    Question

The day after surgery is 1 day post op.

    Bread? Salad?

I am a few days shy of 3 months post op and I comfortably eat salads multiple times per week. I don't eat bread so I don't know about that one.

    Food Scale!

I got a food scale a few weeks ago and I love it. You will like being able to positively know exactly how much you are eating.

    "Allowed" Foods?

My surgeon did not provide any foods I cannot eat. I just can't eat very much. He did restrict carbonation for 3 months post op and coffee for 6 weeks post op. i was also advised bread may not agree with me if it is not toasted (it actually doesn't bother me at all) He also worked with me and my nutritionist to educate about food choices, but there is nothing I cannot eat. I eat a pretty clean diet of whole foods, no refined sugars or starches. I have chosen not to eat rice, Pasta, or bread of any kind any longer, but that was on me. It was not a medical requirement. Your doctor will likely have his/her own requirements.

Confused. Can we or cant we..?

My surgeon did not place any such restrictions on me. In fact, he specifically said I could have all of them but not before 3 months out, in very small quantities. He also said post surgery some of these things may no longer agree with me. Soda is probably one that won't because the carbonation might be painful. Honestly, I haven't had the desire yet (except coffe, which I have been able to drink since 6 weeks out) but I am looking forward to a glass of wine.

TMI: is throwing up different on the sleeve?

IMO, throwing up post sleeve does not feel any different than throwing up pre sleeve. What DOES feel different for me is the sensation BEFORE throwing up. Typically, if I have to throw up post sleeve, I feel it in my chest and throat. Almost as if those areas are blocked and then I run to a sink. Pre sleeve, if I had to throw up I felt it in my stomach. For me, I think the reasons were user error related. Not chewing enough or eating too fast. I have not actually thrown up because of nausea since being sleeved. Anyway, now that I am close to three months post op, I have solved those earlier issues and don't have the vomiting urge any longer.

    Refined beans

There is no such thing as "refined beans". I am absolutely sure you are looking at a typo meant to state "refried beans".

    can I still eat out?

As long as you make good choices, you can successfully eat out all you want. You simply can't eat a terrific amount and will want to choose your food wisely.
  13. Isn't that just the cutest! I love kittens.

    The beloved "Food Funeral".

Yes. My surgery and recovery were complication free and since my last weigh two weeks ago, I am down 64 lbs. I did have some trouble keeping food down once I was able to eat solids but it was likely due to user error; specifically, not chewing enough and not feeling the restriction right away...probably because I was still healing. By week 6, I was able to clearly feel restriction before I even got full, so that has become my cue to stop eating. If you are anything like many users here, you will love your sleeve.

    The beloved "Food Funeral".

Good for you LipstickLady! I was sleeved in February and I did not have a food funeral either. It was not a deliberate decision, I just didn't feel the need for one and I have never regretted that. Best of luck to you during pre-op diet, surgery and beyond. I am sure you will do great with your new tool

    Los Angeles, CA

Hello everyone from Marina del Rey. I was sleeved on February 4, 2013.

    Ahhhhhh! Victory!

Congratulations! I've decided to look at stalls as the body's way of catching up all around and simply re-booting. Good things happen during stalls even if the scale doesn't recognize it. Good for you!

    WATERMELON!?

Thanks for the info magpie30. That is good to know.

    WATERMELON!?

I love watermelon too. I was sleeved in February and have not asked specifically about watermelon but I fully intend to have some this summer. I cannot imagine why it would be bad...maybe the sugar. Even so, I still intend to have some.
  23. WTH! What a nightmare. I hope you are doing better. Such an odd thing. I was not aware it was possible to have a leak 4 months out. Take care of yourself. Glad you were observant.
  24. Beautiful transformation. Congratulations!
