How Soon Can I Resume My Pre-Sleeve Eating Lifestyle?!?!

I have 'cheated' a few times, but I try to balance that and never go overboard, or make my treats something relatively healthy, like chocolate mousse made from silken tofu, so it has lots of Protein, etc. I guess my mindframe is that I don't want to go back to my pre-surgery eating habits because I don't want to go back to my pre-surgery body or lifestyle. I will be happier this way. Even if it means a little less instant gratification. If these are thoughts you have frequently, (about bingeing) see a therapist! Having surgery does not stop you from having an eating disorder. You are in recovery, and maybe some help with those urges would be beneficial?
  2. I realized today that I'm down 70 lbs from surgery and 90 pounds from about a year ago, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself right now! My surgery date was 11/16/2012 Now, I just need to remember to take some pictures! It's hard to remember to take pictures after dodging cameras for many years. How are other November sleevers doing? HW:330 DOS:310 today: 240!!!

is there anyone with bmi of 40 or 41

Mine was higher than that, but my insurance required 100lbs of excess body weight or certain comorbidities.

    am I being naive? ?

I told close family and friends before surgery, and have told more people since then. Part of that is to explain my habits changing, and my body changing. I'm not ashamed of my decision. It was the right choice for me, and so far everyone has been super supportive. I think I'd feel guilty if I said it was just diet and exercise, personally, but that's just my reaction because I wouldn't feel as if that were the truth for me. Everyone has different comfort levels. Do what feels right for you. I know that being totally honest for me, might give other people a role model or show them another option that they could have. It doesn't need to be taboo in my opinion.

Did your husband support your decision?

My husband was behind me all the way, but the therapist that my program requires you to see suggested that partners/husbands, etc might want to see a therapist to help deal with emotional and jealousy issues that could spring up.

What should i do know to prepare for surgery

Prep your fridge and freezer beforehand. Get a timer! I made sure I had homemade broth, sugar free popsicles, and I borrowed a juicer so I could make fresh juice for myself.

    This 1 stinkin pound

Stalls are totally normal! Try maybe weighing once a week instead of every day for a little bit, or write down your weight every Sunday morning (pick a day) so you can see your progress more clearly. You won't see it day-to-day. You don't loose weight every day, you loose it in chunks.

    Inches not pounds?

You're gaining muscle, and shedding fat! You're doing great. Keep going!

Did something I probably shouldn't have

Don't feel bad about it. You know you shouldn't have, so now you know what it was like and you can learn from it!

    Massive appetite little restriction

I like the boiled chicken idea! Try slowing down while you're eating- take a LONG time, and chew, chew, chew. Maybe that would help?
  14. Interesting. I don't know that a blinking red light would slow me down, but it's an interesting concept.

How much u can eat at 9mos post op?

I definitely feel that head hunger too! Up your water intake (if you're not getting enough). It sounds like you might not be getting enough protein. It looks like you're getting lots of carbs (cereal and pizza dough) but not enough protein- your only sources there are the cheese and milk! Have eggs or sausage or even leftover meatballs for breakfast if it'll help you be less hungry!

    Selfish or not?

I had surgery because I had been trying for year to loose enough weight to feel like I could have a healthy pregnancy, but was never able to be successful on my own. I don't think it's selfish if you are really looking to make a change in your life and are committed.

    Breastfeeding mommas!?

I might suggest talking to your surgeon, pediatrician, and a lactation consultant.

Finally Pregnant & 6 mo post

Congrats! My surgeon wants people who get pregnant that soon after being sleeved to have blood work done.

    Too soon to try?

My surgeon wants his patients to use at least TWO forms of birth control for the first year or more.
  23. My main reason for weight loss surgery was to get healthy enough to have a healthy pregnancy because I wasn't able to get to that point on my own. I'm 25. I'm hoping to try getting pregnant once I am closer to my goal. I'm only 4.5 months out from surgery so far, so I have a while before I'll get the okay from my surgeon.

    Loose skin

I'm 25, and started at 330. Yesterday I weighed 244, and I'm 4.5 months out from surgery. I was 310lbs at surgey. I definitely have loose skin, but so far it's manageable. I'm going to start wearing shapewear under my clothes soon to help them fit a little better (not to make me smaller, but to distribute that skin a little). I think over time my skin will firm up and bounce bake a little, but I KNOW I'll have loose skin, and that's a side effect I was willing to live with. If it really interferes with my life/happiness/health maybe I'll try to get it removed once I reach a constant weight near my goal.

    Weight lost has stalled

You're on your way! Remember that not all progress is on the scale! Take the opportunity while your weight is staying the same to maybe up your fitness, or to start some strength training, etc. You'll break through this stall!
