    Parathyroid tumor.

I was diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism about 4 yrs ago when my kidneys stopped playing nice and went into renal failure because my blood serum calcium levels dropped off the chart. Any doctor worth his salt will not do a sestamibi scan because it's a 50/50 shot on being conclusive. An MRI or CT scan is the only certain way for a conclusive diagnosis. They say it is not hereditary yet 4 in my family have PT disease. Two of us are high, two are low. Mine is manageable by taking Calcitrol (Rx) and calcium (OTC) daily. My aunt on the other hand is hyper, had a thumb size tumor and 3 of the 4 PT glands removed. Your body can still function fine with one (sometimes even a half) PT gland. It hasn't been an issue for me but I have had to modify my lifestyle a bit. I drink almost all water now and have to manage my schedule. When I get super busy and stressed and do not rest like I should, my system acts up and I get a kidney infection every time. With it usually comes the tingling in the fingers and leg cramps...it's just part of the territory. But, as long as I take my medicine and get plenty of rest I'm fine. It's a strange disease because most people dont even know they have a PT gland until it acts up, but it's completely manageable regardless if your hyper or hypo. I wouldn't let it effect your decision to continue with WLS unless you surgeon specifies so.

how far out are you? I don't think I tried salad for about 12 weeks?.. raw veggies can be harder on the tummy. tomato peelings and seeds are a no no early on. I started with shredded lettuce, Seedless English cucumber and cheese with bolthouse yogurt ranch dressing.
  4. Down 80 lbs (150 days)! Wanted to hit 100 by 8/1 but 80 isn't chump change :)

    Grams of protein

    I eat 60-70 a day but today I ate 80
  6. Several girls I work with take Spark for a pre-workout energy boost. i think it may be an Advocare? product. They swear its great stuff but I'm very conscientious about what goes in my sleeve. They said its packed with vitamins and about two cups of coffee worth if caffeine in it. Anyone tried it?

    Ate Red Lobster tonight (pic)

I hate eating out for a few reasons. I won't eat out with people who don't know about my surgery now (just family and close friends) because of comments made each time I've tried... nothing to drink? are you sure? why aren't you eating? and the waitress kept asking over and over and then pointing out to everyone at the table that's is ok, they don't charge for water. I wanted to crawl under the table and die...especially when she brought me a tea with my meal and then looked all offended when I didn't drink it. I just order a water and let it sit there, or ask for my drink in a to-go cup.

    Bald

Mine has been falling out about a month now. I cringe every time I wash or comb it. I've taken biotin for years.. It really does help. Just hoping this shedding phase won't last much longer!

    Dr verbonnen?

No, I'm sure your fine. When you start eating solid proteins, it's a whole new game. I can barely eat two turkey meatballs even now. I get like 1 1/2 down and I'm way full...but then I can eat a nice plate of salad because it chews up to nothing...or watermelon I can probably eat two cups and not feel like I havent ate anything. You will start to learn that different foods feel different. I average about 3 oz but sometimes its more or less. Your right in that EVERY dr is different, so I read and do what i think is best for me. I eat carbs sometimes...gasp! Big no no with some docs..not for others. I don't do it everyday, but when I do I make it count. For example I make sure its whole grain like a couple bites of wild/brown rice or rice cakes (love the Carmel and cheddar). I look at this as its not a diet. Dieting never worked before and it won't work now. I'm focusing on making good, healthy choices when I eat. I use My Fitness Pal also and keep track of everything that passes my lips. And the leak thing is normal...everyone is paranoid about having a leak. I'm four months out ans still paranoid about it lol

    Dr verbonnen?

Your lucky I still had my first weeks menu on the fridge lol. If you got the same sheet I did from Dr V it didn't tell you much, so I combined all the info i could find online and customized it for things i liked. Google "Peachtree Bariatrics". They had a really great file available for download that has really detailed info for the first 6 weeks or so. Week 2 I was eating cream of wheat, thinned oatmeal, cream soups (thinned), soup with soft noodles, natural or no sugar added applesauce, SF carnation instant Breakfast, SF pudding, Fudgesicles (only 40 calories...so amazing), light juices (apple, white grape, etc) and light V8 fusion. Week 3... I started having SF frozen yogurt, mashed potatoes, can peaches, pear, and mandrin oranges, refried Beans (was amazing at that stage!), eggs, hummus, lean/moist fish, tuna, chicken and turkey, low fat cheese (6g of fat or less per serving...includes most 2%), and softy cooked veggies like green beans, zucchini, and squash. Week 4, everything from previous weeks plus introduce new foods one at a time. avoid tough meats, starchy foods (white rice, Pasta, breads etc). I know everyone has their input on what they think is right...I'm not a dr but this is what worked well for me. I also added citrus fruits about week 6 or 7. Citrus fruits can be stringy...peelings don't digest well at first, and all that acid can kick up the acid relux. I eat by the rule of 3 now lol...3 oz about every 3 hrs. Breakfast, lunch, dinner I focus on Protein, mid morning/afternoon/evening snack a fruit or vegetable. Hope this helps you
  12. I disagree... I can drink now just like I did before surgery. I'm a lot further along than most of you but I still have a premiere for Breakfast because I'm not a breakfast person...eggs..uck lol. I will take a choco premiere rtd and mix with coffee and a spenda over ice for a pretty good mocha. Or I will mix a vanilla one with a cup of 2% milk, ice, strawberries and banana in the blender...mmm. Both fill a 24 oz cup and I'll sip on it all morning at work.

Thanks I am feeling great! I had surgery 3/1 so I'm about 4 1/2 months post op.

    Dr verbonnen?

I apologize I didn't see your first post until it notified me on the second one. It gets better, hang in there. Tomato based soups didn't set well in the beginning, and I noticed temperature made a difference...too hot or really cold was uncomfortable. I could do about three or four apoonfulls at first. Don't forget to move since your home. I walked to the bathroom on the other end if the house...up and down the hallway... the more you move the better you feel so don't let yourself get stiff. I was probably drinking about 20 ounces then also so your ok. I had to keep a glass in my hand to remember to drink because I didn't get thirsty. Some days it was only an ounce, but I tried to drink more each day. After about two? months I was drinking normal again. Remember this isn't a race, so don't compare yourself to others...do the best YOU can do

    Dr verbonnen?

did you have surgery in the clinic or hospital? I was at the clinic and Maria was my nurse. She didn't speak much English but she was great and we didn't have a problem communicating. Glad to hear you are doing well. Everything is a downhill road from here...each day gets easier and easier So I'm curious.. have you tried to contact Sherri again? Any response? I'm pretty sure if I picked up the phone and said I was ready for plastics she would call me back $$$ lol PM me sometime and let me know how you are doing

    hair question

I just completed my 4th month post-op and really noticed in the last week that it's shedding bad. But, I go into shedding this time of year anyway so I'm hoping it won't be bad!
  19. So I'm 3 months post op on the 1st and down almost 60 lbs. I'm eating around 800 calories a day and 70ish grams of protein...sometimes I hit 900 or so. What is your typical calorie/protien intake and how far out are you? I know everyone is different, just curious how I stack up.

    Dr verbonnen?

I was sleeved by dr V on 3/1. I only talked to him for about two seconds before surgery and then never saw him again so I really can't give you an opinion of him much. However, I have a sleeve of steel and nothing has bothered me. I have neat, minimal scars so as far as his work he did a great job. Sheri Burke was my coordinator and although as pleasant as she was, don't expect answers to any questions after the money hits her hands. No returned calls, no returned emails. I will also tell you to expect to be flexible in your travel plans. They took us back to San Diego a day early and dropped us off at a hotel around 10? that morning. Having surgery less than 48 hours earlier, I wasn't happy about laying on a couch in a hotel lobby for 5 hrs till our room was ready when I was supposed to be in a 4 star resort in Mexico recovering.

    post op soda

A coke is a coke unless it's sprite lol. I'm almost 4 months out. I've had a couple kiddie cokes from sonic (diet dr p's for you sticklers) and did ok. I wouldn't dare sip off of a bottle or can but did fine with it a fountain after it sets a few and the bubbles work out. Its full of ice so I bet I only get about 4 oz or so of liquid. I used to drink 3 or 4 regular 44 oz dr peppers a day, so I don't feel bad about this. I usually take a sip or two and then it's like yep... You really didn't want it after all and I'm done with it.
