  1. My stomach made a lot of sounds for the first 2 weeks and by the 3 rd week it drastically died down. However, even though I was taking my PPI's 2 x daily I was still feeling hungry around 2 weeks post op. It was a controllable hunger though, not a "I can't stop myself... I am a like a horse with a feed bag going to chow down all the way to town" hunger. See, not all of the ghrelin will be removed from your body. A tiny bit may remain in from your stomach (depending on how your DR stapled your sleeve..sometimes this hormone receptor is not in the same EXACT spot in each person's stomach) and it is definitely produced by the pancreas as well. SO, you may feel hunger, but it should be controllable. If you have ingested Protein and are drinking an adequate amount of liquids and are still feeling hungry, then chances are that you probably are dealing with Head Hunger, or a minimized form of actual hunger.

    When can we drink soda

I had a slurpee the other day. I loved slurpee pre-op and now that they have sugar free ones, I thought I was in the clear. WELL, I'm not. I only had a few sips and then my stomach starting hurting. Apparently, slurpees have carbonation in it. SO... for all of you slurpee lovers watch out for this one.
  3. Eeeek! I bought an all electric car. GOODBYE GAS & OIL

    Am I dehydrated?

At 2 weeks I was drinking about 80oz a day and staying around 600cals with 70 gm of Protein. That was EXTREMELY difficult to do. Now, I am over a month out and I drink about 100 oz of Water, over 80gm of protein, and stay around 800 cals a day. It still is difficult but I use my head hunger to my advantage and save it for my meals which takes me about 30-45 min to eat. Remember each body is different. Follow your Dr's guidelines and you will do fine.
  5. oh my woes..... hubby made me peach cobbler for my soft foods. :( I shouldn't eat that.

    Soft diet sorrows

Yes, it happens to me. So I try to eat breakfast and lunch a little later in the day and taking small shakes in between so that I can eat dinner and have a shake before bed if I really need to.
  7. ^ I am in the same position. I can literally eat much more than I expected. I tracked it for 2 days via myfitness pal and saw that on those 2 days where I ate to fullness (not stuffed) I ate close to 1400cals!! So after those 2 days I went back to my normal 650-800ish cals. You are definitely correct in stating that we must have control over our minds and actions. I can't rely on Mother Natures hunger cues because I am often tricked by Father Time's quick and instant head hunger, which is then followed by Baby Slumber (NAP!) So, I must be very aware of what I am putting into my mouth and savor each bite slowly in order to conquer the partial beast that remains inside of me.
  8. The antibiotics are helping with the swelling and minimizes the pain. The knotted/corded feeling under my skin is still there though. On Friday I made an appt to see my Dr. again and hopefully there is nothing to worry about. In the Er they told me that normal clots usual go away within a month so if you have had one for longer than that PLEASE bring it to your Dr. attention. Additionally, if it is causing your pain notify your Dr or visit the ER straight away. Err on the side of caution.
  9. My experience is very similar to nat3185's. The major bruising came from the many Heparin doses, and from my incisions.

    Pain related to Surgery

can you get phenegran or zofran? It may help a bit.
  11. It is a little hard. I am not sure if your pre-op was like mine (2 shakes and a 350 cal dinner with salad) What I did was break up my shakes so that I drank less more often. Basically, I was drinking a 4 oz shake in every 2.5 hours and in between drinking lots of Water and crystal lite. Try that and see if it works for you. Also, you may want to get a variety of shake flavors as you may get tired of one particular flavor quickly.
  12. Yeah, but what is funny is that a lot of Dr.'s wont touch patients over 500 lbs. due to the increased in post op complications Those patients have to find Dr.'s who take higher BMI/Weight cases.
  13. mine shrank 1 size and I am 1 month out.
  14. I am supposed to watch how the antibiotics work. If I feel better and the swelling goes down after 3 days then I don't need to return, but if the symptoms persist then I am guessing I will see a specialist and more aggressive treatment.

    Soft diet sorrows

anything that is tender, soft, and moist. There are some great answers on here.
  16. Mystigal, I noticed my hand was tender but my wrist hurt the most almost immediately. My Dr. said it was a superficial clot and the typically go away without any problems, but I guess my body's WBC could not break it up and thus created an infected site. As for how long you have to worry... I would say don't worry until you have to worry. There is no need for undue stress, but also take precautions and follow your Dr's orders.
  17. It is related to the surgery but not directly. Let me explain. I had an IV in my hand during surgery that became infiltrated and the nurse decided to change it after she saw my hand get swollen. I noticed it was swollen almost immediately but I thought that I might have still been too woozy from the anesthesia. I do remember getting like 9 treatments of heperin, but I guess I still developed a clot. Ms. Antiband how long did it take for it to go away and what cream did they give you?
  18. so my blood clot in my wrist turned into n infected clot. No wonder I had so much pain

  19. So you ate 2 sandwiches? How did you figure this was 6 in?

    Stomach spasms

Yeah it gets better. The spasms quiet down for some people and for others a trigger food will bring on spasms. Mine has mostly quieted. I thought I was doing real good and wasn't hearing or feeling anything for about 4 days and then something as simple as eating my family's hummus (my native food) brought it back on. Weird, right?

    Coffee & Weight Gain Study

Good thing we aren't mice who eat a high fat diet. LOL
  22. First off take this test to find out your capacity. http://www.bsciresourcecenter.com/proddetail.php?prod=A4 It is a valid bariatric test. What you do is measure a tub of cottage cheese. Then eat until you are satisfied but not full to the point of uncomfortable. Weight the remaining portion leftover. Subtract the 1st weight with the 2nd weight and that should give you a good est on how much your sleeve actually holds. Now, Just becuase you can eat a 6 in sub now doesn't mean anything really. I mean it makes a big difference if it were a plain meatball w/ sauce sub versus a roast beef with all the fixin's sub. Also the bread type does matter too. White breads expand much more than wheat ones do in the stomach. You can experiment with this using white vinegar and a slice of each type of bread. Soak until saturated and notice any expansion and break down at the 30 min and 60 min mark. The weights and texture ability of both of these subs are very different. The meatball one may weigh more but may also break down more easily thus creating a slider type of food. The roast beef one may weight less but has a lot more roughage and could fill up up faster. So, more details on the type of sub would help.
  23. I actually love green beans. I really like them pickled and with smoked ham.
  24. I am taller than most girls and I would often hear that I don't look big enough for that surgery. Big enough.....????? Really? So that person is subtly informing me that they know I am BIG just not The World's Biggest Gal big. I had to tell them that I am qualified to have the surgery but I have other conditions that I found to life threatening to deal with if I didn't have the surgery.
