Hi all. I had my sleeve done Jan 2013. Shortly after that I developed gallstone pains. After a year and a half I'm finally over it and having it removed. Now with this pain I had to learn how to eat in a different way than my surgeons have instructed. (Basically I was told to eat lean meats and high natural fats such as nuts, but butters and avocado etc..) that being said- almost all of those things triggered gall attacks. So I can handle meat still- give me a juicy steak and I'm a happy girl! While my doctor doesn't really have advice as to what I can and can't eat- I've read to stay away from red meats, all peanuts, all fatty foods (including healthy fats and oils that my body definitely needs!!) I've also read I should stay away from dairy for a long time- so there goes my high protein soft food. I am unable to supplement many vitamins- my body just rejects them- still unknown why- so I've relied heavily on healthy nuts and oils and such to help my nutrition. This all being said. I know some of you have been through this, any advice would be amazing! What can I eat post gallbladder removal surgery? At this point I'm thinking chicken broth.... And I'm almost stumped at that! Thank you in advance for the advice!

Gallbladder remival surgery in 3..2..1
Kellyj574 replied to Kellyj574's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you!! That brings piece of mind!!! I'm trying to put together a "post op" menu, and I seemed to run out of ideas for really soft foods that don't have dairy, or any fat in it. This should be easier now thank you! -
January sleevers......what's your weight loss so far?

Hi all, I was sleeved in January 2013. I have been experiencing several episodes of an incapacitating pain. And last night the doctors were finally able to pin it down to gallstones. (Side note: originally when I had my surgery I had Kaiser insurance, now I have something else and my surgeon isn't able to communicate with me--insurance politics or something silly like that--anyhow-) I advised the ER doctor and every other doctor that saw me that I have had the surgery. Once they figured out what was happening they advised me to eat a low to no fat diet to help keep the pain away. That being said, how do I do that!? I eat mostly meat and cheese and yogurt! How can I eat mainly fruits and veggies when I NEED PROTEIN!? I guess I can always supplement (my doctor was never really an advocate for supplements... His reasoning was why would you consume unnecessary calories when you can just eat a steak and be satisfied?) so I really never had the chance to learn the way of the supplements. And not just supplements but what foods are a good choice that are high in protein and low in fat? Teach me your ways fellow sleevers! I need all the advise and help I can get!! Thanks in advance for the help!

Need some tips for gallstones!
Kellyj574 replied to Kellyj574's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much Laura! That list will really help! And good luck to you also Meliss! It is so very painful, but I'm going to try a few home remedies and eating lower fats before resorting to surgery. I've had my share of medical bills for the year! Haha But really thank you- both! -
Lets see I work at a local kosher winery running both the office and tasting room, I also work in a bakers kitchen as her assistant, together we make the best tasting cookies (that I no longer taste ) I also am a Mary Kay beauty consultant, and I work with children in local musical programs, teaching them about how to play, learn and read music. Oh yes and I am a wife =)

Sore legs and hips
Kellyj574 replied to saudisleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the pain related to exercise or anything? Or just coming and going throughout the day? I get pains deep in my hips when I take a big hike or run too much, but usually throughout the day it's fine, just sore when I work them too much. I figured that was just my joints punishing me for being unhappily overweight for so many years! Stretching is seriously a miracle! Do it everyday! I have to do it twice a day because my muscles are too tense. But it really helps me! Good luck to you! -
It goes away or minimizes more. I went through this as well, and while thankfully I don't have children yet, it was still difficult for me to really get excited about anything. Not just sexually, but pretty much anything. Once you begin upping your exercise routine you will have more energy and you will be back to normal and then some. This will pass... No worries! Best of luck with everything!

I had a really hard time tolerating things like ice cream up until recently. I'm talking one bite of my husbands ice cream and i'd run to the bathroom to puke my guts out (sorry for the visual) so i stayed away from it for a while, and last week i decided to try another bite of my husbands ice cream and I could tolerate it... I think my issue was the sugar and the milk product.. no bueno! but I can handle yogurt and cheese no problem! but I had some SLIGHT dairy intolerance prior to surgery, it was all just amplified.. Its not something I make a habit of eating, and its not something I will eat in excess... its just a nice treat every now and again. I would try the Protein ice cream recipe that Kat was talking about, that sounds like its more tolerable!

Hi! Thanks for creating this group! I live in Napa, close enough to Vacaville! In fact I worked there for a number of years. How has your sleeve journey gone so far?

January sleevers......what's your weight loss so far?
Kellyj574 replied to pottergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on January 23, 2013. starting weight 300lbs. this morning I weighed in at 206.4. I am so thrilled, I am more motivated than ever to continue moving forward on my journey and see what else I can do! Congratulations everyone, your stories are very inspirational to me! -
Thats Great!!!! I had sort of the same motivation, (not nearly as exciting as a pretty dress and a cruise) but mine was a pair of jeans. They're so soft and perfect in EVERY WAY!! and I bought them in 2007. wore them ONCE and grew out of them. so my "first goal" was to get into those jeans... I had Surgery in January and now I can wear them (and I do just about 4 days a week haha) but now I'm almost too small for them =/ so I guess this means I need to find a cute new something -- possibly an awesome dress for a cruise! and hang that front and center in my closet for me next goal! Congratulations, and best of luck to you on your journey!

Some motivation please

I had this happen also. Just be very mindful of what and how much you put in your mouth. Go back to measuring things out and WRITE DOWN Everything you eat and drink and how much, It was at this point I began to journal it all in "My Fitness Pal". It really helps seeing what your eating, and being accountable for it. Good luck to you! 33lbs is a terrific accomplishment! You can do it!! =) -
trading one disorder for a new one?

trading one disorder for a new one?
Kellyj574 replied to DeezJeanz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This point is very valid! when I was Pre op my surgeon and his team really dug deep in this topic. They really stressed that the sleeve is a TOOL and it will HELP you achieve your goals. Not do it for you. I however had it stuck in my head "yahoo I'm gonna be skinny! I'm gonna shop in a normal store" yada yada. at this point I am only 6 months Post Op, but let me tell you, yes the sleeve does wonders, but unless you really change your life and adapt to all the aspects of what it entails, you most likely will re gain your weight back. I'm not saying that I've been an angel with the sleeve. I still enjoy a beer every now and again and I still love sweets. But you will learn moderation. I am also a mindless eater, I eat when I'm bored, I eat when I'm happy, i like to sit with a bowl of pretzels while I read. But I've made the decision that I don't want to weigh 300lbs the rest of my life. unfortunately with the sleeve you cant "have your cake and eat it too" All that being said, I would highly recommend seeing a therapist of some sort and talk to someone about your vices. (I've even heard of some gals from another support group that go sit in on weight watchers meetings just to be accountable on a regular basis for what they put in their mouths, any little thing can help!) honestly we do have an eating disorder, and if you don't change the way you live, you will find something else like shopping, alcoholism, sex addict, hoarding... (NOT saying that it WILL happen, just saying were a little more prone to replace one bad habit with another). To sleeve or not to sleeve, that is the question, If this is the main concern I'd say there are resources that you can utilize so this isn't an issue. It was the BEST decision I've ever made. Best of luck with your journey, and your decision making. Its so worth it, especially with all of the resources we have at our fingertips! -
Question for people with small dogs
Kellyj574 replied to Rachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a small dog but I do have a big dog and a cat and a 2 year old niece and an 8 month old nephew that insisted in climbing all over me right after surgery. After all what is more fun than an adult with undivided attention!? But I just took caution and used pillows etc to protect myself and I was fine... Dogs are pretty in tune with what goes on, I'm sure your little baby will understand =) good luck -

Nerve issues under left arm
Kellyj574 replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just about ALL of my issues I've had since surgery target my left side, I wonder why that is. I would say what you're experiencing is just a day to day issue, unrelated to surgery. Good luck to you, hope you figure it out soon! -
Extreme stomach pains almost 6 months out..
Kellyj574 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was sleeved back in January. Healed really well. Yada yada... Today marked the third time that I've experienced this horrifying pain in my stomach. It's all upper abdomen, it feels like everything just starts caving in ( my stomach, my chest cavity making it extremely difficult to breathe.) and eventually it turns into what feels like knives are ripping me open from the inside out. The first time it happened I obviously went to the ER. They ran the Appropriate tests and whatnot and sent me home. Granted they gave me some meds to ease the pain, but all in all it lasted about 2.5 hours ( coming and going in waves that I describe on a scale from 1-10[10 the highest] fluctuating between a 10 &a 7. The second time it happened I'd rate it about a 7, but it only lasted about 30 mins. This last time it happened was today, and it was by far the worst. I'd say I was feeling a level 10for a constant 2 hours. Today I didn't go to the ER,,simply because all they can really do is give me morphene and my bill will be outrageous again... (Yes I have insurance, but holy hell you should have seen my hospital bill from the trip to ER!!) I know that whatever happening is accompanied by a panic attack, and that's why it get so very hard to breathe. I am not prone to any sort of panic attack or anything so this is the first I'm experiencing it. On a side note, the doctors found nothing wrong with me... (I should say they were able to rule out the awful things like miscarriage and appendicitis and my stomach somehow exploding haha). The ONLY pattern similarity in my eating habits these occasions have been a small caffeine intake each day this has happened. (And before I get lip I know that it's a no no, I enjoy coffee I know I'm not the only one, but since this all began I have switched to decaf. And the reason for the caffeine intake was simply my own stupidity not asking my husband what he's drinking before I take a swig or two) this all being said I'm guessing it could possibly be a ulcer of some sort ( I have no idea what they should feel like so please help here =) ) At this point I feel like I've written everything I've experienced buy i may be missing something, but as for now I've written so much that I'm pretty sure it resembles word vomit, so excuse that and the poor grammar due to the iPhone, and please help!! =) thanks in advance for and clues to what is happening! -

Kellyj574 replied to Kellyj574's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it has been approved for many, but it wasn't approved for me (the only reason I chose to drink it is because I saw post from others that like you had their surgeon tell them it was ok.. so naturally I jumped on board because I LOVE my morning cup of joe) Buy anyhow, I was told that caffeine, alcohol, and carbonation in excess can cause ulcers... So that's where my mind was going with that. But this is not something I have researched, just through word of mouth. Thanks for the input though, I really hope it's not caffeine, but secretly I'm hoping that's all it is haha -

Ooh and the gallbladder, to be quite honest I THINK they ran a test for that (I know I sound like a total idiot for saying that) because my surgeon said that they ran all the tests he would have...but I've scheduled an appointment for Tuesday to see what could be happening. So I will keep ya posted. -

Kellyj574 replied to Kellyj574's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I emailed him about what happened. His response was simply "I'm sorry you're going they this, and it sounds like the doctor in the ER ran every test I would have so theres no need to come in." So In a nutshell to me said that I shod be fine, just be careful. And I have been for the most part. Thanks for the kind words ! -
