    Old Habits Die Hard...

Sorry to hear that Nicole. Hope you feel better. You're having this problem because of the whole straw thing, right?

    How will this be different?

I guess the lady who got her insurance to bend was lucky. My insurance has the same exclusions. No exceptions. Not covered. I even got 2 of "seen them on tv, we can get your insurance to pay" dr's and no go. Excluded. I live and had my surgery in Dallas. There are lots of top bariatric surgeons in the area. The average price is $11-13k, all inscusive in this area. Mine was $12,200. Out the door, pre op testiing, hospital, OR, the whole shebang. It can be very affordable stateside if your husband is of that mindset. That was the choice my husband and I made. We are very happy with it. That said, you will find many folks here who have traveled to Mexico and paid far less. They seem very happy with their choice as well. You say your hubby won't hear of Mexico but there are many good stateside options as well. Good luck, sounds like he will be a hard sell. p.s. I've been married for well over 30 years to the same guy. Sometimes, it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. Just sayin.....

    Temperamental Sleeves

I Think you just need to be a bit more patient. You most likely will be able to eat most anything but give it time. I'm almost 8 weeks now and things are improving everyday. I am not rushing things though, baby steps. Perhaps you are eating to fast or you are taking big bites? Just throwing out thoughts to help you through.
  4. Oh, but you will be! And before you know it! You're gonna love it!
  5. I'm about to hit 40 including pre-op. Almost half way there!
  6. Try the Isopure Protein drinks. Its considered a clear liquid and 2 oz of protein per oz. Tastes similar to Gatorade. nectar Protein Drinks are good too, very light tasting but they look cloudy and you have to keep shaking them so the protein doesen't settle on the bottom. Can you sugarfree pudding yet? If you can, 1 1/4 cup skim milk, add unflavored or chocolate, or even vanilla for that matter Protein powder , throw in the blender and mix it, add your chocolate sugarfree (or whatever flavor) pudding mix an blend it for a few seconds. I make two servings. If you do one scoop of protein powder it gives you about 15 grams of protein, if you use two, it ill give you about 25. It's just something different and gets your protien in, very important in these early weeks. Helps so much with healing. Hang in there, you can do this!
  7. That is awesome! Keep up the great work!
  8. It is hard but you will do great! Hang in there and everyday that goes by will get better. BTW: An emotional breakdown towards the end of the first week is normal. I had one, and then come to find out lots and lots of folks have. Probably the surgery drugs and the reality of the situation. It will get better. Almost 8 weeks out now and loving my sleeve and loving life!

    Failing

So sorry you are going through that. Perhaps try and go back to the beginning and try a couple days of shakes and then start slowly to try and get some of the bad, processed carbs out of your system. I'm only guessing at what I might do in the same situation. I am just 7 weeks out and I realize the real work is just beginning and I know struggles and trials lay ahead. I wish you the best of luck!

6 weeks post-op ... what did YOU eat?

I was released of dietary restriction at 6 weeks. I have been adding foods slowly. Not in a big hurry to eat everything. Working on making sure the good, dense Proteins are doing ok. Like grilled chicken and fish. have had a beef hamburger on the grill. Working on grilled veggies. Have not tried bread or rice or potatoes. I have not had any refined sugar or white processed flour since Jan. and not craving it so going to stay away for a while. Next up is fresh fruits and work up to salad. I am just taking it slow and so far not having issues. Good luck!

    in need of new shoes

If I can't wiggle my toes, I feel like I am suffocating. Seriously. It's weird. Might be why I have to have one foot sticking out of the blanket at night. You are not the only weirdo!
  15. LMAO! Funny cuz it's true! The big C has was far and away my most challenging aspect of life in the month after being sleeved. There were times it was not pretty, not fun and hurt like a son of a gun! Tears, swear words I didn't know I knew! MOM has it place and yes, it tastes nasty as sin but sometimes a sleever has to do what a sleever has to do. Good luck to you, hope everything comes out in the end! :-)

    "I'm praying for you!"

I am not an atheist but I do have friends that are. I kind of liken it to politics. You have your far left and your far right and sometimes they say something to the other person just to get their goat and sometimes it's just something that seems like the normal thing to say. I have always kept my religious beliefs to myself and I feel strongly that my relationship with God is between him and me and that converting people is not right. I'm sure there are people in your life that if they tell you enough you will change your evil ways (their perception) and I'm sure there are people that it just seems natural to them and they are just doing what they can do to help in their opinion. How to tell one from the other is a whole other subject. Not sure this was helpful but good luck with your surgery and you will be so happy do you did it!
  17. Yes, hang in there. It's not a fun time right now but it will get better and you will be so glad you did this. Just not today. In a few weeks time, you will be amazed!

I love them! I have seen that you can get them personalized. I am getting ready to order one for my daughter in law's law firm. I hope she will like it.

    HERE IT GOES...

Further in your (our) defense, I don't think we were making fun of using a straw making the poor girl gain 50 pounds, we were making fun some someone actually BELIEVING that's what caused the weight gain. I mean, come on, if you believe that, I've got some pacific ocean view property for sale here in Texas. Come on folks, let's lighten up a little. Its good. It's all good.

    HERE IT GOES...

I'm sorry if you took it that way. No one was making fun of someone suffering from drinking from a straw. In fact, no one mentioned suffering from it until you. I'm sorry that drinking from a straw makes things worse for you. What we were doing was making light of the different advice from different Surgeons. We have all the the exact SAME surgery. We have all got DIFFERENT orders and advice from our surgeons and NUT's. Sometimes you just have to use some common sense and figure out what is best for you. Surely you must understand that some of the advice given to patients is based on a number of things, facts, opinions, serving the lowest common denominator and finally, covering their backsides. Otherwise, we would all have the same orders for the same amount of time. For me, mine falls towards the conservative side so it was no fun for me hearing of new sleevers coming home from the hospital eating pudding, Jello and egg when I was on liquids for 3 weeks. This is a serious surgery but nowhere does is say that one must lose all sense of humor with the weight. Please do follow your surgeon's advice. I am following mine but it doesn't make one wrong to not follow YOUR surgeon's advice. Again, sorry if you thought we were making fun of someone's suffering. If that was the case, I am duly shamed.
  24. Awesome! I'm sure you feel as great as you look! I SO want those red sneakers! LOVE them!
  25. I actually gained 8 pounds from the surgery, all fluids from the IV's of course. It is typical. Give it few days and the Water will come off and you will start losing. For me, seemed like it came off about 2 pounds a day or so for the few 4-5 days. If I had it to do over again, I would have not stepped on the scale for a week. Then only once per week. Gives the mind and body a better time to heal. Best of luck to you new sleevers. In a couple of weeks when you are feeling better, your life is going to get awesome! :)
