to MississippiQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program hates caffeine, saying it's a gastric irritant. I do break this one rule, I admit it, but please consider closely before bending or breaking any of your program's guidelines. -
Fluff, we all have our own paths, and I doubt that you can walk your husband's walk. Maybe just be you and stop short of 'enabling'. My wife is not fat but she wisely does not 'help' me... I am a terrible patient with no patience.
