Brushing your teeth and bad breath
newat52 replied to taylormarie421's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is the ketones in your body. I would get it every time I did Atkins. I called it monkey ass breath. It will go away as your diet get more back to normal. Hang in there! -
This is a great post. I really dislike the term "slow loser." It just seems so negative to me. I hope that I won't struggle with my weight for the rest of my life. One thing I like about the eating plan that my surgeon and NUT have advised is healthy eating once the dietary restrictions from healing were removed. I don't count carbs. I eat balanced with focus of course on Protein and then veggies/fruits. The idea is not to be at goal as fast as possible, it's to establish my lifetime healthy eating habits. So if my goal takes 9 months, 12 months or 24 months it will happen. In addition, I won't be at THAT point learning how to eat for the rest of my life I will have all that time under my belt and should be habit by then. We live in such an instant gratification society these days. I too, want it yesterday, but with this, if there is one thing I am learning, its patience. Comparing my loss to others is futile and chances are, I will come out on the short end the comparison stick. Why go there? I just spent almost 6 weeks hovering with the scale teasing and taunting me of the magic number to overweight land with obese land in the rear view mirror. Down 3, up 2, down 2, up 3. It was brutal but I know if I hung in there it would happen. Finally, 3 days in a row now with the scale under 163. I am ready to officially claim the fact that I am no longer obese. Good luck everyone, let's enjoy the journey a much as we can to a healthy life!

Sorry you are having a rough day. They sound just like the voices in my head somedays. I have 3 voices in my head The good, the bad and the ugly. Sounds like ugly is rearing her nasty head to you. -

If your insurance specifically tells you weight loss surgery isn't covered...
newat52 replied to Mel1071's topic in Insurance & Financing
My insurance would not cover it either. It is usually specifically excluded by the employer. I ended up self pay and it was the best all inclusive $12,200 I have ever spent. The upshot also from being self pay is you go straight to the front of the surgical line. No insurance hoops to jump through. Just whatever your surgeon requires regarding nutritional counseling and pre op diet. For me, being almost 5 months out. I would self pay again in a heartbeat! I am so stinkin healthy right now! :-) And I feel great too! -
I really think it's God's warped sense of humor! That is exactly what has been happening to me for the last 2 months. Down 3, up 2, down 2 up 3! I'm never really sure how much I am losing. That is how I have gone through the 160's. It started when I hit about 170 and it's been too hard to figure out what the loss is. This morning I just wanted to pick up the scale and throw it through the window. Yesterday I stepped on the scale and it broke 160 finally! 159.9! I thought I was gonna pee myself I was so happy! I glide happily through the day with my feet almost not touching the ground. Have not seen 15anything since high school! Of course, so today, step on and should have known, 162.4 WTF?? Seriously?? What makes it so frustrating is that I'm in that area of going from Obese to overweight and I want it so bad. I need to hit 163. I finally gave in an updated my ticker since I had two days in a row of under 163. I mean, the pounds are inching off, but it' not like I can say oh, I lost 2 pounds this week or even 1 pound. It just creeps down and up but down finally does win and then I have a new set of numbers to fight with. I don't know if this helps you or not but you're sure not alone and I just have to think God is getting a good laugh! lol!

What flavors did you get? What have you thought of them?
-
I traveled with premier protein shakes from Costco. Because they are a boxed drink I put 4 in a gallon ziplock then put the ziploc in a rubbermaid plastic container. I was not at all concerned about it other than them exploding all over my clothes. They were not disturbed in the least either time I took them.

Thank you 920amy! I have probably half a dozen or so that are in great shape. I will take them in.

Hey all, since we all used Dr. Nick I assume we are local. I have a can of Unjury Chicken broth and a can of Strawberry protein powder. Each I have used maybe two or 3 times and just didn't like them. I still use the chocolate and love it. The chicken broth is not bad but I really don't like barely luke warm and it can't be heated past 140 degrees. If anyone would like them, let me know we can meet some place if you like. I hate wasting and I know I will never use them. Free to good home. -
so if I have to pay 10% of the sleeve surgery cost....

What you are looking at is an excellent insurance policy. Be grateful. I wish mine would have covered any of it. Good luck! -
How did you survive giving up caffeine and sugar?
newat52 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like NtvTxn, I weaned down and off several weeks prior to surgery. I remember the caffeine headache and withdrawl that I experienced back in the day when I became pregnant and wow, it wasn't pretty! I was cleared for caffeine 4 weeks after surgery. It was ok to have decaf but it took about 3 weeks to even want coffee. I started out with half caf much like I weaned off. It took almost 2 more months before I could finish one cup of regular coffee. I still don't drink as dark of a blend as I did. I find the medium to lighter roasts more to my liking these days. Now I am one cup of coffee and one expresso size cup in my shake in the morning so two cups a day and I'm great! Good luck, do it slowly and you won't notice so much! As for sugar, getting it and all the processed carb stuff out of your system is not fun either but I have not tried it since surgery. It's too slippery of a slope to me. I decided to go till the end of the year before I venture into that. I need time to really get my new lifestyle in order. -
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine.

Feeling Physically drained everyday
newat52 replied to roundy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does take time. For me, I was tired for a few weeks but then it got better. Although till about 3 months, I would be fine and energetic most days but then seemed like once a week or so, I would just be wiped one day and not have energy. I would take it easy those days. I know everyone is different but be patient and you will be back to a new and better you! -
Yes, if you are taking in protein in your liquids you need to poop. Post op the same. The liquid is typically very high in protein and very low in fiber. It can get really bad. Miralax or MOM may be necessary.

Question for people with small dogs
newat52 replied to Rachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really just a good idea to keep a pillow on your tummy whenever you are sitting for the first couple of weeks anyway. The sneeze will come, the cough will come. I'm not gonna lie. It won't be pretty. The pillow will help you grab on to something. -

It's great that you like the dress, it doesn't always work out that way. I think we've all been there. About your arms, ya know, you may be surprised, I never wear sleeveless. Ever. Now, I look down at my arms and they are starting to appear dare I say, normal? Huh? Did I just say that? From the perspective of just looking at them in something sleeveless, they look normal now. Of course I lift them and the batwings are there but I'm starting not to care because the rest is starting to look normal. I guess that can be a NSV??

Thinking about you today!

Ok, now the real question is....is it a pretty dress or the awful kind of bridesmaid dress?

You may need a 12 by then. It takes less weight loss to go down a size the smaller you get. I am over 4 months out now and I have to say size 14 went by pretty quickly and now a 12 is roomy and comfortable. I am pretty sure a 10 will be roomy by the end of the summer. On the upside, you can always have it taken in or even recut if you need but you can't go up.
