    Aetna Insurance

Aetna required me to have 4 consecutive months visiting Gastric doctor ( no breaks 4 months straight), 1 psychiatric evaluation and 1 nutritional evaluation. I completed all the requirements within the 4 months and after submitting paperwork to Aetna I received approval in 9 days and just had my surgery January 28. My group insurance with Aetna became effective August 2012. I was 268 at 5'4 with sleep apnea and knee problems. I had no other medical issues and I was approved. Good luck and all I can say is follow their request and look forward to your approval. The waiting period help me to adjust my lifestyle to the new eating habits. So use that time to mentally prepare for your life long change. Joke between me and my sons is if it was easy we wouldn't need surgery. I was shocked at the some of the foods i was learning to wean myself off of prior to surgery was difficult.

    Iv Site

Some people have bloating veins as they call it. After 4 different IV sites and I started the swollen again I refused IV treatment and the nurse had to call me doctor who gave me liquid antibiotics by mouth. Remember as a patience you are legally allowed to refuse any treatment if it is causing problems. I refused mine and the doctor found an alternative method. This is not uncommon that some can not handle IVs for more than 6-10 hours.
  4. Hello all. I originally posted in the pre-op section of the forum as I am a patience who had to go through this procedure alone with just family support by telephone. Well here is my update. My surgery was Jan 23. I had a Hernia repair also but was still discharged in 2 days. I been able to drink all the Clear liquids on the allowed list. Water, chicken broth with Protein powder, Jello & popsicles. So far I been able to take in about 40-48 oz of liquids I have all my Vitamins and Pro-Stat protein liquid and so far I am able to take everything in without any problems. My only complaint is the gas. I found sitting in my recliner chair has provided me more comfort rather than lay in bed. I am taking Gas X Strips and I place a heating pad on my lower back and it has help released the gas pressure. I started out at 268 pounds. I was able to walk in the hospital and I am moving at home. It definitely takes a strong mental mindset to get through this alone especially when its time for me to give myself the injections. But I am so happy I had the surgery and I am doing this for my health and mental well being I refuse to not succeed. Good luck to you all. I had my surgery with Dr Wiljon Beltre in the Orlando area.

    surgery 1/28/13

I walked the hospital, took Gas X Strips, and I place a heating pad on my lower back. That seem to relieve my gas pressure and help me to release it. Good luck

    January 2013 Sleevers?

My surgery was Jan 23. I had a Hernia repair also but was still discharged in 2 days. I am going through this alone due to family live out of town but have many checking on me. So far I been one who been successful so far. I been able to drink all the clear liquids I am allowed. Water, broth with protein, jello & popsicles and I been able to take in about 40-48 oz so far without any problems. I found sitting in my recliner chair has provided me more comfort rather than lay in bed. 11. I am going through this surgery alone. The couple family members I have live out of state and no is able to be here with me. I didn't want to postpone the surgery. I have purchased all my liquid foods, vitamins and protein for a 3 week supply and placed everything by my bed. I am a little nervous as it seems everyone I know who had the surgery had someone with them. I recently moved out of state with my job and haven't met any friends here. I hope I am not putting myself at risk. I work from home so at least I don't have to worry about work and I can rest. Any advice or pointers to help me?
  12. Thanks everyone. I had my surgery this morning I am in good spirits and mental strong. I been to move around, walked around my room and going to the restroom without much assistance. I'm comfortable and feeling well. I was able to get a private room which I love. The staff knew I was alone and the nurses have gone out of their way to make sure I don't feel alone. This forum has helped me and I'm glad I found it. Thanks again!!!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

    January 28 is my date.
  18. Thanks proudgrammy. I have dual medical coverage and both pay will pay for the procedure. My doctor was able to arrange for me to have a 3 day hospital stay in a private room. He requested the 3rd day because I am alone hoping by the time I am released I will be okay. Thanks for your words of encouragement
  19. WOW Popsicle your story sounds like mine! It is times like these that I realize how alone I am in life. I did call a couple sitting agency and wasn't to successful with just arranging 24 hour care. Not sure if it was just my bad luck, I even tried a site called Care.com. I have the resources to pay someone. It was last minute notice I received the approval on the Jan 11 & insurance company required surgery on Jan 28. Everyone is aware I am having surgery.
  20. Thanks everyone. I been so nervous. I am taking a taxi to the hospital but have been lucky enough that I do have a ride home. I wasn't expecting such a fast response from my insurance company. They sent the approval Jan 11 and said I needed to have the surgery Jan 28. I have gone through knee surgery alone and I was able to manage well. I thank you all for your encouragement. It is hard when you have a small family and they all live out of town. This the time I had a big family or knew a lot of people. Working from home makes it hard. Wish you all success with your surgery!
