Spanish to English Translation Sheet
cindysc posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
When I was researching the sleeve. One of the coordinators sent me an email and it had an attachment for spanish to english. It was common phrases that are used in hospital having the gastric sleeve. I lost mine. Does anyone have it and can send it to me or post if on here. Thanks -
Just keep taking small sips. I didn't worry about protein until about 6 days post op. I just kept trying to sip on liquids and broth. Just make sure you don't get dehydrated. It takes time to get used to your new small tummy. It gets easier and better with time. You may even get heartburn . My surgeon allowed me to take Prevacid. Popsicles were great too. Sugar free is best but I was partial to banana. Right after surgery it was what ever I could handle and what made me feel better and staying hydrated. Those of you fixing to be sleeved. You will do fine. It's not painful or it wasn't for me. Except the gas but thats part of it and passes with time. The heating pad was my friend.

Use a heating pad and keep walking. It gets better.

Updates from former Dr. Garcia & Dr. Illan patients?
cindysc replied to Tiff's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery in march of 2013 with Dr.Garcia. I had a fantastic experience with him and staff . I can email him to this day and he will get right back with me. He loves what he does and is good at what he does. -
Jess my cousin had surgery there in March. She had the sleeve and my sister in law had the bypass a couple years ago there. A lady dr did my cousins sleeve and I think dr Scott did the others bypass. They both are doing good. I went to their seminar last dec and they quoted me like $12,500 cash for sleeve. They do the plication too but I recommend the sleeve over that. You have to go to the classes and etc. it's faster if your cash out of pocket but if insurance u gotta go through all the red tape. They are nice people from what I can tell. Plus they have all the protein mixes and vitimins there but I prefer premier protein shakes from SAMs and I take centrum multi vitimins and their cheaper . Not sure if they require u to use their products .

When I first woke up . The nurse was right the beside me. I was amazed I was in my room and in my bed. I figured I would of been woken up in recovery being asked to climb into another bed or something. I knew I could have anything to drink but also knew I had to get up and get walking. So I sat on side of bed for a few and then worked my way out to hall. My gas pain was in my shoulder. So I would lay with heating pad and sleep and walk sleep and walk. I was able to have ice chips which helped a lot. I did dry heave and try to throw up and sat on side of bed and cried. But it didn't last long. The pain was not so bad. They kept me medicated pretty good for a couple days. I stayed at hospital 2 days and hotel 2 more days and flew home with no problems. So You being close to home. You should do great. Just follow your pre op instructions. I know it's scary but so worth it. We are here is you need any help or encouragement. I also had a cousin who was sleeved at hillcrest in march. She went through bariatric solutions on woodruff rd. some lady did her surgery. Good luck!!!

I have heard good things about dr. Alvarez. You will have a good experience. Just remember to walk walk walk and that everyday gets better. I didn't have much pain. The trip was not bad either. The hotels are nice. It's almost like a vacation. When is your surgery scheduled ?? -
I went to bariatric solutions in greenville for a consult a year ago. They wanted $12,500 cash for sleeve. Plus they want you to buy their vitimins and protein shakes.
-
Try some sugar free Popsicles. Your protein shakes count as liquid too. It gets easier. I think a lot of people second guess their decision at first. Just make sure u get enough to keep from being dehydrated. Sip sip all day long!!

Before I decided to go to Mexico. I went to bariatric solutions in greenville. The cash price was $12,500 for the sleeve. You have to go to the classes before surgery and buy there preop shakes and stuff. Classes are included in the price I think. I paid $4700 plus airfare to Mexico but that might be an option for you. I was a little freaked out at the thought at first but honestly think I got better care there than I would have here. I wish insurance would get on board more with weightloss surgeries. -

Recovery was good. It just took some getting used to as far as eating slow and chewing food up. I have lost 65lbs so far. I wish I was a faster loser but I will take it. -

I remember when someone first posted about janitor shooting up pain meds. BUT I thought it was at MI Doctors not Florence. The hospitals are dated a bit. I had my surgery at Florence and had no problems. The staff were sanitary and the rooms were too. I would not have a problem going back. -
I use the premier protein ready to drink shakes from Sams and Costco. They are my favorite. At first I just made sure I got two shakes down a day and sips throughout day. I didn't get my daily requirements but just took baby steps And made sure I didn't get dehydrated. I am 5 months out and still have to do a shake to get my protein in. I tried getting it with food but it was hard. I finally felt normal at probably 3 months. When u can ad solids just be sure to take small bites and chew really well or u will be uncomfortable and have to bring it back up( slimmys) . It was hard to sit down and eat meal cause I ate to fast. So I would take bites here and there. It helped a lot. My friend was mashed potatoes. I know You probably feel like your hungry cause ur stomach will not hush and I craved the taste of food. So I would take a few bites of what I cooked for family and chew it and get the flavor and spit back out. First few months were all about just surviving and getting used to my sleeve.

Dr Garcia self pay Mexico
cindysc replied to Wendim's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You get three nights in Marriott and two in hospital. I have seen some have same day surgery that they flew in on. Some want to get back home as soon as possible. It was not a problem traveling after surgery. I had a 5 hour flight. They plan and take care of it all except air travel. They have it all planned out for you for a really smooth process. -

Feeling yucky, lack protein
cindysc replied to cookiebun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you cookie. I am 10 weeks out too. I can't seem to get enough food in . I was trying to get my protein from food but its not working out. I finally went and got some shakes to make myself get more protein in. It's very important to get protein. I asked on a forum and they said if we don't get enough our body will start taking it from muscle. It can effect your organs too. So I decided I better get on the stick. I hate the way I feel when I eat sometimes . -
