Btw, the main reason I started thinking about this surgery is that she says she has never had the feeling of fullness. I thought this would be the best way to help her with that. Also, she already knows she has to do the pre surgery diet for the full 2 weeks prior to surgery. If she messes up once she does not get it. If she cant do the diet for 2 weeks she cant do it for life.

Thank you NurseBarbie for your help. I ultimately do not know what its like to be obese as a teen. I was 5'3 and weighed between 130 and 150 throughout high school. Not skinny but definitely not fat and I remember having people say a few mean things to me. I couldn't imagine how bad it would be if I had been my daughter's size. Your absolutely right about kids younger than her having kids. If someone made me choose between her getting the sleeve or having a baby of course there would not be a seconds thought given to the decision. I am terrified of her having this surgery but I am more worried about walking in and finding her dead from suicide because she couldn't deal with the weight and bullying. She has alot of life and fun to live and we all know how hard that is too do when you are 100 pounds overweight. I don't want her to miss out over it. I can find 50 cons and 50 pros, it is literally the hardest decision ever. I think I will go talk to her doctor and a psychologist but I am going to keep our dates and I will cancel if they think its a bad idea. As far as being a plant, I don't understand what the point of that would be. Isn't that usually someone who is trying to get you to use a certain doctor, not someone asking for help.

This is definitely the hardest decision. Her doctor has really not given an opinion on wls. She has done dier pills, diet programs, weight watchers, all the stuff we have all done but she has no results. The doctors cant find a reason why but she doesn't lose weight. I am just torn. Idw her to have to go through high school suffering and have to do this at 18 anyway and all that could have been prevented. On the other hand I dont want to do the surgery and she cant handle it and winds up worse than she is. Its just horrible.

I have not made up my mind at all. I was just answering questions. My daughter has not been to a psychologist for this but she does see one regularly becauae she suffers from severe shyness. I did talk to her psychologist about this a little and she thinks she will be okay for surgery and she thinks it will help alot for her shyness. She is of course a child psychologist and does not do WLS evals.

Dr. Garcia
wannabaloser replied to saffikeagan 8/31/13's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am scheduled with Dr. Garcia for August 10th and just found out its now at Florence Hospital. It appears to be bigger and nicer than MiHospital but I haven't had much time to check it out. Alma made it sound like they switched because of that and they were able to get it for the same price as MiDoctor. -
Dr. Alverez's niece was actually 12, she is 14 or 15 now. I am using Dr. Garcia but she is one of the big decisions I went ahead with surgery plans for my daughter. My daughter is mature but all teenagers have their moments. This is a very hard decision but its so hard seeing her about to go through the misery of being obese that I have gone through. What scares me is her doing through her already hard teenage years. I did not become overweight until I was 22 and went through a severe depression. I couldn't imagine dealing with all this as a teenager.

She wants the surgery very badly. I explain the details daily. I also made her download this board on her phone and she has to read posts everyday on it. She is made to keep a food journal and use myfitnesspal. She knows the good, bad, and ugly. She knows she will change alot of things with the surgery and she says she is okay with that. Of course, we all say we are ready, even adults, but its different when its over and done with. Our insurance doesn't cover this so we are self pay and don't have to go for a psych evaluation. We have found other kids who did it at her age. One of the Doctors in Mexico even did a 12 year old. And they all seem to be doing great.

hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism
wannabaloser replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry I can't help you with that because I have NO idea what it is. My question is how did you loose so much weight in such a short amount of time? I was in shock when I saw your surgery date and your weight loss!! That is AMAZING!!! I am having surgery March 9. I am 32 and weigh 310. Its mostly in my stomach after 3 c-sections. Do you have any suggestions to lose quickly like you? You are awesome and should be very proud of yourself. I hope this medical issue is not anything serious and hopefully not from the surgery after how hard you have worked. -
How much cash?
wannabaloser replied to fletcherette's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My date is the 9th so I have been wondering the same things. My husband is going with me so I know he is going to want to eat. I hope I feel up to doing something also because I feel bad making him set in a hotel and hospital for his whole vacation. I also am going to bring extra just in case they were to have to fix something else in me such as a hernia. -
MiDoctor Hospital 2013 Roll Call RECAP
wannabaloser replied to Armywife29's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Oh wow, that sucks!! I will be there March-13, if I get my taxes back by then. If not I will have to move it back also. Do you have to do another 2 weeks of the diet? -
Thank you! I will defintely check Kayak out!
-
You don't want me to answer that!! I overpack no matter what! I will have 2 full suitcases for a one night stay. My husband gets so mad at me. He says I pack stuff I have not touched in over a year. I am trying to go light since we are flying and we have to pay for extra bags but I start panicing if I think I don't have everything!!

It may be cheaper but it would probably take 3 days to get there. Buses don't take the quickest route. They go through and make stops in all the towns between here and there. I have heard of it taking someone 1 full day to get to a place that was only 6 hours away normally. I could not even imagine what it would take to get from the east side of TX all the way to the west side of CA. I would much rather pay the difference and get there in 3 hours.
-
Yep and the closer you book to the date the more expensive the tickets get. I checked 2 weeks ago and the tickets were just over $200 but I didn't buy them. I checked today and the tickets are $300-400. I can't order them until this Friday so I am scared to see what they will be.

Question about Protein and Water
wannabaloser posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for surgery on March 9 with Dr. Fernando Garcia. I start my two week pre-surgery diet next Saturday the 23rd. My diet is one protein shake for breakfast, one for lunch, a salad with protein such as chicken, and a shake for snack if needed. My question is, if I make my shakes with water do I include that in my water intake for the day? If so does it still count toward water consumption after surgery? I am using myfitnesspal.com to keep track of my food, water, and exercise so I want to make sure I am doing it correctly. Thanks!!! I am getting so excited!! -
Why Choose Mexico for your WLS?
wannabaloser replied to DebDUtah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Money is my reason as well. My insurance does not cover WLS and I cannot afford 20K for it in the US. I could save money and do it in a year or so but once I made the decision I wanted to have the surgery right then. My surgery was March 23 and I was so excited I moved it to March 9. There is no way I could wait a year or longer. Also the Mexico surgeons have done thousands of these surgeries due to Medical Tourism whereas American surgeons have only done hundreds. You never hear of people coming to America from another country to have surgery so these other countries must be doing something right. I know it is scary but these doctors are all in border towns that are really not that different from the US towns 2 miles away from them. I live in TX and have been to some border towns and if I did go through all the hoopla to get in and out I would never have known I had crossed the border. If you don't have insurance you should research Mexico and see if it is right for you. -
Question about Protein and Water
wannabaloser replied to wannabaloser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great!! I love water but it sounded hard to drink 64oz plus all the protein shakes plus the food we are allowed. Especially since we can't drink for 30 minutes before or after eating. Thanks!! -
Question about Protein and Water
wannabaloser replied to wannabaloser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I assumed I did if I used water but I didn't want to mess my intake up. I am really not a milk drinker but I will definitely try it with the protein shakes. It seems like it would make them taste better. I am ordering samples of different brands to try and see what I like. I plan on having enough for pre and post op so I can see what I like after surgery before buying a large quantity. Thanks and any other suggests that you have for pre or post of are greatly appreciated!! I am going to Mexico and I am worried about not having a strict diet to go by afterwards. I do best if I am told exactly what to have and how much and when. I am thinking about trying to find a bariatric nutritionist for post op to keep me on track. My insurance does not pay for anything relating to weight loss so I don't know if that would be excluded or not. Ugh! I am just worrying about everything. I have so many lists of what I need, and do's and don'ts from posts I have read on here. I am driving myself crazy thinking about it!! -
I will take them if no one else has yet. I am preop so I am trying out different brands before buying alot.
