Any March Sleevers?
newat52 replied to futuresleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I am pleased with the amount of food I am getting. I set my timer and make sure to eat at 3 hour intervals. I do have an advantage though. I am an empty nester and am retired so I have the time to focus on me. I have been able to make myself the priority and don't have the pressure or responsibility to take care of everyone else. I admire you balancing this and little ones! If I take away the nectar, it comes to about 600 calories per day. I'm walking 2-3 miles per day, split in two. Going to start the gym at 6 weeks. Will meet with the NUT again at 6 weeks so will see what comes then. Just try to get in a bit more each day and it will come in time. I have also been very lucky to have had a very easy surgery and recovery. One night in hospital and no nausea or trouble keeping things down from the start so that probably gave me some strength early on. (knock on wood) Helped me get out walking sooner and getting those liquids and protein in sooner. That helps with the healing process inside and out. Good luck, you can do it! -
Any March Sleevers?
newat52 replied to futuresleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure. I start drinking water first thing. Have always had a glass of water before coffee so that has not changed. I have protein shake for breakfast. Take my whats left of my coffee and half a cup of skim milk, a few ice cubes and scoop of chocolate protein powder for a Mocha shake. 180 cal. 24 grams of protein. Or half a small banana, half cup of skim and vanilla protein powder for a shake. 200 cal. 31 grams of protein. Lunch has been 1/4 cup of canned salmon or canned chicken with 1/4 cup of spinach. about 70 cal. 13 grams of protein. Snack is 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. 7 grams of protein and 40 cal. dinner is same as lunch with either the spinach or 1/4 cup of refried beans for the fiber. have an premier protein shake before bed 160 cal and 30 grams of protein. In the Afternoon sip on a nectar strawberry/kiwi protein has 100 calories and 24 grams of protein. Comes out to around 700 calories and over 100 grams of protein. Thinking I'm going to cut back on the strawberry nectar as I am well over my protein needs and just use it if I am on the go and can't get my meals in. I just started on soft foods last Thursday so I am still introducing new foods. So far, have not run across anything that has not agreed with me and have not experienced that I've eaten too much feeling. I measure my food and stop after 30 minutes even if I am not done. Also have made some sugar free chocolate pudding spiked with unflavored protein. Have had a couple but not finished the batch yet. That is about 70 cal. and 24 grams of protein per serving. I drink water all day except 20 before and during and 20 minutes after eating so getting my water in is a full time job but it's coming easily. On this stage till April 17th then will be on reg foods. Hope this helps. -
march sleevers the good and the bad

My Dr. calls for 3 weeks of liquids too. First week is clear liquids and thin protein shakes. Second and third week is full liquids. Really could only add strained creamed Soups and those had to be thin enough to go through a strainer easily. Was sleeved on the 6th and only started soft foods on Thursday. It's been great. The last week of liquids was hard because I would come in here and read what people were eating already and had surgery after me. But....It was worth the wait and I have had no adverse reactions to foods yet. It feels like my tummy is ready for it and not making it eat something its not ready for. So I am glad I waited. It's hard but totally worth it! Hang in there, it's coming soon! -

Thanks! Will try the ginger tea! Also going to call the Dr. and see if I can start eating a prune each day. And the coffee did help this morning. Was the first time I have gone 2 days in a row! And the coffee was just SOOOO goood! -
Glad you are ok! Get some good rest tonight and hope you are feeling much better tomorrow.

Liquids are so important right now. You can't get better if you are dehydrated. If you can't sip much, try ice chips in between. They helped me so much. Some folks don't like the cold, but warm tea works for them. If you can do warm, put some unflavored Protein powder such as unjury in it. You can try sipping in Isopure. It's on the Clear Liquids, the grape is good but they have lots of flavors, similar tasting to G2. Counts as liquids and protein. Every oz of Isopure has 2 grams of protein! Also, nectar has a very light tasting drink that is loaded with protein, tastes just like Crystal light. While getting liquids is the most important thing, the more protein you can get at this stage will help so much with healing and energy. Also, if you need to sleep or rest. DO IT! You have just been through a major surgery and your body needs the rest. Try to listen to your body, it won't steer you wrong. Trying to get your liquids and protein is a full time job at this stage but worth the effort. Other thing you need to know is: it will get better, After about 10 days or so you will be feeling so much better! Hang in there!

Any March Sleevers?
newat52 replied to futuresleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 6th of March so I guess that makes me a March "big sister". Don't let the constipation sneak up on you. I didn't think much about till about 5 day post op thinking liquid in, liquid out. WRONG!!!! If you are released with the instruction to get in Liquid Protein you will need to poop. For me, surgery was a breeze. One night in the hospital, no nausea, no problem with liquids so I was rocking the protein from the get go. Was getting in about 32 oz of Water one day post op and went up considerably from there. Currently, getting about 80 oz of water each day. Taking in lots of protein without any Fiber whatsoever is a BM disaster waiting to happen. It took MOM, stool softeners and a suppository to get things going. All I'm gonna say is my 9 pound baby didn't hurt nearly as much! I couldn't sit on my bum for a whole day after. Constipation has been far and away my biggest issue and continues to be. My Dr's plan was liquids for 3 weeks and then on to soft foods. Started them on Thursday so I am trying to get as much fiber as I can but protein comes first. I am currently taking MOM, stool softeners, benefiber daily and it's still not pretty. This is my experience, some have this issue and some have the opposite but I'm just here to say don't be fooled by the liquid in liquid out theory. Protein makes a lot of poop! I am going to call the Dr. tomorrow and see if I can incorporate a prune each day into my diet. Good luck all my fellow March sleevers! Hope it all comes out in the end. haha! -
12 days post op- should i be worried
newat52 replied to rubyshoes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The b12 should help. I am almost 53 and was sleeved on the 6th of March. Listen to your body. Rest when you need to. -
Are you ok?
-
Love it! It also happens to be the truth!
-
Looking great! Keep up the good work!
-
Keep sipping Water to work it out. Your new tiny tummy is just not ready for that dense kind of Protein yet. Listen to it and keep with your Dr.'s diet. It's in place for a reason. Good luck!

newat52 replied to thriving1726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on the 6th. My surgery and recovery have been amazingly easy. Spent one night in the hospital. Never had nausea or vomiting. Getting over 80 grams of protein a day and easily 80 oz of liquids. Was on liquids for 3 weeks so this is my 3rd day of soft foods. I am feeling like a million bucks! Never knew a quarter cup of cottage cheese or canned salmon could taste so good! Never hungry and have not had a bad experience with my sleeve yet. (knock on wood) My only complaint is really bad constipation. Taking benefiber, stool softeners and MOM and it's still an issue! -
Post op march sleevers
newat52 replied to gelen's_change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A stall is typical at about 3 weeks. Your body needs time to catch up. Keep following what your Dr. said. You may be losing inches. If you look through the site you will find hundreds of posts about a 3 week stall. It will come off. Good luck! -
Hope all is well. Keep us posted. Sending a prayer your way!

Congrats! Walk and sip! Speedy recovery! -
Have you tried Isopure protein drinks? They are along the lines of Gatorade or Crystal light. All sorts of flavors and each oz has 2 grams of protein. One 20 oz bottle can give you half of your protein right now. I find the Grape the best for me.
-
Yep. Some days are like that. It blows but tomorrow is another day. I had a pity party or two after as well. You are not alone. Tomorrow will be better. P.S. Get your ass moving on the protein and water. (Sorry, it's the mom in me.)

8 Months out and still feeling like I'm not worthy of my success!
newat52 replied to Changing B4YourEyes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations! You are so worthy of every bit of joy and health that you have worked so hard for. It is hard for women, I think. Not sure if it's harder on women since I don't have the male perspective. The fact is men are judged on what they do, women, for the most part are judged on how they look. It's a hard thing to get over. I mean, how many times are you in the mens dept. with hubby and some other man is looking at what size and what they carry in to the fitting rooms? Never is my guess. How many times do you see other women looking at how far back on the rack you go to get to the larger sizes? Or some b***h walking through the women's section and say at the top of her lungs "Oh! Didn't know I was in the fat dept.! Yeah, right. My point is, we need to be happy with ourselves and that is a pretty tall order when all our lives there have been the jolly band of mean people telling us how terrible we are for being overweight. It's a battle we need to win within ourselves! You are doing great and don't let anyone, including yourself tell you otherwise! -
One Day Post-op...GAINED 12#!
newat52 replied to mwrarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will fall off in the next few days. I came home the day after and stepped on the scale and was up 8#. took about 3 days for it all to come off but it does fast. Don't worry about it at all. It is not an issue at all. You just had major surgery and your body needs to heal. Focus on getting you fluids and protein in. -

Post op march sleevers
newat52 replied to gelen's_change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Melinda, Try the Isopure drinks. 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of protien. It's considered clear liquid and goes down easier then the shakes at this point. They were and still are my saving grace. With one of those puppies per day usually over 80 grams of protein a day and it really, really helps with the healing process! Good luck! -
