Hi Anniemay! I'm stuck in cold...windy upstate NY near Utica! When the doc told me that I was good to start....I quit smoking then and there. I finally have hope and something to reach for! I so want to do normal stuff with my girls....and just be healthy! -

Hi ladies! I started to gain like crazy after my second pregnancy I've tried so many different diet plans and lost the same 10-20 # over and over. I've been thinking about WLS for almost 3 years, but had lots of reasons why it was not a good idea. Finally this winter my two girls went skiing with their Dad while I got to sit like a lump in the lodge for 5 hours.....big, sad sigh. At 47....the time has come to end this! I want to feel good, be healthy and do things with my girls before its too late. I am blessed to have my husband's insurance so it was easy to meet their criteria. So far, my surgery is scheduled for May 20th. I still have to meet with psych and the Nut. I can't wait!!!! :-) -
Max206, are you still around? I'm there too? Did you end up having the sleeve? I finally have a date but was wondering who you went to?

Hi Annie! I'm fairly new too. I don't even get to meet with the surgeon until March 6th :-( Sad to say....I was a skinny little kid but after 2 wonderful kids and time I ended up over 100# more than I should be. Welcome and keep in touch with us all. It seems like a very welcoming bunch of folks :-) -
I have only told my husband so far. I am a nurse in a doctor's office and you wouldn't believe how my coworkers act towards the patients who have had gastric surgery done. Very catty...nasty comments, etc. I really don't want to tell any of them, but my absence will be noticed as we are not that big. Funny though...with each passing day...I care less. I'm a very personal person though and just wish I could disappear fora few weeks :\

Hi everyone!!!! Can't believe I found a nurses forum :-) My name is Dorothy. I'm from upstate NY (near Utica). I've been an RN for 18 years having worked ICU and corporate jobs for most. I currently work as a pediatric nurse :-)...love it! After having two girls later in life....just couldn't loose the weight and ended up gaining more. It's taking me a couple years, but I have my initial consult with my surgeon next month. I long to hike...ski...and just fit in amusement park ride with my 8 and 10 year olds. I just can't wait to start a new, healthy life. -

Congratulations!!!! I thought of going to Syracuse, but I hate to have the 1 hour commute back and forth. Did you have any problems post-op? Was it hard to get your insurance to cover the procedure?
