    coffee drinkers?

I have a cup every morning. With half and half. I usually drink about 1/2 - 2/3 of the cup. Have since about 3 weeks out. Doc says its fine as long I get my liquids in. I don't have any issues getting in my water.
  2. I started using a straw early. It helped me get in more water. Did not give me gas at all. Some people have straws in the hospital.
  3. I would so let you cut and color my hair while you are wearing a beer helmet! It would make for a fun time! lol! I would suggest get a huge insulated mug and big straw and just leave it close and then not even pick it up to drink. Just take your mouth to it. Or use a bikers back that have the straws on your shoulder. That would be conversation material. :-)

Post-Op Day 5: Worried I feel too normal!

Your new tummy can't feel the restriction yet because it's swollen and trying to heal, that's why taking things to fast can cause damage. Go read some of the horror stories about some of the folks who took it to fast. It's not worth it.
  5. Need? No. Just because we are sleeved doesn't mean food can't taste good. I make an awesome chicken parm using panko to bread the chicken. I use my homemade, from tomatoes marinara sauce to top it so I want the flavor of the chicken to compliment that. My sauce Is so stinking healthy and awesomely good. It is a definite labor of love though. I won't put it on just anything. :-) I see why you might ask but actually most people have this procedure to eat normally and healthy. I believe making the quality and flavor the best we can without going overboard like tons of butter and such will help me eat healthy and enjoy the food I do have. I have to say about the oatmeal in the meatball, don't think that would work without compromising the flavor.
  6. I got cleared for wine at 6 weeks. I no longer have wine during the week unless we are having a gathering and then only one. I have glass or two on the weekends. The first glass can get me feeling happy but it doesn't last long.
  7. My NUT says I can drink until I eat then 30 minutes after, that usually works fine as most people don't order right away anyways, as least we usually don't. I can enjoy a glass of wine before we eat and I just usually order some appetizer for my meal so I skip out on everyone else's. I have taken a bite of something from time to time but only one. I was nervous at first, once I was off diet restrictions but now not at all. While a lot of my friends still focus on food, I focus on the company and really the food is becoming less important. It will take a little time and practice. I am almost 11 weeks out and it has happened faster that I thought. I understand how you feel though, pre op and the first 6 or so weeks our main focus is on food and liquids. Hang in there and give it a chance. Don't sit at home by yourself. You will get the hang of it before you know it.
  8. Not sure how far out you are from surgery. I have used panko as breading for chicken and it was fine.

    In need of food help

I am 11 weeks out so I am still learning too but I have a morning to "go to" shake. 1 scoop of vanilla Protein powder, 1/2 a small banana. I pre slice and freeze them to make my shakes a bit thicker. I add about 6 oz of skim milk, 3 or 4 frozen strawberries or a small handful of frozen blueberries. Just a splash of Water and about 1/2 teaspoon of Miralax and blend it up. It tastes wonderful and a great way to get some fruits and fiber in. This is the most carbs I consume at one time but the good mix of protein and carbs gets my day off to a great start. It does take almost an hour to get it down. For lunch and dinner, I usually just have room for protein and some veggie/fruit. I do 2 bites of protein and one bite of veggies/fruits. I love to just have a couple of strawberries on the side of the protein or some steamed broccoli. I have been keeping it simple. I also have one small prune with lunch and dinner. It helps. Good thing I like them. :-)
  11. I am a social person and I still go to events and happy hours just fine. I am 11 weeks out and no longer on any dietary restrictions. I have also chosen to keep my medical history private, as I always have. I can always find something healthy and enjoyable. I enjoy a glass of wine and have not really skipped a beat with food related gatherings. To be honest, no one really notices what I eat or don't eat. Sometimes the crunch of the basket of tortilla chips and the sight of my beloved frozen margarita can slightly annoy me but not for long. All I have to do is cross my legs, which I do with ease now and that slight annoyance turn immediately into a big silly grin! I believe I will probably have a sleeve of steel as some do, I have not had any adverse reactions to foods of any sort and look forward to enjoying most things, in much greater moderation. For now, I choose not to eat the empty carbs by having a few chips mostly because once I got over that processed carb craving on my pre op diet, I just have not had the craving and for me, that could be a slippery slope so for now, I will abstain. I guess what I am trying to say is, while I have changed the way I eat and even how I view food has changed a great deal, everything else is the same. I still enjoy everything I did before. That was one of the many reasons I choose to have my sleeve. To continue to enjoy life as I have, just healthier and longer. I hope some of this makes sense to you.

    Drinking water; long term prognosis.

I am almost 11 weeks out and I can take a good healthy drink. Not gulp by any means but a nice normal drink. It gets better with time. I take a bottle of water with me when I walk the dog and I can finish a 16 oz bottle in about 20 minutes.

What you wish you knew before the sleeve

    Amen and pass the Miralax!

    Crushed. Ice?

I did Sonic ice for the the first week! Love Sonic ice! Yes, you can buy ice from them. Best stuff ever!
  15. My surgery was March 6th. Starting weight was 220. Surgery date was 207. Today is 175. No issues with Water and Protein. Usually get about 80 oz of liquids not including my shake in the morning. Protein is 70-80 grams. I feel great and the inches are melting off. Don't lose as fast as some but I am thrilled. It's still over 3 pounds per week that will never come back. I had a very easy time with surgery and recovery so I have been one of the lucky ones in that way. I feel like my life is back to normal but in a healthy way. I feel in control, and feel healthy inside and out! I love my sleeve and am sure this was the best step I could have taken for my health!

    I'm drinking! I'm drinking! I'm drinking!

You need to give us a bit more information. So are you able to drink yet? Good job! Keep it up. Anything that will stay down is great! Even munching on ice chips. The G2 is great and so is poweraid zero!! Keep walking and sounding the "trumpets!" :) :) :)

  21. If your PCP does not want to or will not work with you, find one who will. Follow up is very important. You deserve better.

    3 days post op

Glad you are doing well. I am very happy with Dr. Nicholson! Sorry your stay was not good. Were you at Forrest Park~Dallas or Forrest Park~Frisco?

    Isopure omg!

I only could do the grape. I would mix it poweraid zero or a bit of Water. I reasoned they may not taste the best but they sure helped me get my Protein in the early weeks post op. I just kept telling myself "suck up buttercup and drink that s**t! I did heal fast so I'm glad I did.
  24. My NUT and surgeon do not have their patients on low carb. It's healthy, rounded. Protein first, veggies/fruits second and starches and carbs last. I do 2 bites protein, 1 bite fruit/veggies. They also say the goal is it get to 3 meals per day and little snacking. I like this plan. It works for me. Am I stalling? Yes. We all do. When I do, I lose inches so something good is going on here and I like it. While I wish I was shedding 5 pounds per week I am enjoying a normal life again based on the fact that there is limited real estate in my new tummy and making a choice in what goes in it is important in how I feel. I am probably getting 40-50 carbs per day. I have done low carbs for years and yes it makes me lose weight but I feel sluggish and tired. I feel great now and full of energy. I have not eaten breads, pasta, rice or refined sugar/ sweets. Have not even tried it. Mostly because the craving is just not there. Secondly, there is just no room. I did have a few french fries when we were out but they were not anything special. Who knew? Lots of different opinions but in the end we need to listen to our bodies and go about it the way that is right for us.
