    Emotional Before Banding

No..... never thought much about it except being nervous. Did have thoughts of regret 5 days after my surgery. But now... I would never change it for anything!!! It will be wonderful!!!!
  2. This is going to sound silly, but another reason I don't care about telling people........saving money! We go out alot and travel frequently. A lot of times for example, there are buffets for breakfast when we stay at hotels. I usually just let them know that I am going to only eat a child's size portion because of my weight loss surgery and can't eat much and I only pay the childs price. Silly yes, but hey, why not!!!!!!! And they never tell me no! Hee!
  3. Ok. I have to add my two cents to this one. First of all, Nov 2nd is a great day for your surgery! It's my bday! Second, if you don't want to tell anyone, don't. It is a personal thing you are doing for yourself. You may feel differently after it is done. People who make their comments about it being an easy way out, are just dumb-asses!!! It is not an easy thing to do and it is life changing, for the better I must say! I have no regrets about having my surgery. I really didn't want everyone to know at first (had mixed emotions) and was disappointed when my mom started to tell all her friends. But as time went by and I was losing weight and inches, I was very proud of what I had done for myself. Some of us are just made to gain weight, don't know why. This is what I was able to do for myself to keep from gaining anymore. I refer people to my doctor now if I get the opportunity! If I can help someone else feel better about themselves and become a healthier person, then I want the world to know!!!!!!! My dad had gastric bypass in Feb and he tells everyone too! I am proud of myself, and so are my family and friends! Keep your chin up and you do what is best for you!!!!!!!! Don't worry about what anyone else says or thinks!!!!!!

    Clear Lake Area

Hi. I live in League City and was banded back in January. Love having the band. Would not change a thing. Dr. Spivak was my doctor too. I love him! I even helped out with his seminars for a little while. He is a great doctor.

Hit a Plateau - Any Advice?

I have been in that boat too lately. Plateau that is! I think exercise has helped me. I really haven't done much exercise since my surgery. Have been bike riding and getting on the treadmill lately, and it has helped. I have lost 5 more lbs the last 10 days. I think I may need a fill just because I think I want more restriction. I have a little under 40 lbs to lose, and if I have to suffer a little, it will be all worth it. I have been debating..... my dr. comes back from vacation next week. I may call him. I wouldn't get rid of the Diet Coke if you love it. Maybe buy those little half size cans so you can still enjoy it. I am the type that has to have a root beer or dr. pepper several times a week. I just buy the small ones because it satisfies me and I drink less. Just a few thoughts!

    What is normal?

I actually called my doctor at 9 weeks and said the same thing. He told me to come on in. I told him that I felt like I was able to eat more too. He said then lets try your first fill. It definately made a difference. But if you are still losing at least 1 to 2 lbs a weeks, you are still on the right track. And, I can eat a ton of salad! I can sometimes eat a whole sandwich. I do better on some days than others. Just kind of watch it and if you feel like maybe you may need a fill, call your doctor as I did!

    Regain of weight

People can gain their weight back if they do not make and effort to change for life! Ice Cream, Shakes, SWEETS! I have to admit, I have had great success, 31 pounds and 24. 76 inches in three months, but I do grab candies and bad stuff sometimes. We are only human. But I think because I eat so much less than I ever did, I still lose! Go for it! It is the best thing I have ever done besides marry my husband and have my children!!!!!! And I love the fact that I have an "Automatic Stopping Device"!

    The first steps!

I had my first fill on Monday. I have noticed the restriction. I get really choaked up after the first few bites of something. I let it settle and then I am ok from then on. Is this normal?

    after the operation.....

Gosh, I am a wimp! I had my babies the natural way, so I had never had surgeries! But, one of my friends has had her boobs done and her eyes, and she said she would do that all over again before her tummy because the abdomen is the worst place to be cut! YOu don't realize that every moment you are using those muscles! But............In the long run, I think everyone here would agree, pain or no pain, it was the best thing we have ever done!!!!!

    Help

Everyones doctor is different! If your doctor says you can eat, then do so. I was able to start having soft veggies and fish on my 4th day post op. And you can tell that I have had great success.... look at my ticker. I think that some doctors follow the same meal plan for LabBand and Gastric Bypass, that is why some people will tell you not to eat yet. My dad had Gastric Bypass 4 weeks ago and he is just now able to start eating solids. Good luck to you. If you have any questions, you can email me personally!

    after the operation.....

I was in a lot of pain. I remember waking up in recovery with the oxygen mask on my face and crying for more pain medicine. I don't want to scare you. Everyone is different. I stayed overnight in the hospital. My kids spent three nights with my parents so my husband and I could rest. I couldn't laugh, cry, cough or sneeze for at least 4 days. I wanted to cry but was in to much pain to do it. But a week later, I was able to put my daughter in her carrier in the car. Sore, but much, much better. I gets better every day! But you know what..............IT WAS ALL WORTH IT! This is the best thing I have ever done besides marrying my husband and having my two kiddos! I do not regret it at all!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you won't either! Best of luck to you!

    Sabotaging all the good work

"NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS".............. I love that!!!!! I will always say that to myself!!!!!
  14. I went out to lunch with my husband after my one week appointment. I only ate a little, but it was fine. I was so happy to be able to eat normal things. Now, 6 weeks later, I am able to eat too much, (I think), so I have scheduled my first fill. I am a little nervous about it. But I am a little excited too. I have had great success in a short amount of time. I am anxious for it to continue! Best of luck to you!

    Attack of the Killer PB

Can someone please tell me what is slime and PB? I guess this hasn't happened to me yet!
  18. Tracie D

    Attack of the Killer PB

I hear of bandsters mentioning PB and Slime. What is it? I take it I haven't experienced it!

    Migraines anyone????

Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. That should help. And instead of taking your daughters tylenol, buy the liquid tylenol for adults. It works really fast for me if I need it!
  20. I have had no problem with eggs. I ate them after the first week. I didn't do hard boiled, just scambled. I can eat them anyway now. Just make sure you chew them up really well! Did you have a hard time digesting eggs before your surgery?
  21. Emmy, Don't worry! It has been two weeks for me and I started eating solids after the first week. (My doctor said I could). Anyway, I just make sure that I chew my food to mush. It seems a little gross at first, but I am getting to enjoy any food and still lose the weight. I have lost 15lbs. in two weeks. I was banded on Jan. 11th. I can tell when I have overeaten. I feel alot of pressure. Like the miseralbe fullness I used to get when I pigged out, which was often. A lot of people throw up, I am not going to let myself get there. It hurts to throw up. My body tried to twice the first few days, and ouch!!! I had doubts during my first week because I was so sore. Now, I feel great about it. Just hang in there! Remember, chew to mush and eat slow. It works for me!!!!!!!
  22. Hi. I was banded two weeks ago and paid out of pocket. I am 5'2" and weighed 204. Now weigh 195. So, if you can pay it, and the doctor will do it, go for it! You are like me, not quite a BMI of 40. I was a 38.
  23. Best of luck to you! I was banded 01/11/05. Two weeks ago tomorrow. I lost 9 lbs the first week if that makes you feel a little more excited! Your stomach will be so sore for at least 4 days. Any kiddos? I have a 4 year old and 6 month old. They spent three nights with my parents. I could of never taken care of them. And my husband needed the rest too. I am a side sleeper, so it was really hard to sleep on my back. But, needless to say, two weeks later, I feel great about doing it all!!!!!! I was able to eat normal after one week, so don't overbuy a bunch of liquid stuff. I love the fat free pudding and applesauce. broth tastes so good too! You will definately need a pillow for you stomach. They are going to want you to try and cough as much as you can. Coughing and Sneezing sucked the first week. Try not to get anyone to make you laugh...... My husband would make me laugh at something and it was so hard! Funny, but hard! Ummmmm ask me questions and I will answer. Being a new bandster, all the beginning stuff is fresh in my mind!!!!!
