Pain meds after surgery ?
newat52 replied to Nevermind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Weather people have their surgery in the states or Mexcio I think is a personal choice of comfort. What concerns me is that the surgeon blankets what they will give you. I would think a surgeon would take each patient into account. I did fine with post op pain but I was comforted by the fact the my surgeon prescribed several levels of meds. I did not need most of them but they were at my disposal. Based on your concern, I would want to know that if that did not work, something else would be available. I would want to stay ahead of the pain, not chase it. I hope this helps. -
The only thing I don't LOVE about my sleeve...
newat52 replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Could to agree more! I am freezing ALL the time! I sit under a heated throw all the time and wear cuddle duds. Can't even think about getting into the pool unless its at least 88 degrees. Didn't take the electric blanket off the bed till June and it was back on in Sept. That said, I'll take it! Life is so great! -
What Did You Have To Take for your Hospital Stay?
newat52 replied to SnowDaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What are paper panties? Was wondering the same thing! lol! I took a robe and slippers, 2 tubes of chapstick and toothbrush and hair brush. didn't need anything more. I tend to pack light. I can pack for a 10 day trip in small carry on. -
OMG sitting here waiting on driver from OCC HE'S ALMOST 2 hours late!
newat52 replied to nolagirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Sorry this is happening. Yes, that can happen at the boarder but for the service you are paying for, they should be making sure they are there 30 minutes before you! Even if it means leaving 2 hours earlier. No excuse for that. -
I eat at McDonalds all the time. Just because I eat there doesn't mean I am not eating healthy. I have the grilled chicken caesar salad. I know exactly what is in there. There will be 3 oz of grilled chicken. There will be .5 oz of parmesan cheese. There will be 4 cherry tomatoes. Not a thing wrong with that. Can find similar things at Wendy's or any other fast food. It's actually a great go to when I'm out and have not had time to plan better. Lots of sleevers utilize the fast food tool. Don't knock it till you know the facts. There may come a day when I crave a McDonalds cheese burger. If that happens, I will go have it. (or part of it) Not a thing wrong with it unless it becomes an everyday thing. I one of those with a sleeve of steel. I CAN eat anything. There is not a thing I have tried to eat with an adverse reaction. In the 10 months since I have been sleeved, I have not vomited, slimed, dumped or any other ailments that many folks have experienced. The sleeve restricts the amount but not the type of food you can eat. What you eat is up to you. Most successful sleevers do indulge from time to time. It's called real life. Just because I can eat whatever I want, doesn't mean I do all the time. I do on occasion. The hard work begins the further out you are. We all followed our surgeons and NUT instructions in the months post op. That was the easy part. You will find that out. I'll be curious to know your thoughts about then. Good luck to you.

Scared to be a failure...yet again...
newat52 replied to hmjdreamingbig's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, fear of failing scares the crap out of us. Have we not all failed over and over again on every diet known to man? Yes. That is the truth. We all go into this hoping that we will succeed but fearing the fail. Again. After surgery, little by little by little, thoughts of success starting creeping in more than assurance of failure. Say what? What the heck is this success thing? What is this total commitment thing? I have a collar bone? Hip bones? I can say no to crap that just makes me fat? Yes. Is it hard. Hell yes! Is it worth it? Bigger Hell yes! If you are ready, the sleeve is an amazing tool to help us succeed! You can do this. You are not alone! Best of luck to you! -
Then call me a liar. I was not even tempted to eat anything that was not on plan. My surgeon had me on liquids for 3 weeks then on to very soft food. Most people follow the plan to the T in the first few months after surgery.

Yes. You will find posts like that all the time. It never ends well. It's dangerous, stupid and just foolhardy to do. Is whatever the temptation is worth causing a possible leak? Your stomach is still healing and you can cause major damage to it upto and including death. Best case, most people reported it hurt like hell and they puked all over the place and generally felt like **** for the next few hours. If you haven't done it, don't. If you have, don't do it again. Don't mean to sound preachy but that would just be a dangerous thing to do!

Coming to terms with self pay.
newat52 replied to kim137's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand how you feel. My insurance has the exclusion as well. My only option was self pay or stay fat and un healthy. I was heavy all while my boys were growing up. All of my teen and adult life actually. My surgery was $12,200 sell pay price. That is a lot of money. I had wanted to do it for so long but took me awhile to bring it up with my husband. To spend that kind of money on myself is just something i was uncomfortable doing. I did finally bring it up with my husband and he was so supportive. I shutter to think how much I have spent on diets over the years. I'm sure much more than I paid for the surgery. Fast forward, I had my surgery on March 6th, 2013. The best health decision I have ever made! I am healthy almost a not even overweight BMI! My blood pressure is normal, all my bloodwork is normal. Everything. I only wish I could have done this at your age. I promise you that if you be just a bit selfish now with this you will have so much more to give your family later. You will be giving them a happy, healthy mom, wife and person. It will be the best health decision you could ever make Best money I have spent. My husband can not believe the change in me. He tells me how glad he is that I did this for me. He loves me as I am and always has. He is tickled that I am so happy and successful for me. A bargain at twice the price! Go for it! -
I like Unjury protein powder but used the Isopure drinks early out when I was on liquids for the first 3 weeks.

In addition to the OTC treatments, try this. I know it sounds gross but that what my Dr. recommended over 30 years ago before all the treatments became available. Douche with Acidophilus milk. Warm it the microwave just enough to take the chill off otherwise you'll end up on the ceiling from the cold. Like I said, I know it sounds gross but it works!

Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?
newat52 replied to HotButterFly's topic in Rants & Raves
First of all, ANYONE who has been sleeved can attest to the fact that this is NOT, I repeat NOT the easy way out. It is only a tool to work with. What you do with it is up to you. So you can tell him that first. Secondly, even if it were the easy way out, and it's not but if it were, SO WHAT? Is driving your car to the store the easy way out? I mean you can walk. Driving is just easier. Is using your stove the easy way out? You can build a fire and cook that way? I think that is one of the most stupid things we hear from people. Great for you in your resolve to improve your health and not let anyone or thing stop you. Your boyfriend needs to learn not to say stupid things. Period. If this surgery changes your relationship with him for the worse, then so be it. If he can't get on board with your improving health, then you should shed 200# of boyfriend. There will be one out there that is so much better. -

I'm having trouble getting a protein source I like. HELP! !
newat52 replied to hpendleton0126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can mix the isopure with Water, power aid zero, Crystal light or tea to make it taste better but really try because that stuff is Protein gold. I also used to make sugar free pudding and blend injury plain Protein Powder into it. Tastes great and was about 17 grams of protein per serving. -

1~ Constipation. It's real and if it gets out of hand, it can be ugly. 2~ Freezing ALL the time. 3~ How great I feel. Yes, people told me but I'm a level of feeling great that no one could have explained it to me fully. I never expected it would feel THIS great! Good luck. You will love your sleeve! -

That's what Mr. Ven said! LMAO! That was the thought that went through my naughty little pea brain! -
Have Market Street near me! Will be pitty patting my recently sized 8/10 butt down there today. They will be perfect with our anniversary filet mignon and really nice bottle of wine. 34 years deserves the best! There will be no guilt involved tonight for such indulges!

No worries about a setback but dang! Why didn't you save me some? Now you have me craving them! Veggies are da' bomb!

Oh, thats rough. I Coughing hurt like a son of a gun post op. I pray you don't have to sneeze. I think those are fine. As long as it doesn't have and NSAID in it. Feel better!

Do what works best for you! That is the most important thing. I was self pay in the states. Had mine done in Dallas. $12,200 all inclusive with a top surgeon. That was what was right for me. Do what is right for you. You will know when you feel it. So glad you are taking this step. It is AWESOME! No regrets. Bargain at twice the price! Life is so much better! Good luck to you!
