    Eating too Fast

For me, distraction works. If I am home alone, I get on my laptop and surf. It forces me to put my fork down and then I get interested in something and have to remember to take a bite. Whatever works. :-)

    one day post op

Glad all is well. My surgery with Dr. Nick went very well too. I am 10 weeks out and feel great! Keep sipping and walking. Try and get some Isopure in you as soon as you get home. It will help so much with the healing from the inside. Stay ahead of the pain, and sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk!
  3. Wow! No you most certainly don't have to. Sounds like a scam to me. I'll bet they will make you feel like you won't succeed if you don't. You can get everything you need for way cheaper. Why are you forced to purchase the pre-op diet from them? Just curious.

    Coffee anyone?

You may though, want to think about cutting your caffeine out slowly on your pre op so you don't get caffeine headaches. I started doing half calf then went to decaf. Then after surgery, I did decaf then half calf then on to the good stuff. It's hard enough to go through this without caffeine headaches.

    Coffee anyone?

Some people are instructed to avoid caffeine forever, some have it in the hospital. I was advised to avoid it until 3 weeks but to make sure I am getting my water in. It can be a diuretic and can be sour in your stomach. I started drinking it 3 weeks after surgery. Decaf after about 10 days. I still can only drink about 1/2-2/3 of a cup but it's enough for me and tastes so good. It's funny how we all have the same surgery but everyone gets different pre-op and post op instructions.
  8. Dumping is an issue with bypass but can happen with sleeve. MOM is milk of magnesia. When you are post op for the few few weeks, you are getting virtually no Fiber in your diet. Things usually level out after you are eating regular foods. You many need the MOM, or miralax in your shakes, (another laxative) until you can add some fiber into your diet and even longer. I still add about 1/2 a teaspoon of miralax in my morning shakes but I also take children's gummy fibers. Even after, you are still eating more Protein than fiber so you may need some help from time to time. The opposite can occur if you eat a lot of slider foods, fat and sugar. Also, for me, If I have eaten too fast, it seems to go right through me. That has happened two times to me.
  9. Wise words. I know I love my sleeve but I also know the hard work is yet to come. It's easier when you have someone telling you what to eat and when to eat. It's the forever after that is where the real work comes in. I know that there will be struggles and issues but reading an experience like yours and seeing how successful you are, it inspires me to stay on top of it. Thank you for sharing that.
  10. While I felt good pretty quick out of surgery, I did underestimate how long it would take to feel myself again. I had some energy but then I would wake up some days just wiped out and just be a slug that day. I would say listen to your body and do it. It really does take time to heal. Ok, that said, I'm gonna get real and tell you the truth. Poop. Yep, it will likely be a problem. Ha! You think nothing in, nothing out applies here. WRONG!! Beware. Because I had no nausea issues I was able to get on the liquid train pretty quick so hydration was not an issue. I was getting about about 60 grams of Protein through Isopure in under a week and was sippping on it from the time I got home. That stuff is loaded with protein, 40 grams for a 20 oz bottle. Didn't think to much of it till about 6 days after surgery. Man oh man, huge mistake! Don't let this happen to you. If you have not had relief start with the MOM. Don't let it get out of hand. It was a constant struggle (no pun intended) for a good month. My biggest issue by far and away. Just keeping it real. 10 weeks out today and I feel like a million bucks! I feel great inside and out. I have tons of energy. I am down 42 pounds including pre op. 29 post op. My outlook is different. I feel what my new normal is and I love it. I am not on a no carb plan, just balanced. I can eat most anything, I just have not had breads, Pasta and refined sugar. Mostly because I have not craved them. I have a couple glasses of wine every weekend (with the NUT and dr's blessing after 6 weeks) I just have to account for it. Getting sleeved has been the best thing I could have done for my health and I love, Love, LOVE my sleeve! I'm sure you all will too!

Cheapest unjury chicken 'soup' inc. shipping?

Thanks for that info. I had even emailed the folks there and they told me once the Protein reached over 140 it would gel. I had not tried what you suggested. Although, now that I am 10 weeks out I am on regular food, but maybe I will try it if I get sick. I could add some to my homemade broth. Thanks again!

Cheapest unjury chicken 'soup' inc. shipping?

I don't believe you can not get it anywhere but unjury.com To bad you live where you do. I have a whole container that I have used about two servings and didn't like it at all. I'm willing to give mine away to anyone in the DFW area that wants it. While the taste was not bad, the fact that you can't heat it over 140 degrees puts it at barely luke warm for me and I don't like it what for me is cold.

    A new life!

Congrats to you! It gets easier as each week ticks off!

  15. Big difference! It is amazing isn't it! And it will get even better! Congrats! You look beautiful in both pictures!

    Any one have regrets!

Yep. hair loss is a scary thought for me. I have thin hair anyway. I have lost hair before with dieting, although I didn't connect the two. I hated it. I really, really hated it. I'm 10 weeks out today and it has not happened yet although I have read and heard it is more typical beginning about 4 months out. I have taken every precaution, loads of Biotin, lots of Protein, on pre op and was getting about 60 grams within about 5 days of surgery so I know I have done everything I can to prevent it. It might happen anyway. While I hope it doesn't, I won't complain if it does because the way I feel, today at 10 weeks out is SO much better than I have felt ever in my entire adult overweight life. I feel healthy, well and in control. I feel healthy from the inside out and I know I look better, I have a spring in my step and and have more energy than I know what to do with. If I lose some, it will grow back. The way I feel and look at 42 pounds lighter is priceless. I can't help you will think the same! :) Good luck with your decision making, I'm sure you will know what is right for you!

1 week Post Op & Stressing Out

Just trying to get your liquids in is a full time job! Have you tried Isopure? It's on the Clear Liquids and packs so much Protein. 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of protein. Sipping on that throughout the day helps on both accounts. Hang in there, it just gets better every week!
  18. The Listerine breath strips are strong but I used them anyway. The monkey a$$ breath was even offending me. My poor little dog would want to come give my some cuddles but as soon as he got a whiff of my breath, he went a runnin!

    Congratulations Laura ven

    Congrats sweet lady!
  20. Hi, It always helps to have someone like you to see what could be. My original goal was 120 but my NUT suggested that 130-135 might be better. She suggested I may not like how I look at that weight. I'll get to the 130 and see how I feel. Honestly, I I feel great at 140, I would be thrilled there too. My usual day starts out with a Protein shake. I have actually been having these for a long time. I take half of a small banana, 3 frozen strawberries or small hand full of frozen blueberries and 6 oz of skim milk with a scoop of vanilla protien powder. Its about 200 calories and takes me about an hour to sip through. If I don't do fruit I throw my leftover coffee and a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder with a few ice cubes and nice little mocha is the result. lunch is usually about 2-3 oz of protein. Fish, deli meat or chicken with a side of green Beans or a couple of strawberries or canned spinach. Some days I can eat most of the protein and sometimes I get full before. That is about 150 or so calories. Sometimes I have an afternoon snack of string cheese, cottage cheese or dry roasted edamame for about 100 calories give or take. dinner is a similar offering as lunch. If I want something at night It is usually a premier Protein Shake (all or part) or some protein spiked pudding, if I need or want some more protein. Try for about 800 per day, and at least 70 grams of protein. Weekends are a bit different. My hubby travels every week so when he is home, I eat a few more things with him. Weekends might be a burger on the grill, beef or turkey, I eat it of course without the bun but I do put the "fixins on it with some grilled veggies. Squash and zuccuni. Sunday is our usual steak on the grill day but have not had that yet. Will wait another month or so for that. I drink wine every Friday and Saturday. 1-2 glasses. Red only and the best we can get. We love to sit on our patio and share a nice bottle. I account for it though. I have been off all dietary restrictions since the end of 6 weeks. Was on liquids for the first 3, not even pudding or Jello. That was rough but followed it to the T. I have not had any adverse reactions to anything thus far. I have tried about everything except any type of bread, Pasta or crackers, chips and sweets. I guess the pre op diet got rid of all the carb cravings so I just have not had a desire for them. I did have a few fries last week but they were good but it wasn't anything special. I feel normal again. Not the pre surgery normal but a new "in control normal." I feel like I eat to live, not live to eat. I enjoy my food and do creative things with it Last week I roasted a whole chicken in the crockpot and cooked i overnight. OMG! It was so tender. Fell apart. I let it cool and deboned it and have so much meat. It can be used all week. I actually made an awesome chicken chilli. It was so good, made a big batch so put it in small containers and froze it. My family loves it and its so stinking healthy too! How far post op are you?

    Unjury chocolate

I use them both and can't tell a difference at all. I wouldn't be able to tell one from the other. I usually use mine in a mocha type shake though so that my be why. I also use them both (and the unflavored) to spike chocolate sugarfree pudding.
  23. Spoken like a true San Diego girl! Love those avocados! One of the best foods ever! I have missed good avocados since I left San Diego. :-(
