What are good rest days ?

Contrast showers are showers that alternate between very hot and very cold Water. The goal of these showers is to improve circulation and help reduce muscle soreness.

    runners?

Slip on a pair of good running sneaks and set out the door, or on to a treadmill. Start small...try 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 mile distance and don't worry about speed. Just move for as long as you can at a tolerable pace. You will be sore the day after but you will grin from ear to ear because you did it! They day after, walk or bike instead of running to give your muscles a break and then try another run the day after that. Over time, you will know when to push a little farther and a little faster. Your body will let you know when it's ready. Good luck to you and enjoy!

What are good rest days ?

I work out Sunday thru Friday and rest on Saturday. I am very low carb always (exept veggies and avocado) and that doesn't change on Saturday, but it is a very true rest day. I get a 90 minute massage every other Saturday, run errands, do laundry, no working out of any type. I don't change my eating on Saturdays. I just don't work out. In July, my company shuts down for the week of the 4th. I took a complete rest that entire week. I will do it again in December when we shut down for Christmas week. So for two full weeks every year, six months apart, I did and will, continue to take a full workout break. I did modify my eating a tiny bit during that week, but because I am pretty low carb always, I didn't change too much. I actually enjoy my Saturday breaks each week and I think my body deserves it. The full week break was also nice, but I don't think I could do it more often than two times per year. The company shut down helps make it possible because my entire routine is up ended by the shutdown. This routine has been working for me and I have seen great results but I do not think it is uncommon for serious trainers to take the weekend off. I say do whatever works for you. Your body does need rest, it's simply a matter of degree. Maybe try a 6-day workout cycle with one rest day versus two and see how your body responds. I have a friend who workouts seven days a week. She feels it works for her, but she is often ill or otherwise injured, so it might not be working for her so well, IMO. Trial and error, I say.

Nursebarbie, I am sorry you have had negative experiences here. Hang in there. You will become Internet friends with folks here over time and it will really make your journey feel as though you have company.

    Three Year Update

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story. It is so helpful to hear from veteran sleevers. Your baby girl is beautiful.
  14. I had surgery February 4, 2013 and have had zero problems other than the post surgical pain for about 2-3 days.
  15. I was working out on the elliptical and driving 7 days post op. Check with your surgeon's office. Generally, it is largely based on being off narcotics and how you feel but some surgeons require rest for longer periods.

    Hair loss

I take biotin but my hair has been falling out for the past two months. Based on what I've read, I am resolved to just letting it run its course. Supposedly it seems to get better about 6 months post op.

    Popcorn

I think popcorn is a slider food for many of us. I have only had it once or twice post op, but I've relegated it to 'treat' status because it goes down super easily, thus making it easy to eat too much of it. I don't think there is anything wrong with it technically, although some surgeons don't allow it. My issue with it is that it is basically empty calories. Aside from the Fiber, it's basically a big bowl of carbs.

    Low H&H

It has not happened to me and I am sorry it has you freaked out. I imagine your doc may run additional tests to determine whether there is an underlying disease causing your low hemo & crit. If there isn't an underlying disease cause, it can easily be cleared up with supplementation of iron and vitamins. Hang in there.

    Hot/Cold Drinks

I was able to tolerate both cold and hot liquids after being sleeved. I enjoyed a nice steamy cup of tea on day 3 post op as well as a popscicle. Everyone is different and my best advice to you is simply to try both and see if you are able to tolerate them a few days post op.
