That was so unexpected but so darn exciting to hear!! I have the water works going because I am so thankful to know my new life can really begin OMG I am feeling so many different things. Wow Thank you Lord!! 3 days really. The actual letter will be sent out in a few more days but it's approved!!!!

Wow that is pretty steep. My yearly deductible for the family was 2500.00 and I have met it so the surgery is 560.00. Did you find out if you can have a lower bmi if you have co morbidity problems and qualify? My bmi is 37.

Good luck!

I really hope the same for you.

Nov Sleevers... What's Your Status?
misslady replied to Yasmine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just saw your pictures and you are absolutely rocking that sleeve girl!! I know you feel and not just look better, you can tell by your smiles. Wow glad to see that we can keep our "thickness" in the places that matter LOL you know the husbands like some junk in the trunk (well mine does). You gave me that extra push to schedule sooner rather than later. Waiting to hear from insurance now. Do you have any skin issues, it didn't seem so. Do you have to wear like the spanx or any shapers? -
Sorry that you are having to go thru this frustration. But I would say again make your insurance company the final answer. If Blue Cross tells you that they do not accept lower BMI patients then that would be the end of the line. The coverage I have with BC/BS TX will accept lower BMI candidates but you do have to have co-morbidites. Not sure what your health history is like. But things like hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea etc. They told me exactly what co-morbidities would qualify a lower BMI patient. Now if your SURGEON just has a specific BMI patient that they will only work with I would suggest changing surgeons if your insurance says you can have the surgery with a lower BMI. Hang in there. And their decision does not change that you a worthy!! You deserve to try and get the help you need. Good luck.

I would try calling the insurance back and hopefully get some good "customer service" this time. Your insurance carrier has the specifics of your plan and your surgeons office does not. I think if you get the right agent at blue cross all your questions could be answered for you. i know it can be nerve wracking especially when someone is not giving you vital information, but hang in there and keep pushing you way to sleevedom.

I have been able to save money thinking about buying in the future. I do notice that I have been increasing my eating since I am sure surgery is the answer. I have cut out sodas so far none this month from having one or two a day. But the chips and candy are close at hand. SMH

I called the customer service number on my card and asked if the plan my employeer had covered bariatrics. They told me exactly what procedures they did and what the criteria was to have the surgery. They explained the financial portion also. They also told me after I met all the criteria and the surgeon submitted paperwork for predetermination it would take about 5-7 days to get approval. Very smoothe process so far.

Paperwork submitted today. Waiting begins. Surgeons office said blue cross could take 2-3 weeks to respond. I hope not that long. I have to pay the surgeons fee of a whopping 360 bucks without hernia repair or 560 with hernia repair. I can't complain about that price. Wish me look for approval.

Fertility Treatments vs. VSG surgery
misslady replied to misslady's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for the tips. I am 45 I'm 5'8' eigh 240lbs my co morbidare whats driving my desire for VSG more than even weight. I have sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension, sore joints ....all those fluggy girl things lol but seriously he is a specialist and he does not know about my journey to WLS yet(he will next week). He has never mentioned my weight as an obstacle. My husband has the fertility issue but of course my age is considered. My reserve is decent for my age. He will use Menopur injectables and try intauterine insemination ( 3 attempts). We have no coverage for fertility treatment and can't afford the 15,000+ for IVF. -
Well I really need some feed back on this one. Do I begin fertilty treatments or have the surgery first? The problem is the age factor. My ob/gyn has told us because of issues with my husband and my age we would need fertility treatments to have a higher chance of concieving. However, he is not willing to do treatments after 46 years of age and guess who turns 46 this year, ME! He is willing to try 3 cycles which will give me a weight gain of course. The road to surgery is just lacking insurance approval, waiting on me to tell them to submit. If I have the surgery I woudl have to wait a year before we could try and that puts me closer to 48. I have fought thru months of mental and emotional stress, research, reading, praying all to get to a comfortable place about doing the surgery now this. And it's a major this! My ob/gyn has no issues with my weight or co-morbities because they are "controlled" with meds. I am confused as to which way to I go. Any comments are shared experiences would ne greatly appreciated. Thinking about the increased weight with treatments and pregnancy if that would be healthy enough to carry a baby. So many things whirling around in my mind.

What a 150 lb weight loss looks like...
misslady replied to nikki82's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow wow wow gorgeous. You look younger, lighter, and a head full of hair still! Do you use the protein shakes as well? -
WOW I am sorry that something like that happened before such a major milestone in your life where support is needed! BUT that could just be more "dead" weight you had to shed so that you can really fly lighter after your surgery. If he didn't recognize the jewel inside of you good riddance and let it be motivation to work that sleeve and get fine as hell!!! That is the best revenge living a good or even better life after they are gone honey.
