Solids, why must you hurt?
kulita replied to journeybegins05032013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you eating canned veggies and fruits? Leave veggies and fruits with tough skins (apples, corn) and with fibers or seeds (tomatoes, celery) about until about 6 months... well cooked Beans are ok. What about soft meats like canned tuna moistened with mayo, tofu, shredded chicken with mayo or chicken broth, eggs, and cottage cheese? Leave out red meats for 6 months too. As far as soft carbs go, that is mainly a well cooked potato or carrot (steamed is good), creamed cereals, plantains, and moist rice (soupy rice). Granted this is a generalized rule of thumb but it will keep you focused on the idea of the textured foods you should have in the soft phase.Towards the end of this phase many progress quite nicely into eating flaky fish and seafood meats. -
How many on here have had a drain. If so, what was it for? I am asking because I did not have a drain and I have no idea why I would have needed one after surgery.

I am with Mickeydies and Johnlatte on the diet schedule. It may be too much too soon. Also something to think of is that you need to introduce food one at a time to understand your tolerances. So, if you just came from a week of nothing but liquids to chicken and asparagus, crackers and roast beef, and eggs with toast you may be in for a surprise. That is too many new things too soon. Your sleeved tummy should be treated like a baby who has to go on their staged diet for 1-2 years. Savor every bit of what you eat and learn to slow down and enjoy your introduction of new foods. Who knows, you may find something that you really like now. -
^ see... two very different answers. Well, listen to your body. If you have been nauseous lately try the lortab after you have had some Protein.

When can we drink soda
kulita replied to amielou26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also told nuts, seeds and coconuts were off limits too -
I forgot to add that every hour try to stand up and walk around a bit for 10-15 minutes. That helps A LOT with gas and moving the bowels along.

EVERYTHING you wrote sounds like what happened to me. I think it may be gas, but to be sure take your temperature and notice if you have any fevers, chills, sweating, and nasuea along with the pain. If you are unable to keep anything down call your DR. immediately and head to the ER. If you notice the additional symptoms call your DR. Although from your symptoms I am really sure it is gas. What helped me a lot is drinking once the liquid touched my lips and not as soon as the spoon/cup touched my lips. I had to learn real fast that a lot of trapped air from drinking like that made me bloated and gas me lots of gas. Also, I felt like I got beat up really bad when I came out of surgery. That seems funny now, but I was in tears. I had a PCA attached to my IV, and was given liquid Lortab/vicodin by mouth. Another thing you can do is write down EVERYTHING you are putting into your mouth. It is very possible that you may be taking in too much at one time. I hope your pain gets better. PM me if you want to chat.

When can you drink again?

That is good information to know mysleevemylife. How many glasses did you have per hour and when did you know it was time to stop for the day/night? -

GREAT ADVICE! My NUT is always telling me to make sure that I "Don't drink my calories" Then I always say, "I have to have milk".... LOL. I agree try cutting out some of the carbs and change up your exercise. In a month, see if you notice a difference. If not, then you may want to see your DR. -
^ the thing is she is tired of hiding... that is why she is posting the recipes. She is admitting that she has to lead a healthier life by cooking more now, and she hate's cooking. She was looking for support from her friends. I do agree that her friend should be deleted if she continues... What sort of "friend" does that to another??

All of your feelings are very normal. At some point in time I am sure that 85$ of the people in this forum has had similar thoughts. Each person is different in body chemistry and will adhere to their surgeon's diet differently. If you follow the guidelines set forth you will be a success. After your surgery just think of it like this. If you NEVER followed any of the instructions (which you should) your stomach will NEVER return to the size it once was... even if you do happen to stretch it out. This is the restriction and your tummy will have you eat in moderation. Now THAT should ease some of your fears. However, many of us actually do follow the guidelines set forth because we don't want to continue to be sick and in pain. We want to feel normal and lead normal lives. This part is up to you. so do it diligence and you will be successful. You probably will have a bad day and mess up a few times. We all do... we are human... and it is normal. it is up to you to make sure you recognize that, not beat yourself up over it, and get back to following the meal plan. After 6 months most of us have a very normal meal plan and can eat most anything.

Well, not really. I mean if you think of diet as rabbit food then you are looking at this wrong. Each of us has to follow a diet and that is #1 Protein first. Everything else is secondary. There are a lot of people who are VERY happy with this surgery and eat delicious meals. This lady http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Is such an inspiration and she enjoys what she is eating... not to mention the food looks really good. Try out some of her recipes and follow portion control. -
I am with you on this. I was always a big Water drinker before surgery. Early in the morning I find that I can do almost the same thing. As the day moves on, and I have more substance (shakes) in me, the amount I can consume lessons. I too cannot stand the Isopure but, I know a lot of people who can. In fact my hubby got this giant tub because he likes it and he thought I would drink it too. Well, it was not to my liking I got samples from unjury (their chicken Soup is AMAZING) and Syntrax's nectar (VitaminShoppe). Try the samples before you buy it will save you on buying something you hate. I know that a lot of people on here buy the Costco/Sam's Club brand but that was waaaaay too sweet and thick for me. Also,

It is YOUR FB page, right? You can put WHATEVER YOU WANT on there. If she doesn't like it or doesn't have anything nice to say to you about it, then she should keep her mouth shut. My guess is that she thinks she is being supportive when, her actions are clearly in line with steamrolling/sabotage

When can you drink again?
kulita replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a VERY social eater. I had a lot of enjoyment in going out. Now my enjoyment is savoring every tiny bite As for the drinking, you may want to avoid carbonated beverages (beer, gin & tonics, etc..) as they could give you some very nasty gas and make you bloated. Once bloated you could rupture a suture line in your stomach if it is still healing. If it has already healed, you risk the possibility of stretching out your sleeved stomach. Although it may never get back to its original size, stretching it sort of defeats the purpose of getting the vertical sleeve. -

Hun, Calm down a bit. First off LOOK at everything you have accomplished so far! Don't focus on other people and their successes/failures YOU are not them and YOU do not have their exact same body chemistry. YOU lost 66 lbs! Scream it out.... That is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! You may continue to lose more up until 24 month mark (typically). I haven't any idea what you are currently doing right now, but EVERYONE can ALWAYS improve upon what they are currently doing. Maybe you can consider taking in more Protein, weight training, and limiting more carbs. In about a month the scale may move a bit more when you alter these factors. Again, don't panic. You made a healthy choice and YOU ARE A SUCCESS! Make some smaller adjustments if you would like to sustain maintenance or possibly increase weight loss. -
Incision Pain My Top Left side
kulita replied to BullRidinMomma2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days out and mine still aches. I think my area underneath the sutures ( not the sutures itself) may be tender. I mean I used to have a big cushiony stomach to shield my spleen and pancreas. Now, They can only hide behind a smaller one. Mine hurths more when I lay down too. On May 16th I go back to my surgeon, so if it still hurts by then I will ask what is going on in that area. -
Day 11 and feeling mighty fine. I wish I could take a very hot shower though. Dr says I have to wait a full month before I can do this.
-
In Total, 35 lbs have been lost. Since my surgery about 12 lbs. I too am on runny/full liquid diet until May 16. Then I can moved into pureed. Today I was able to have thinned cream of wheat. I was happy to eat something other than Soup. Although I will mention that I have been having some very delicious soups.

You can go into ketosis by burning off fat. This fat makes the blood more acidic which in turns places stress on our kidneys... thus we get the unquenchable thirst. Adding in a tad bit more carbs can through ketosis off.

When can we drink soda
kulita replied to amielou26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the exact same thing... make the soda or beer go flat and then you can drink it. BUT..... WHY would we want to drink something that is flat? -
How has everyone been lately? I have a discomfort-like pain on my left side where my spleen is. That area aches at night time when I am lying down. I think that it still may be a bit tender there.

Dr. Garcia vs. Dr. Aceves?
kulita replied to marielove's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
With the Bullet machine watch out that you don't drink down extra air. The shakes can make foam from these machines and that gas will be horrible on a newly stitched tummy
