These are a bit expensive, but they're really good and low carb: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003GBCH10/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?qid=1376682004&sr=8-8π=SL75

Made it to Onederland!

To you too! I love your screen name -- I'm guessing that you came and you gave without taking... -
Any suggestions re: pre-made protein drinks w/ low carbs and high protein?
bobheist replied to vsginkc's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I agree with the people who've said Premier for pre-made. For powders I like the Isopure no-carb -- that has 50 grams of protein if you use two scoops or 25 if you use one scoop (obviously). I like to use one scoop of the vanilla Isopure powder with some decaf coffee and ice. -
Made it to Onederland!
bobheist replied to ohh_mandyy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made to onederland today, and I'm so friggin happy/excited. I had surgery seven and a half months ago weighing 367. This morning I weighed in at 198. -
I eat a serving about every third day. I like it and eat it dry or with Greek yogurt. I believe that it really does help.

Controversial - The evaluation of before and after. Healthier by definition, but does everyone who is VSG'd really 'look' better?

You're blinded by the lack of spelling errors? -
Nice!

DO NOT drink milk or take your calcium supplement with your iron supplement!
bobheist replied to melissa73's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was told to take the iron in the morning (I'm sure bedtime would work too) and wait at least 2 1/2 to take my first calcium. I was also told (I'm taking 3 calcium a day) that I should wait at least 2 1/2 hours before taking another calcium, for absorption reasons. -
It's so ghetto how they boldly proclaim "Sugar-Free!" but actually have corn syrup in the sauce...talk about deceptive.

This looks SO good -- kinda high cal, but maybe worth it.

I started at 367 (I'm 6'3") in December 2012 (sleeved on 12/19) and I'm now 210.

To tell or not to tell that is the question.......................
bobheist replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery over Christmas break. Just before I told someone I work with, someone who I knew had a big mouth. By the time break was over everyone knew -- made it so easy and saved me from having to tell people. -
I had the surgery in California. I was operated on on a Wednesday night and discharged Friday afternoon.

That's awesome! That is such a non-scale-victory!

I like Fiber One (original) mixed into yogurt. It has 17 grams of fiber and 11 grams of carb for 1/2 a cup.

Average loss with the sleeve is 60% of excess weight?!?!
bobheist replied to Nicolanz's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm tall and big (and a guy) at 6'3". I was 367 pre-op (12/19/12) and I'm now 213 at about 6 1/2 months post op (lost 154 lbs). I've very closely followed the program I was given and exercised a lot. I need to lose at least 14 more lbs to get my BMI in the normal range. I don't know if I can or if I'll ever make it to 199. My doctor originally told me he could get me to 175-180. Now he tells me that's probably too low for me... I just know that my big worry is maintaining... -

bobheist replied to Nicolanz's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This has always concerned me, but I agree with the person who mentioned their best weight for them, not necessarily the BMI charts... To me the bigger concern/worry is the ability to keep the weight off long-term. -
I haven't tried this, but coating in Fiber One Cereal sounds good: http://www.hungry-girl.com/newsletters/raw/725 Sleevers would like eat less than the recipe's serving.

I think shrimp is actually a great food -- low cal and relatively high in protein (I think). It's been a great food for me.

Teachers Supporting Sleeved Teachers
bobheist replied to ambervsg2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a teacher and I'm in. I had mine done just before winter break and agree that one week off would've been fine (was nice to have two off though). -
According to their site it's a meal replacement: http://m.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4447508 Same calories as the Isopure I drink, however it has 17 carbs to Isopure's 0. On the other hand it does have 8 grams of Fiber...

An interesting article on VSG in the spotlight

Thanks so much for posting this. -
I use the FitBit Flex and really like it. It syncs right up with both the FitBit app and the My Fitness Pal app. I like how they work in tandem.
