1st week pre op diet success !

I have been reading many posts, so many sleevers having to go on a liquid diet pre op. I was told, low carb, low sugar diet only for two weeks prior to surgery. I was never even instructed to drink protien shakes pre op (just post op) I was told this as to strink my liver for surgery. I am not even sure if my liver did strink as the Dr never mentioned it after surgery. I just wonder why Dr's instructed us so differently? It really confuses me. Even tho I was able to eat pre op, my surgery went very well, I have lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks. And feel fantastic. Does anyone know why the difference?

How long were you off work?

I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I do have a desk job with a assistant. My assistant was a big help and I probably could not have went back so soon if it wasn't for her.. by weeks end tho, I was fine.. Good Luck

    Back again!

It should not take 30 pounds to strink your liver. My Dr. wanted me to strink my liver as well. I was told two weeks before my surgery I was on no sugar, no carbs as per my Dr. these are the triggers that enlarge your liver. I did try my best, however my pre op diet was the two weeks of the Christmas Holiday, so to be honest cheating was involved. After the surgery, he never said anything about my liver, so I guess it was ok. Maybe you can get a second opinion.
  4. I had my wls on 1/2/13, and have lost a little over 30 pounds. Your fear was my fear actually it was what I feared the most. When I read this forum, I realized everyone was different. I was hungry all the time. However your sleeve is your friend, and will restrict you from eating large amounts. So when I was hungry, I would eat, but 2 or 3 bites and the restriction would start. A string cheese and some water would usually do the trick. So you might be one who is hungry, and if so, feed your sleeve, it will tell you when you are done. As you can see 30 pounds down in 5 weeks, even with the hunger.. You will do great. Much luck and speedy recovery!

    time off work

I had my surgery on a Wednesday, and was back to work by Monday, I have a desk job and a assitant, so I was able to work thru being a bit uncomfortable. If I could have I def would have taken the entire week of, but owning my own business, I had no choice.
