Did they weigh you on surgery day?
hf2havefun replied to mermaidpuppy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They did weigh me at the hospital and at my pre-op appt. I was down 14 lbs. -
I had my surgery on 8/21 and maybe about a week and a half ago I took off the plastic wrap looking bandage that's water-resistant and just before doing that my abdomen started itching. It still is itching. I know as you healing it can be itchy but, at some points it's worse than the eczema on my leg. I think that I'm allergic to the adhesive that's on the back of the bandages. I've been using anti-itch lotions and the baby medicated powder. It takes the edge of for a little while. Hope you find some relief.

I know how you feel. I'm 2 weeks post op and tomorrow I'm starting pureed. I'm still not hungry and wondering if this is even possible. So many other posts I've read that people said as early as 4 days post op or sooner that they were already hungry. I just hope it continues like this. No hunger pains and just eat my meals throughout the day I'd be pretty much set. Of course this past weekend I wasn't seeing it this way. I had a wedding reception with appetizers and dinner included in it on Saturday and Sunday my mom decided to have a family picnic. Needless to say I'm on full liquids only and can't have any of the food I saw so, I lost it a couple times. I think I'm better now, not ok but better. I miss the chewingand the scale didn't move this week. Aside from that everything is all right.

New-going through pre testing for lap band.
hf2havefun replied to imak's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Kami, Things are going as well as can be expected. I've been on full liquids since Tuesday. My incisions, mainly my port one, is still a little sore. scale stopped moving downward but at least it hasn't gone up. my energy levels are still down even though I'm getting my Protein in. So I've been taking a nap everyday. I'm going back to work on Tuesday, which is a desk job, so we'll see how that goes. Plus that same day i get to start pureed. YUM!! :) What I'm really surprised at is that I'm still not hungry. It seems a lot of the others here so many days after surgery are hungry already, not that I'm complaining. So all in all I'm doing pretty well thank you. Have a good night!:notagree -
Butt/lower back pain after surgery
hf2havefun replied to jteastside's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only thing I had was my tail bone hurt tremendously after surgery in the recovery room, my hospital room, and a couple of days after surgery. I think it was from being on the gernie for so long. They aren't very comfortable as we all know. Sorry to hear you're having problems. I hope it gets better soon. -
I agree with Shannon. I had them too. Mine of course kept chirping throughout the night and the nurse had to keep coming in to fix it. But they didn't hurt they were just a little inconvenient, especially when you had to go to the bathroom.

I'm sorry to hear about you having to appeal the insurance company. It's funny how BC/BS can very so much from state to state and work companies. I have BC/BS myself but I'm in Connecticut. I was approved no problem but, I had to meet quite a bit of criteria to qualify. So many tests and Dr.'s appt's. I was banded on 8/21/07. Just search this site. There is all sorts of info, as well as others who have been in your situation. Just hang in there and if you have any questions, this is the place to ask them. So don't hesitate. This is a very friendly group here. Hope all goes well with your appeal. Good luck!:biggrin1: -
Sleep Apnea & Anesthesia
hf2havefun replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucky you. I found out about a month before surgery that I have moderate sleep apnea and also had to get a CPAP machine. First I had my gallbladder surgery on 8/14 (same day in/out of hospital). When I came out of surgery and in the recovery room every time I started to fall asleep my oxygen levels would drop below 90. I guess they like it more toward the middle 90's. They kept telling me to take deep breaths to get my levels back up. Many hours later I was finally allowed to go home. They never told me to bring my CPAP for that surgery even though in my chart said I have sleep apnea and asthma. Well, on 8/21 I had my lap-band surgery. The day before, the hospital called the 1st time to tell me what time my surgery was and what time to be at the hospital. They then called a 2nd time only to remind me of my $250 copay. Never mentioned anything about bringing that machine. Needless to say, when I woke up in recovery and they let my parents in to see me, it was only my mom. She proceeded to tell me that the hospital decided I needed the CPAP machine and made my dad drive all the way home to get it. We live 1 1/2 hours from the hospital with no traffic tie-ups (Connecticut I-95). It took him about 4 hours total driving to get back to the hospital with that stupid machine. I did have the same problem again where my levels kept dropping and finally got to my room after 9 pm. When my surgeon found out that the anesthesiologist decided this call without him he was absolutely LIVID!!! My surgeon apologized profusely to my dad and said that they shouldn't have even bothered with the machine since most patients don't use it the night they've had surgery anyway. They kept trying to make me wear it and I wasn't ready to go to sleep. Plus, I had just gotten a new full face mask that I wasn't used to yet. I think I wore it maybe 3 hours tops. Hardly worth it for making my dad drive all that way. Especially since back in May he had a heart attack and really didn't need any additional stress. So my advice is: if you have a CPAP machine bring it to the hospital anyway because sometimes they'll want you to use it. -

Ok, On Tues. (9/4) I get to start my pureed phase of my post op diet. On it one of the things I can have is baby food. The list says stage 1 but, there aren't very many choices. Is there really a big difference between stage 1 & stage 2? I am also starting back to work then and want to make sure I have everything to bring for my breakfasts and lunches for that week.:help::help::help::help::help: Can anyone tell me?

Yes Judi, I think we have a pretty great group here. I really appreciate all the support I've received. Hi Band Chick (my band-twin)!

Do you get used to OUNCES of food?
hf2havefun replied to michiganer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In the stores, Walmart or anywhere they have these magnets that tell you the conversions between how many Oz equals what size Cup and other measurements sometimes too. Examples: 1 Oz= 1/8 Cup 2 Oz= 1/4 Cup 4 Oz= 1/2 Cup ...and so on and so on. Usually you can find it in the section with the cooking utensils. They also have inexpensive food scales if you needed to weigh your food. After using these for a little while I'm sure it will be like second nature. -
Difference between Stage 1 & 2 Baby food?
hf2havefun replied to hf2havefun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you, that helps a lot. -
You could always make your own chili with the fake meat crumbles they have at Walmart in the freezer section (Morningstar Farms or Gardenburger, maybe Boca brand too) and freeze it in smaller portions in the size you'll eat (small freezer bags/takes up less space and lies flat). Then you can take one out the night before to let it thaw and transfer it to a microwavable container to bring for lunch. Then you know exactly what's it in unlike some of those already canned or frozen ones. Plus, you can always use no salt added tomatoes to cut back on sodium if it's a problem. You could probably do that (freeze in small portions) with practically anything: Soups, pasta/sauce, etc. And it's cheaper than buying a ton of those frozen meals and you can have a little variety.

So I could probably puree it (stage 2) a little more to smooth it out then? -
What is going in with my body!
hf2havefun replied to darknlovely3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The growling might even be the gas that's still trapped from the surgery. Sometimes it can take awhile before it goes away. I had a lot of those same sounds and still do on occasion. I'm 9 days post op and had my surgery on 8/21. I'm still not hungry at all and I'm on full liquids according to my post op diet. I start on pureed on Tues. -
Hello, I saw another thread earlier today on this. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/depo-provera-29715/?highlight=Depo Maybe you'll get some answers there too. Hope this helps.

Tomorrow is the big day and scared
hf2havefun replied to Liz1531's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liz1531, Don't be scared. Practically everyone including myself went through or is going through this. I think it's perfectly natural. Think about it. You're making a huge step toward bettering your health. It's a big deal so it's natural to have these feelings. It hit me a few times leading up to the day before and even that day. My worst point was as soon as I got on the OR table. The OR nurse noticed I was starting to get a little panicked and came over and calmed me down. Usually the nurses and doc's are really nice and if you're concerned about something tell them. You have a ton of support on this site as I have found myself. Just think about all the great things that are going to come out of this. A new thinner you!!! What could be better than that ?! If you have any questions/concerns don't hesitate to ask. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know how you did. -
I didn't ever have the depo shot but, before being banded I was on Seasonale Birth Control Pill (they have a generic for this now) for my Endometriosis. It's the one where you only have your period 4 times a year. I've been on it at least 3+ years and have never had a weight gain from it, only from eating too much. It really helps with my Endometriosis and cramps. My surgeon had me go off it in July temporarily because any birth conrol pill can cause blood clots and they wanted to lessen my risks during both my gallbladder and lap-band surgeries. I'll be starting back up on it in September. That might be a better option for those of you having trouble with the depo shot. Of course, that's just my opinion but, I just wanted to tell you all my experience. Hope this helps.

Kim, It's perectly normal. I had the same exact thing. One gas bubble that lingered right in the middle of my chest. Mine unfortunately lasted about 5 days post op. You might also be taking too big of sips which I think was/sometimes still is part of my problem. You are still swollen and it will be for a little bit. Everyone is different however. You could wake up tomorrow and it'll be gone. Just sip slowly, take gas-ex, hot tea, and keep walking around. Walking around will eventually get it to move out. Some of those gas bubbles are so stubborn!:angry Hang in there, it will go away!

I feel the same way as Cherrybomb and losingjusme. I had done it awhile ago. At the time they had a special that if you had a physical in the past 6 mos., then they'd waive the sign-up fee which I think was over $100 for the one year. Then it was about $30-35 a month on top of that. The other thing you have to think about, is it close enough to you that you'll actually attend. All of the ones in or around my area were out of my way. None of them were on the route to or from work unless I went the long way home. Gas wise (driving) and time wise it just wasn't worth it to me. Also, you have to notify them before the end of your contract at least two weeks before if you want to cancel at the end of your 12 months, otherwise they will continue to charge you on your credit card. There were a few months at the end of my contract and I wasn't attending because I was constantly sick and had a problem with my ankle. They never bothered to call and see why I wasn't coming and continued to charge me, even putting my credit card over the limit a couple times. I have a gym at work on the 1st floor of our employee parking garage and it's only $15/month. A lot more equipment and a lot more convenient, at least 5 days of the week anyway. Good luck!

Good Luck To August Bandsters The Week of 8/27!
hf2havefun posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just want to send out a note to all of you being banded this week. Good luck! You are going to do great! I know you're probably like how I was just before surgery. You're probably nervous or a mix of emotions right now. You'll all be in good hands. Just take deep breaths and think of all the great results you're going to get from doing this. I was banded last Tues. and I'm doing pretty good, just taking one day at a time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep us all posted on how you're doing. GO CRAZY ATES!!!!:whoo::whoo::whoo:
