7th day still in hospital
newat52 replied to slcmommy5's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So sorry you have had a time of it. I wish the very best for you. May you have a rapid recovery from here out! Sweet little girl! Happy Mothers day! -
When I go I will order a tall skinny Cappuccino. I don't get decaf unless it's in the afternoon. My surgeon and NUT are ok with small amounts of caffeine as long as I am not having an issue getting my Water in. Also, if you need a quick easy Breakfast, look for their spinach and feta breakfast wrap. I open up the wrap and have the inside. Great Protein and so yummy. If, I recall correctly, almost 20 grams of protein. It's one of the few things there that are quite nutritious.

newat52 replied to mysleevemylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you feeling better this morning? Was thinking about you yesterday. Did the ibuprofen upset your stomach? And I'm still chuckling about the whole straw thread from a while ago. -

How will this be different?
newat52 replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep. Shelling out that money was not fun but I would do it again in a New York minute. Already at 9 weeks out my life is so much better! I still am somewhat convinced they did operate on my brain too. My whole thinking about food has changed so much and for the amazing! Gonna have to ask the Doc next time I see him. -

newat52 replied to Mastiff_mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You look fantastic! Slow and steady wins the race! I am 9 weeks out and am 52. I knew it would be slower for me because I have always been a slow loser and at our age, our bodies don't seem to want to give it up! I am not doing low carb, just healthy rounded meals with of course Protein first. I just hit my second major goal of another 10% of my body weight. It's going slow but it's going! Congrats to you! You inspire me! And yes, 50's are great! I My favorite decade so far! -
Dunkin' Donuts is my Postop Friend?!
newat52 replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yes, whodda thunk it? Some of the places you would think would be post op suicide can actually be some of our best friends! Starbucks for example, they have a egg white, spinach and feta breakfast wrap. Un wrap it from the tortilla and you have Protein nirvana! Yummy too! McDonalds, grilled chicken ceasar salad, same exact salad, every time, every place down to the 4, yes exactly 4 cherry tomatoes. Great lunch, I eat the chicken and .5 oz of shredded parm, the 4, exactly 4 tomatoes and I am good to go. Did I mention, they have 4, exactly 4 of those little cherry tomatoes in every grilled chicken ceasar salad, every day in every McDonalds? I think I want the job of tomato quality inspector for them. I can count to 4! I guess it goes to show if we look just a little, healthy stuff have been among us for sometime. -

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
newat52 replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tumbelyna and cls8402 I have always been a private person regarding not only medial issues but most everything. When I was younger I used to feel obligated to answer every question put to me. As I have grown older I no longer feel that way. I would diet every year, every year I would lose the same 30 pounds only to re gain it by years end. Even though I generally kept it quiet but sometimes people would ask how much have I lost, my reply would be "A good amount" or not as much as I had hoped." I would try to be polite with a reply and change the subject. If they persist, I would just state that is personal to me and really don't wish to discuss it. As for your surgery, if people ask what you had done, simply tell them that you had a medical issue tended to but you are feeling much better now, thanks for your concern and change the subject. If people want to speculate, they are not someone you would want to share any personal information with anyway. Most people will respect your privacy. I know a lot of people need or want to tell everyone everything about them. But the truth is most people don't care about what do other people do than giving them something to gossip about. If they want to share everything then they should do so and respect that. For those who choose to keep things private, be it medical or any other aspect of our lives, that is our right and would hope that others respect that as well. Good luck to you both, you will love your sleeve! -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does but it's a lie. I know it and you know it. In fact, it's sad but you probably believe it. Calling major BS on that! But this is going nowhere fast so I am out. Sorry this went south fast. This subject always does. Have a great weekend everyone. I am unsubscribing to this one. -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Must be one hell of a glass house you live in! Just one question. How do you judge yourself for lying? You've done it, you know you have. Can't imagine you avoid yourself. -
Newbie... But I learn quick!
newat52 replied to DallasM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! Take by your handle you are in Dallas. Have you decided which surgeon is going to "do the job"? We are so lucky to live in an area with so many top surgeons to choose from! Again, welcome! -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've asked that question several times and have yet to get an answer. Can only speculate it makes them feel better about themselves by trying to shame others. You think? -
Ideas for what to tell people?
newat52 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because when people are busy judging others, they don't have deal with their own insecurities and failures for the moment. It's a feel good thing, I guess. -

Fun Stuff! Stool softeners and laxatives!
newat52 replied to shelly13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Took me about 2 months to get back to normal. Only when I could expand my diet to include more Fiber containing foods did things "start to work its self out." Constipation has been far and away my biggest challenge. I still put a teaspoon of miralax in my morning shake. 9 weeks out now. I also take children's fiber gummies. The first month was miserable with constipation, lots of Protein and very little fiber makes lots of hard poop. Keep up with the stool softeners, MOM or miralax, (for me it was a combo of all 3) but it will get better. I'm still not where I was pre surgery but things are working out in the end. Gotta laugh about it! Good luck! -
Keep sipping. It is a full time job and you will be able to gradually increase the amounts. But just always sipping adds up. For me, the first week to quench that thirst I felt, I sucked on crushed ice chips. The were like heaven. I got a big bag of Sonic ice, (the best ice ever) and just went to town on them. It felt good on my throat and for me, cold worked much better than warm, but it does seem like lots of folks preferred the warm. Good luck!

Building Mass Burns Fat at a Faster Rate
newat52 replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thank you all for such great information. Question: What about us middle age ladies? What is the best strength training schedule for those of us who are not looking to be buff but just want to build back some lost muscle? Women in their 40's and 50's seem to lose upper body strength. I would like to reclaim some of that. Also just a general want to be fitter and keep the bones and muscles in a healthier state for fat burning and I guess just tone up a bit. Not sure if strength training once, twice a week. I don't want to become a gym rat, just get in, get out and do enough to make a difference without being achy for days after. Suggestions? I have a gym membership so I have access to all the equipment. Thanks in advance. -
Mine was out. chances are you will wake up to a friendly face asking you if you would like to wake up now. Good luck!

Today is THE day!
newat52 replied to Jessiegurl2686's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A small pillow to put on your tummy for the car drive home. It will help you feel protected and if you have to cough or God forbid, sneeze it will help. Best of luck for an easy surgery and speedy recovery! Where are you having your surgery? -
Wow! Congrats! What in inspiration!
