    1 more week!

I will be right there with you. Having mine the same day. My mind is going a thousand miles a minute! If only that would burn calories! lol! Best of luck to you!
  2. Starting day 6 of my pre-op diet. My Dr. has me on combination of 5 Protein bars or shakes and 5 oz meat and 2 cups veggies. Not a fan of the bars. Only use them when I can't be around a shake. Thinking this is going to be a plus for me going into post op. We have to leave tomorrow for 5 days due to a death in his family. I know that I am going to have to rely on the bars while traveling and I imagine quite a bit over the next 5 days. Any suggestions on getting the biggest amount of protein and a good taste? I need to make sure that I am prepared for the next 5 days. Nothing is going to stop me from going off this pre-op diet for even one bite. My plan is to take my little blender with so I have at least my morning shake in the hotel. I will have access to ice in the hotel. After that, I can't guarantee that I will be able to get a shake. I will buy some there but they really need them to be ice cold for me to get them down. Will also get a case of Water and taking a soft sided small cooler to keep in our rental for water so that I will AWAYS have it. That is going to be key to success. What am I forgetting? Any advice on the bars would be mucho appreciated.
  3. I'm thinking that qualifies at a protein shake!

    I'm not telling.

I was actually commenting on several posts. Sorry if I didn't communicate my thought better. No harm intended. Someone else used the anyone that will listen but what I what I was trying to get at is that several posters who chose to tell lots of folks seem to like to use the term "I'm not ashamed" as though those who chose not to share are and I don't think that is the case for most. You are so right when you say everyone should do what they want. There really is no right or wrong answer just different opinions and that is what we are here to share. I find it very helpful and informative to see so many different opinions, including yours. All of us here are on the same journey, just taking different paths.

    February Sleevers

I guess I'm lucky, I am on the 20th. 2 week pre-op is 5 shake/protein bars and one 5 oz meat and 2 cups veggies. I'm splitting the meals in two so I don't eat a lot at once. Can't wait to be on the sleeved side and get on with things!

    February Sleevers

I have big container coming. the reviews were good. I'm thinking by the time I'm post op and on clear liquids that might be looking pretty darn tasty! Thinking positive!

    I'm not telling.

That is great for you! Everyone needs to do what is best for them. Be it tell no one, a few or the world. Telling the world doesn't mean you're in anyone's face about it. Telling no one in no way means you are ashamed. Everyone is different and every journey is different.

    I'm not telling.

Why does not telling everyone who will listen equal being ashamed? Just asking...
  11. What a sweet hubby to be so supportive!
  12. Congrats to you! I can only imagine how good it must have felt to release the emotions that have built up for so long! You will do great and I'm sure you will be lifting those sweet little ones in your arms soon! Keep us posted!

    Self Pay Questions!

There is no right or wrong answer here. One thing I am quite sure of though, is that no one here is making decisions lightly. This is a very important decision and whichever one you make is surely the right one based on your circumstances and financial situation. If you are lucky enough to have it covered by insurance, I high five you! For most of the rank and file whose policies have the exclusion, everyone has to make the tough decisions. I am lucky to live in the Dallas area, lots of great Dr.s to choose from and not anywhere near the 20k that some folks have to shell out for this. So for me, I will stay local because it's the best decision for ME. As for others who are traveling, you are not crazy for having it done elsewhere, you are making the decision that is best for YOU! You don't need to defend your decision. And quite frankly, I find some of the negative comments rather rude. We are here to support one another, not undermine one another. Can't we all just get along? Our journeys don't always include the same path...just sayin....

    I'm not telling.

Then you should go shout it it from the rooftops. I, for one will applaud you and encourage you! However, just because not everyone takes that approach, it doesn't make them a phony or ashamed. Some of us simply happen to think it's no one else's business. Plain and simple. Every one's journey is different and should take the approach that is best for them. Good luck to you. Good luck to us all!

    I'm not telling.

The only person who knows right now is my husband. I plan to keep it that way. This is my journey and I need to take the way I think is right for me. May have to tell our son as he is moving back in with us for a year so he can finish up his degree. I am not telling anyone simply for the fact is is none of their business. Yes, people will ask why I am eating so little and all sorts of things. I just say I'm dieting. I've tried everything so people who know me know I'm just dieting again. My brother had bypass a few years ago. He needed it, it worked for him because he did the work for it. The family is proud of him but everytime he is going to be around, everyone starts getting concerned if we should put this out or that out so it doesn't tempt him. I tell them he has to be responsible for what he eats and is capable of making it. I just don't want that. I have alway been a private person and just don't feel the need to answer questions that are personal. Just because someone asks, doesn't mean I have to answer. I just say I'm dieting this way for the moment and change the subject. If they question further, I say the same thing and change the subject. Same as when I would diet, would get the how much weight have you lost? I guess it's a normal curious question but I just don't feel comfortable talking about it. If it's been a 20 or more pounds I'll just says something like, thank you, I've lost a good clip and change the subject. I've people say good, but how much, next answer is not as much as I would like to have by now. Change the subject. That is the end of my good graces. After that, if asked again, I say It's personal for me and don't wish to discuss it. Never had anyone go further than that. Just remember, it's your journey and you don't owe anyone any explainations or have to defend your your choice. I am finally finding my backbone behind all the chubbiness.
  16. Won't bump into me there but maybe at Dr. Nicholson's office. I am on the 20th but Forest Park in Frisco. May not make us sleeve sisters but maybe cousins? lol! Good luck to you, I think Dr. Nicholson is very good Dr. and we are in good hands!

    Need advice....Pre-Op diet

I would say don't share with those you are not ready to share with. This is a very personal journey and you don't need to explain or defend. If you want to make it easy, just say you are dieting that you are having digestive issues and just change the subject. I know trying to be polite and thinking that we need to answer every personal question that people ask but this is your journey and you need to make as easy for you as you can. I will be doing the same thing in a few days, my husband's sister passed away suddenly yesterday and we will be traveling to the service. We will be around family for a few days and I will have what I need to and and say that is what I need right now. Period. I will smile and be polite but will not be pressured into sharing things that I don't want to. My surgery is on the 20th. We will be coming home 3 days before. Good luck to you. You will know what is right for you.
  18. Best wishes and success to you. You will succeed! Your attitude is is great!

    Self Pay Questions!

Our health insurance has an exclusion on WLS as well so I am self pay. I live the Dallas area. My Dr. charges $12,200. Includes everything. Also includes dietitian, labs and follow ups for as long as you want. For me personally, Mexico was not something I wanted to do and my husband soundly rejected it. One reason is the follow up. Once I come home, I won't see that Dr. again. I like the fact that my Dr. is local and I have access to him should I need it. That is just our personal choice but everyone is different. Looking at other Dr.'s in the area, his price is with 1k different higher or lower than most of the Dr.'s here. You will know what is right for you come decision time and that is the most important opinion of all. :-)

    February Sleevers

Start my pre-op diet tomorrow. Surgery on the 20th. So ready to get the journey started!
  24. I really don't need to defend my Dr. with you. But really, as you are so experienced, I feel SO much better with your recommendation that I follow my Dr. instead of you! You know, for a moderator who is supposed to be a supportive person, you really are an ass!
