I'm curious how much your lap band removal's cost you? My insurance will pay 80%. Also, how did you feel after and how long until you felt normal again? Thanks!

Got mine out 2 days ago after having it 9 plus years. It only took about half and hour and I had very little pain after. Already switched to motrin instead of Lortab. Lots of nauseau, but other than that..doing great. I will never have another weight loss surgery. So excited to eat fresh veggies and fruits without worry!!

I'm having mine out in a couple weeks and very nervous. I have had it 9 years. What pain meds did you take after? I am very sensitive to pain meds and breastfeeding so would like to try only Ibuprofen. Wondering your thoughts? I hope this is my last surgery ever.

I have had my band 4 years. I was pregnant and had my son with the band! The doctor said the metal connecter in the tubing had eroded from the inside out. Crystal -
Open and leaking incision concerns
jesces replied to Carla K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So this is ok? Mine was a little oozy when I went to the dr. Even more now. It soaks my gown, shirt, and he told me to leave it open to air? What do I do, carry around gauze and mop it up constantly? He told me not to use butterfly bandaids, but I tried,.......should I take it off? It seems to help some, and they are sterile, so I don't see the problem. Please helP? Two months out and you still had leakage...........oh yikes. Crystal -

My goodness! I just had my port replaced last week, and I got the hospital bill.......$17,000!!. That is NOT even the doctor bill. How can it be so much more just for that. Crystal -
When did you take off your steri strips or bandages?
jesces replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My steri-stripes from my port replacemnt just came off. Now I have a small area on one side opening. I had it covered with sterile gauze and a bandaid butterfly closure.......but at the doctor today, he took them off and told me to leave it open to air. It is oozing and gross, I can hardly stand to leave it uncovered. He didn't really even look and see that it is opening, I just told him. He seemed to think it would heal if I left it opened to air. Anyone else have this problem? Crystal -
Port replacement and FILL/UNFILL. Plz read.

Thank you for your replies. This dr. comes highly recommended, so I guess that is why I wondered if I was just overreacting to the pain...... My incision looks worse than any I have ever had. It is puffy in the middle, almost looks like a tad bit of fatty tissue is outside of the skin, and is oozing. I cried when I saw it. In addition to that, he took those two ster-strips off from the middle. I am so worried that this incision isn't going to look like the others, but may have a piece of fat skin sticking out. Anyone else have an incision that looked like that, but healed flat? Crystal -
Hi everyone. I had my port (and some tubing) replaced Wednesday. I have had my band for four years, but haven't had much success BECAUSE I got pregnant right after. By the time I had him and finished breastfeeding, I had the leak, and have been waiting for SOME time to get an insurance approval. The metal connector on my tubing eroded from the inside out. My new doc said it was the first he had seen. So, I had this replaced. He put 1 cc in during surgery, and turns out that I couldn't even swallow water. He didnt believe me and had a barium done (that I promptly threw up), which showed that I was right.......too much fill. Here is the bad part. He made me stay overnight to come back the next day and take some fill out. I knew a fill would be uncomfortable right after surgery, BUT this was soooo bad. He did do the lidocaine. I had not taken any pain meds either. (he didn't "think" I would need them). The fill was HORRIBLE. Im not sure why, but he could not find the port, and poked me MANY times, not to mention poking around in my insides for the port. I have had over 20 fills in my four years, and have NEVER been even a little uncomfortable with them, but this killed me! I was trying soooo hard not to cry, and to stay still. He just kept poking and poking, and I could feel him poking things inside! He finally got a new needle (horrible I know) and found it, took some out easily. I am so nervous now to go back to him for a fill. He is new to me, but Im so scared........ However, I know I may have some swelling?? Maybe that is why he couldn't find it easily? He also had me laying flat, and my prior docs would have me do a situp or something to bend that area......... I also have a terribly tender large swollen area above the incision.......I don't remember if I had that for the first surgery or not. Have any of you hat that? And it has been 3 days and I still hurt.........am I supposed to still hurt? I just don't remember any of this, and my dr. is out of town until Monday. I fill well, not sick or feverish. What are your thoughts on my ordeal. Please answer. Blessings!!! Crystal

Hi, I thought I had a leak three months ago, and after about $400 in travel and dr. fees for five fills, my P.A. finally thinks I do too. She stated I needed my port replaced w/o any dye injection, anything. I asked how she knew it was the port, and she said, because that is where it usually is???:paranoid I told her I could not afford another surgery, asked if it was covered under warranty, and she said there is no warranty on the Inamed band, and I signed papers on that (dont remember three years ago), and I have new insurance.......soooo. I remembered reading that several of you have had your docs fill your band with thicker solution, omniplaque, etc and it solved the problem. I asked her about this and she said something about it getting stuck and not getting it back out, but that she really hadn't heard about it and would research it, and HERE is where I need help! If you have had your band filled with the thicker stuff, would you please write me a paragraph or so testimonial so that I can show her people DO this (she looked at me like I was nuts, and said I needed to stay off the internet). Please email me if you have had this and it worked or didn't work. I think my hole is small, because it holds for several days. Please help! Crystal

Thank you so much, Denise. I asked him and he just said he has heard of it, that is about it. Temporary fix at best. That is exactly what I need though!..LOL. I need a temporary fix. I just had heart surgery for SVT, and cannot afford another one until this one is paid for. Not to mention, I need to heal. Blessings! Crystal

If I could just get TWO more people who have had a fill of ominpaque to email me. I would really like to get these testimonials together and fax them to my dr. tommorrow! Please help. Crystal

Thank you! Anyone else, if you have had this please reply! I would like to fax the responses to my doctor this week, so they can consider this for me before I gain everything back! My fill was sitting at 1.5 (everything else had leaked out), but after I left I realized she took ALL of that out! So now I am 0. I don't know if she forgot or what, but I am two hours away, and that makes me a little sad. She should've left that little bit in, so I would still have something....you know!? Anyways, thanks for everyones help. Crystal
