Puerto Vallarta is really REALLY nice. TJ is not so nice, but then again you want to know more about the Dr's not so much the city. I live in San Diego and the I hear and see all sorts of things across the border. There are actually a lot of very reputable Dr's practicing in Mexico and they are the ones who are truly promoting tourism )aside from Spring breakers) and encouraging a healthy economy back into their country. Off of the top of my head, Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Aceves, and Dr. Garcia seem to be very popular. You may want to bring someone just so you don't feel alone and have someone to talk to. Also, if you can find someone going to the same facility around the same time maybe you both could explore MX together.

Anyone attempt a "Pre" Pre-OP diet a few months prior to having to start your actual Pre-op diet?
kulita replied to Heather Meyer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know of a few girls who live around me that are doing this right now so that they can lower their post op risks and shrink the liver. One of them lost close to 30lbs in a month from just being on 3 shakes a day plus a lean cuisine with a small salad. Granted she has a lot of weight to lose but seeing her lose that much made her smile so much brighter than I have ever seen before. Keeping the weight off should be easy if you follow the Dr.'s and NUT's instructions. When you resort to eating slider foods (search the forum for it) or junk foods that is when some people see their weight creeping back up. Some people also think they are gaining when their cycle is about to come, or they have been building muscles mass. Bottom line: Don't follow the # on your scale, take measurements instead. -
Iron, Multivitamin, B12, B1, and Calcium citrate (not carbonate). The dosage of these Vitamins changes from Dr. to Dr. also some will not requires this many vitamins based on blood work.

Wow. That is intense and you are sure to lose a lot of weight. So after 6 weeks you go straight to regular foods or soft foods?

When can/did you have any forms of Jerky? Beef, elk, turkey, tuna, deer.... I was advised that this is not the best thing to eat right now, but if I go on a hike I want to have some jerky with me.

Don't worry about it. Some have 1 through their naval and other have more than 4. I had 6! I'd rather have 6 small ones instead of 1 giant one like they used to do.

When I told my support group that my goal was to be in a size 5, there were eye rolls and gasps that I even brought up something like that. Then I explained that I know that it may be unrealistic to get to that size (esp since I am rather tall) but once I reach goal why do I have to stop working so hard at that point? Why can't I go further? If my body wont let me then I will try to maintain. Then it seemed as if others were more accepting. Now, keep in mind this is a large support group like 50+people. I was being completely honest and not sugar coating anything about my expectations. I expect that I will reach goal. I WANT to go beyond goal, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Anyone worried about being "too skinny"?
kulita replied to alyshac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have curves too and I don't want to be sickly looking. I know exactly what you were referring to when you mentioned that. We all want to be healthy and fit not too fat and not too skinny. So, as long as you are eating well, drinking lots of water. and strength training you should be fine. When I hit goal (long road ahead) I will repost on here on this thread if I can find it. -
We are sleeved around the same time. My tummy was doing the same thing earlier this week. So I went back to only Protein shakes and decided to try out each food one by one in a meal. So on Monday it was Protein Shakes and beans- no problem, Tuesday protein shakes and cheese- no problem, Wednesday protein shakes and toast- MAJOR PROBLEM. Once I found out what it was I was able to take that out and then continue to eat on my soft stage again. I will try toast again when my tummy has had a chance to heal a bit more. You could try to reintroduce your foods again

I can take dull pains pretty well but sharp pains.... forget it. I could not take the pain of the surgery. The dull part came from the incisions like I got beat up or did 5000 sit ups. The sharp part came from all of the gas and I had to get up and walk around to get rid of it. I was on a pain med IV pump that I could hit the button every 10 minutes. Around the 5 day mark I felt really good and had very minor discomfort.

Went to a party yesterday and I ate until I was full. Some watermelon, strawberries, beans, guacamole, and some grilled chicken. No problem with anything in my sleeve.

I leave for the day and come back to over 30 message on this ridiculous post?!??! COME ON! Grow up.... I thought I left high school. There isn't a need to get our point across using foul language. All of those swears could have written more tastefully in a more educated manner. I was born into an Egyptian family living in Texas, but raised in a mix of all sorts of cultures and I do believe that no one could ever say anything that is so offensive to me that I wouldn't be able to walk away from. If someone on here makes anyone that irate, you can choose to respond in an effective way that does not make you look uneducated, or not respond at all. BTW if anyone on here thinks I am talking directly to them... well then you are probably right. If you didn't do ANYTHING wrong, then this message is not for you. Let's keep the peace while getting our messages across. Now, BREATHE in deeply.... and Exhale..... Move slowly into the downward dog position.....

Everyone has their Own problems.... some people are more public and not very smart though. Maybe soon she will recognize her mistakes.

Your body needs protein. If you don't get enough your muscles with atrophy. Your heart is ALSO a muscle you don't want that to loose muscle tissue do you? Try different protein shakes, eat soft cheeses, and most importantly talk to your Dr. ASAP

^ TOTALLY agree with VSGKirk. Don't add on stress to your already stressful new lifestyle. You are trying to heal and get used to eating and savoring each bite differently now.

We are about the same weight! ok, well get off of the scale. NEVERMIND what it says. Anything could affect those numbers, clothes, aunt flo, Water retention, muscle building... Those numbers don't matter anymore. The numbers that matter are the ones at your Dr's and NUT's office which they record down. Just place a piece of masking tape on the number portion of the scale and write down your goal weight. Now every time you step on the scale you are forces to only see your goal weight and not get discouraged. You could bend over and peel off the tape but that is wrong and defeats the positive motivation of for your goal weight and stress reduction of your current weight. However, if this seems impossible to do measure your arms, chest, waist, hips, thighs, and neck. Record those numbers and the next time things have stalled or you gained remeasure yourself. Also, try eating some healthy fats like avocado they have been known to help with weight loss if you eat them at every meal during a stall.

What kind of popcicles?
kulita replied to heatwhip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^ HAHAHA. . It may be good though. Pickle juice has sodium and potassium in it which is supposed to help with any leg cramps, plus vinegar is excellent for our tummies and bodies. -
My puree stage includes soft foods. I was told but my NUT ( and it is written down) that I can have anything including meat that is tender, moist, and soft. I will admit that I had to break up the lamb meat into the sauce and let it sit for 5 minutes so that it could be a bit more moist All of these are acceptable and listed as options from my NUT's 50 page after surgery guidelines. I am about 4 weeks out and it sat really well too. No problems with pressure, gas, or pain. I just ate my meals over 45 minutes like I was told and I feel satisfied and full every time.

Not an emotional eater but I just LOVE food. worried.
kulita replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am a very social eater. I love food... GOOD food. I love the company when I eat too. I missed my food friend when I was on the pre-op and post-op liquid phases. I could smell good food with friends and I wanted to partake but I stood strong and reminded myself that later one I could have this and that. You will eventually be able to eat what you want, but you will have to savor it a bit more and eat slower. Also, you will eat a lot less. Remember you can make food your friend again just not your lover. -
I thought about this before surgery. By the time I am really old I figure that half of the population or more may have had some form of WLS (even newer procedures) and so medical science would have adjusted to this result. I mean think about it... the first form of WLS started back in 1950's. It didn't begin picking up until the 90's. Now, it is talked about on a hush-hush level like plastic surgery used to be. In 10- 20 years it will be no big deal.
