Did you keep your surgery a secret?
newat52 replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting your sleeve! I think it is a very personal decision to tell or not tell and you must do what is best for you and you alone. As long as your job is physical, you will probably do fine. I had been told by many that for the best chance of easy recovery plan a bit ahead. I was advised to start exercising, I walked a few miles each day a few weeks before to build up strength and as you probably will on your pre op diet, get lots of Protein, 100 grams or better each day and start your Biotin to minimize your hair loss after. After surgery, start getting your protein through your shakes and drinks. Isopure is a great protein source, it's on clear liquid and a 20oz bottle is packed with 40 grams of protein. The sooner you can get your protein after surgery it will help heal your tummy heal! I did this and I have to say, my recovery was very easy and quick. Had lots of energy for the most part but about a day each week or so I would feel wiped so took it easy on those days. Best of luck to you! -
I'm sorry you are having a time of it right now. It will get better. Hang in for a bit longer. Sometime it just takes some folks longer for their new tummy to find its way. Do your very best to stay hydrated, that will help so much. Wishing you the very best!

Post Op Vitamins!
newat52 replied to Jessiegurl2686's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is usual for the surgeons and NUTS to have an additional 1000mg of calcium per day. Something about absorbing it properly. Mine says no more than 500 at a time and a couple times per day. You may want to check with your surgeon or NUT if you have one. I think they are more concerned with woman though. Good luck! -
Post Op Vitamins!

Don't forget the calcium. Make sure it's citrate not carbonate. Hard to find citrate chewables in stores but Amazon has lots of them. -

Struggling to Eat
newat52 replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does it just seem like to much bother or are things not sitting well? I would also wonder if you are getting enough Water? That could make you not feel well and not feel like eating. Are you still restricted, diet wise? I know towards the end of my phasing in, I was just sick of the same things. I tended to eat the same things all the time so it felt like a big chore. You really need to try and get in more calories though, your body could think it's starving and send you into a big stall. That even makes it harder to get motivated. Not sure how much help this is but hang in there. You can do it! -
Just be a friend and let her guide the conversation. There are a million other things to talk about. Try to order something that you can handle today and if t won't go down well, the oh well, we all have days like that from time to time, sleeved or not. You may be over thinking it, if not, let her know you care about her and that you know she cares about you and you are sure she is happy to support your decisions just as you support hers. Then it will be time for a big hug. Have fun!

Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This subject never ends well. I totally respect everyone's decision to tell, not tell, tell part, tell any or not at all. I still fail to see why those who value privacy are called liars, embarrassed and dishonest. I can only speculate. Have a great day people, however side of this coin you fall on. Yes, even you OTR. -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting that you define those answers as truth but yet are vague and not complete. Then you turn around and say that "A lie by omission is still a lie" Which is it? You can't have it both ways. You either tell it all or you are lying. That's what I hear you saying. Interesting indeed. It must be hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. -
Check in how you doing were you at
newat52 replied to tlah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you are recovering well. At one week, was feeling great, walking about 2 miles per day, broken up. No nausea at all and only needed one night in the hospital. Was not having an issue with liquids or liquid Proteins other than it was a full time job. Was not hungry at all. Still have not had bad hunger. All in all, I could not have asked for a better surgery, recovery and so far at 9 weeks, I am loving this sleeve! It will get better and better each week so keep up the great work! -
Scheduling a date?
newat52 replied to Whimsical Rosé's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Depends on if you are insurance or self pay. Self pay moves to the front of the line because there are no insurance hassles to deal with. If you have very narrow window to have your surgery, I would say do your pre-op well as far out as your surgeon will allow to make sure that does not delay you. I was self pay and mine got delayed because of an abnormal EKG. I had to get a cardiac clearance due to it. The abnormality turned out to be perfectly normal for me but we didn't know that at the time. It pushed me back two weeks. Of course, best to make sure all is clear. Good luck to you! -
Good luck and speedy recovery! Check in when you can!

Good luck to you! I am 9 weeks out with Dr. Nicholson. Very happy and love that he does he leak test in the OR so you can start with ice chips as soon as you wish. Forrest Park~Frisco is a beautiful facility and the nursing staff is fantastic! Don't ask me how, but somehow they parked me up on the 4th floor in a beautiful two room suite for my stay. Felt very VIP! -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your post was directed at those who don't tell the world. You implied that we first complain that WLS is not accepted but on the other hand we are ashamed or embarrassed to have had it. First of all, What makes you think that we are ashamed or embarrassed? You assume it for whatever reason. You don't seem to have a concept that private people are just that. Just because some people don't tell everyone they meet about everything about them does not add up in any way, shape or form to embarrassed or ashamed. It just doesn't. There have been so many threads regarding this subject, some started as innocently as this one and some come out and just label the thread, why lie? People get tired of being called liars, living a lie, ashamed and embarrassed. Yes, we've been called them all. Let me just say one more time, that it is not a lie to keep private things private. Be it my income, my sex life, my medical history. I don't share those things. It's nobody's business. People don't have to like what you write, but calling them embarrassed and ashamed is name calling and Irresponsible. Oh, and your little dig at the end of your last post shows that you are not open to another point of view. I stand by my post as well. -

What makes you think that people who keep their private lives private are embarrassed or ashamed? Did the thought ever occur to you for one second that sometimes people just don't need to share every last detail of their life with the whole world? Be it ANY medical or other personal aspect of their lives. it's as simple as privacy I would suggest before you start labeling and name calling you think about your words. How irresponsible can you be? -

38 pounds in 3 months. That's over 12 pounds per month!!!!! When you look at it like that, it ain't slow honey. It's fantastic! :) I know you've heard it before but you didn't gain it in 3 months, it's not gonna come off in 3 months. Patience. Patience. Patience. -

When Does it Become Real?
newat52 replied to Iniysa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was surreal for me pre -op maybe because my surgery got delayed and was pre-op dieting for a month so my mind was just here we go again dieting. Even raiding the bank accout (self pay) it wasn't sinking in. I woke up in recovery and THEN **** got real! Wouldn't go back and change a thing and so happy I did it. 9 weeks today life is becoming normal again. Albeit, a new normal but I am loving it more each day. I love not over eating. I love eating to be healthy. I love being more active. It's real now and it's great! -
Powder should be fine unless you get an over zealous TSA agent. I took several string cheese on the plane with me when I traveled last month. I also had some packets of nectar powder but they were pre packaged and sealed. I checked a bag so I put some Premier Protein shakes in a ziplock then in tupperware and they made it just fine. They helped me a great deal on my trip. Good luck and safe travels.

4 months out.. & so stressed
newat52 replied to MissTiffany203's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do try upping you calories and carbs but do it with healthier ones, your body may be adjusting to your constant calories. And up your Water, people say this helps. It's hard not to stress about it but dang! Those scales are the root of all evil! It will come off, it has no choice, if nothing else, I am learning that patience is key. Something I have never excelled in. Hang in there sweetie. -
I just found those at Costco the other day. They look yummy. Have you grilled them?
-
I will third that. Walking is the best and really the only way. Plus, it helps with your overall recovery. You don't have to overdo it, just short, frequent walks will do the trick. Next week will be so much better, and every week after will be better than the last. Hang in there!

Every post op diet seem to be different. It's amazing how many schools of thought there are on the post op diet. Mine was no caffeine for 4 weeks. I started having decaf about a week out. Started having regular at 4 weeks. Because caffeine can be a diuretic when you are still trying to get your liquids in and as Arts137 says it can irritate your new tummy. I can't drink my standard two cups per day but I sure love my one cup of regular, I mostly drink 1/2 to 2/3 of mine and sometimes I will put the leftover in the blender with some chocolate Protein powder, cup of skim and some ice and Starbucks has nothing on me! My own little protein spiked mocha! I would say speak with your surgeon or NUT, ask why, it may be they do it as a general blanket so those who really need strict guidence will have the greatest chance of success.

Last night I put a whole fryer in the crock pot, layered the bottom with onions, stuffed it with onions and peppers. No need for liquid, it will make its own. Rewind is right, it just falls apart. Took it out this morning, I can't get mine out in one piece its that tender. Deboned it and put some of the broth with part of the deboned chicken and will make some soup tomorrow. For today I made some killer chicken chili by adding more onions, garlic, and since I didn't have a lot of time, I used the 2 alarm chili mix. Added 3 cans of dark red kidney Beans 3 cans of diced tomatoes, a can of tomato paste and my 6 quart crock in at the brim. Will make meals for a week. Chalk full of Protein with the chicken and beans, lot of Fiber and family friendly!
