Wow great job. I know Its not easy even with just a little stomach.
-
I am on a early stall too. I lost 12 pounds the first 7 days I was home and the scale has not moved since. I had my surgery Feb 27, Kindove discouraging when I am really staying on track with the protein and water.
-
Couldn't wait for my mushy food. I had eggs. What a disappointment! Now I'm just mad that I have to wait 15-30 minutes to take a drink of fluid. Couldn't even eat the 4 ounces. Maybe tomorrow I will try cream of wheat. I am scared that I will never be brave enough to eat real food again I'm so careful what to moniter the way I feel and the things I put in my mouth.

That is mind blowing! I am 11 days out and I've lost 15. But I bought a new fancy scale that measures your bones, body fat, weight etc. But every time I get on it says something else. Kindove discouraging. I am still in a bit of pain and still on pain meds so I'm not exactly a regular in the oval office if you know what I mean. I think they constipate you I'm wondering if that's a factor in the scale not budging too much in the last couple of days. I also haven't been getting all my protein in. Im going to try getting all my protein in and see if that makes a difference as well. Do you mind me asking what your beginning stats are?

is this something to be concerned about?
jacee posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 11 days post op, yesterday I started to get a soreness about the size of my hand starting at the big incision and down the front of my abdomen again about the size of my hand. Its a new soreness like a giant bruise. It hurts more to bend over and turn even on my good side in bed. Has anyone else felt this pain? Is it something I should worry about? I was doing relatively good. Getting better each day. This seems like a set back. -

You are so not alone. I cry almost everyday and hate everybody including the cat...lol I am grateful for the opportunity too but my emotions are all over the map! I've spent more time on Craigslist looking for a 1 bedroom apartment then I am embarrassed to admit ( I am a married mom of 3 kids and I live in a large comfy home) soo you get my drift...If I can make it out of this without moving out or killing the cat..its all good Things will get better for us. -
also, just a rambling thought from my husband when I read him this ( now the kids are having a full on debate about it at the dinner table) that back in the day they used to give you shots of testosterone before surgery apparently it gives you a false sense of feeling better afterwords. Not sure about this but he does watch a lot of the Discovery Channel so their is a good chance this could be true...

Got up at 6am took a dose of liquid pain meds got the kids up for school, then I made them some chocolate chip pancakes put a few dishes in the dishwasher, and BAM ran to the bathroom. Wasnt sure which end it was going to come out of but I didn't care as long as it came out. I know (TMI) Then reluctantly spent my morning working on office work, dragged myself to see two clients came home thought maybe a protein shake (my first whole one since surgery) may perk me up with the calories, I put in all my liquid vitamins into the small remainder of my shake and shook it up (havent been able to take my vitamins since sugery either) wasn't too sure how it was going to taste, but not bad. Most importantly, I drank it all. Then after a lil nap, I woke up and did 10 minutes on my elliptical!! of course level 1 and Zero resistance, nothing Jillian Michaels would get excited over but hey, It got me movin. As I am writing this my stomach sounds (and looks a lot like) I am 8 months pregnant with a very angry growly lil monster...lol. Hes been with me a week now every since about day 2 post op. Grrrr. My husband swears he cant hear the gnarly loud sounds coming from my stomach but how could he not...I can hear them...24/7 The good news..I have lost 10 pounds. My diet currently consists of sf jello sf popsickles low fat cream of chicken lots and lots of water premier protien shakes Hope all you February Sleevers are starting to feel better

Newly sleeved 2.28.13
jacee replied to prettylittleheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mactrio, Wow you have lost 25 lbs in just 9 days? Was any of the pre surgery? Its just my opinion, but my surgery was on the 27th, and I am drinking a bit more than you are able too. Some ideas to drink more are set a H20 goal Set a timer add some flavor to your water keep track on paper how much is going in use a sippy cup or a shot glass try some strained out egg drop Soup. Its sooo good. Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try taking a little bit bigger sips, I did and it wasn't bothersome. Every day I am drinking more and more, I will admit the protien shakes make my stomach do flips although I drink about a quarter of the box anyway I am getting in about 64 ounces of Fluid. Maybe if you could consume more fluid, you would feel better. That and being as active as possible. Just move your body every hour. It makes you feel so much more positive and its a good at keeping your risk of blood clots lower. The gas pains, I hear ya sister! I think I may be healed already if it weren't for those. They are relentless and excruciating. I too have not had too many bms obviously creating the horrible gas. I took MofM its not a wonder potion but it did help a tiny bit. I really hope each day finds new and improved healing for you! Keep posting! J -

Newly sleeved 2.28.13
jacee replied to prettylittleheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
nurse told me i can take a capsule of stool softner and that helped. Hello, Did you take a capsule or gel cap? Also what kind was it? Skip this line if your queasy TMI but a bowel movement at this stage of the game consists of liquid. Hey I am gratefull for that even. As it eases 3/4 of the worst of it for awhile. Out of 12 trips to the bathroom, I may be able to go 1 time. Its discouraging, cause its the only thing that helps. This too shall pass...I know..just wish it would hurry up. J -
Newly sleeved 2.28.13
jacee replied to prettylittleheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2-27, at first in the hospital I thought wow, this is it, well its awesome. very litlle pain, felt like myself, and thought I can totally handle this. However, I forgot one thing...I was hooked up to a Dilated pump and getting shots of Toradol every couple hours. My head could have missing and I would have felt the same way...lol Facing reality at home minus the hi powered pain pumps and booster shots its a lil different. In my experience you have to have some level of tough-girl in you. Yes there are some posters out there who had surgery within days of me who are already walking a mile and a half and shopping at Wal Mart. Thats Great. I am jealous and happy for you. With that said thats not the case here. I am sleeping on my side, with the assistance of two stuffed pillows one in my back holding up pressure their and one on the opposite side holding the pressure under the length of my stomach, I do not lay on the side of my worst upper left incision. I do not sleep through the night. The pain from my incisions, and the relentless monster growling painful gas that goes on minute after minute I suffer the worst from the gas that just likes to camp out in my intestines. I take 15 mg of Oxycodone every 3 hours , or one an hour. I get up every couple hours to walk my house and go to the bathroom and literally have a heart to heart with god about how good I will be if he just lets me go number 2..lol. ( its gotta relieve that gas right?) Last night I got so desperate at 4 am I bit open a colace and sucked the inside out. I couldn't just take it because it was a gel cap, apparently a big no-no. It tasted like rat poison. Not doing that again. I have to have my husband help me in and out of our bed, (it is a lil high up) I also have to wake him up several times each time in the middle of the night to do this. I have had issues with diverticulitis in the last couple of years which I associate with the super sensitivity to the horrendous gas pains which I can only compare to end stage labor pains. I have taken gasx strips, milk of magnesia and the colace I bit into. And yes I walk walk walk and sip sip sip. Does my actual stomach hurt? no just the gas in my intestines. Am I hungry? No not at all Have I lost weight? Yes like 7 pounds in 5 days. Do I regret my decision to be sleeved? No I am in this for the long haul and cant wait to see my results in 6 months. Am I a whiner? Maybe. But I don't remember reading this on posts before I got my surgery. Maybe I didn't want to see the rough parts and only focused on the before and after pics. Just keeping it real by telling my own experience. I have been joking the last couple days saying they should have a "victims panel" (LOL)in one of the required pre op classes. Real ppl telling their real accounts of the different stages of the surgery (good bad indifferent ) would have been enlightening and I could refer to that as I go through each stage. With all this said. I am happy with my decision. I am excited for the future. This isn't easy for my right now where I am on day 5 it can be frustrating, I'm sure lack of sleep, chronic pain and hormones on fire are fueling the fire. Fine. I can deal with it. Just venting. Thanks for listening, without judgement I hope. J -
My stomach or what feels like my intestine has had a really loud persistent gurgling every minute of the last 10 hours Its like a rumbling monster that starts up in my left upper quadrant, and roars down like its going to be gas then painfully stops and shoots the gurgling back in to my gut. I have taken gas x strips, and have the colace but havent taken any because they are gel caps and Ive heard that we cant take gel caps. I have only passed gas once and almost went in my pants. I have not had a bm since surgery Wed but have only been drinking water and gatorade a little tomato juice and some sips of protein drink, which I think was the problem. Sorry for the TMI but you ladies are so good at having answers to these things and I am desperate. I have put a call into my dr but I know someone out there must have had a similar experience and I would like your thoughts/advice. Thank you!

Thank you, the strange thing is I have been walking and walking every since day 1 in the middle of the night I get 4-5 times and walk around my bedroom. I will try just clear liquids today my stomach sounds like a commercial washing machine and guys give great advice too.

4 days out... Frustrated
jacee replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also on day four and in the same boat you are in. I also cant get out of bed or off the couch without help because my incisions on the left are so painful. I have only drank water, g2 gatorade, tomato juice and some protein shake. The pain meds do little to take away the pain and I count the time between them because I need to take them again so bad. I was hoping to go back to work on Monday (desk job) but I walk around hunched over and in pain. I know that we need to keep our eye on the prize but this first week SUCKS! I look at others who flew through this and I'm super envious, even some that walk like a mile and half allready, or go shopping. Wow.. I had my surgery Wednesday and I dont think even a car ride would be a good idea. I am walking like crazy in my house and sipping water, I know that I will eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel but not today..lol. -
I had my surgery on Wednesday at about 4pm. I woke up in the recovery room in severe pain and naseau. Took me a while to shake that off, then eventually they brought me to my room. Although I dont remember getting to the room just being their. I was not on a morphine pump instead they gave my dilauted. Apparently a very high dose as the nurse kept reminding me as though it bothered her. My pain level in the hospital for the most part ran about 4-5-6 I did not sleep the one night in the hospital ( I only stayed one night) I was comfortable for the most part, my right upper quadrant incision where they removed my stomach was really the worst of it. That and the itching. I finally took the leq squeezers off they use to prevent blood clots off becuase they made me itch like I was in a torcher chamber. I dosed off for about 45 minutes at a time. They also gave me Zolfran for nauseau. Which worked well. In the hospital I drank water mainly from a sponge stick, and the second day I was able to drink most of an optifast carmel protein shake (pretty good but I heard they are expensive) I read these boards enough to know that I needed to walk as much as I could and thats what I did. I think I got myself up and walked at least 6 times during the middle of the night, despite how uncomfortable and exhuasting it was. I also made myself drink, sip, suck as much water mainly at first from the sponge stick, but then graduation to drinking it from a one ounce cup. Drinking fluids gave me a full feeling that was uncomfortable, Then I would stop and wait for it to pass and start over. I knew from reading these boards that those were a priority and I knew I wanted the best outcome. I was released from the hospital yesterday (Thursday) around 4:30 pm. I had taken a shower and had a general sound and good feeling. I had a 2.5 hour trip home in the car, so I decided not to take any pain medications, afraid they would make me car sick. By the time I got home I was in immense pain, exhaustion, nauseau. I went down to my bed and felt like I was or wanted to die. I had gotten myself in a postion where I was too ill to take pain pills, I was starting to dry heave and I was beyond exhausted from not sleeping at the hospital. I forced the water just a tiny bit and passed out for 1 hour, when I woke up I knew I was going to throw up. And I also knew that doing so was going to be hell on my incisions. And I was right, I tried to hold my stomach as best as I could and I wished that I could actually throw up and get it over with but it was just the dry heaves. The nurse who discharged me told me that I would have to call in the morning to get a script for anti nauseau. So I had nothing to fend off the nauseau all night last night..GRRR not a good idea. Always go home from the hospital with nausuea medicine in hand. Throughout the night I would wake up every 2 hours and suck water off my sponge and walk in my room. Getting in and out of bed was excruciating, but again the importance of that was pounded in my head from this forum. Last night was HELL. I will be honest. I am hoping for better days ahead. I always searched these boards for true accounts of the first couple days so I hope accounting mine will prepare you in a positive way.
-
True I am prone to being nauseaus. in the back of a car, carnival rides, plane rides, pregnancy..maybe that pre disposes you to a better a chance at being nauseaus. Something to consider.
-
So I did it! Iwas sleeved yesterday about 3 , came out of the or feeling horrible I mean really bad I felt and couldn't snap out of this black hole that was the worst didn't sleep much last night but the only thing that hurt was the incision under my rib cage . Today just sleepy and on pain meds but I am shocked at how easy this is really I'm drinking water and walking I feel alot better than I ever imagined I would I'm so excited to get discharged and get home and I haven't eaten since Monday but I have no hunger.

Surgery in the morning...and I am not scared anymore
jacee posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have surgery tomorrow, I was nervous, uneasy, but a sense of calm has come over me. I am proud of forging ahead into something that scares the hell out of me for a chance at a better quality of life and not letting my fears and insecurities deny me the opportunity. I feel like a have a chance at a new life. I am really appreciative of that. Blessings, j
