  1. I am also march 1st!!!! My preop diet is kicking my butt! Here is my daily menu: Breakfast: Protein shake, 8oz skim milk or FF yogurt Mid morning: Fiber supplement (basically benefiber mixed with Water, crystal light, broth or Vitamin water zero) Lunch: Protein Shake, milk or yogurt, fiber supplement Afternoon: 1 cup raw veggies Dinner: protein shake, fiber supplement Before bed: protein shake, milk or yogurt I WISH I could have some actual meat or cheese on this thing but no such luck. My head hunger is getting the best of me and all I want to do is eat but I can do this if I really put my mind to it!!! Our surgery is right around the corner :-)
  2. Hi all! My name is Jennifer. I live in Orlando, FL and I am very excited to start this process. I recently switched insurances after I found out that the insurance through my new job covers bariatric surgery! My husband and I are both having the surgery done (hopefully soon)! We have chosen Dr. Kim at Florida Hospital Celebration! We meet with his nurse practitioner tomorrow to see which medical clearances we need! Hopefully we will get our surgery dates soon! I am loving this forum....all the support and encouragement is great! I will keep y'all posted throughout my journey! Keep those before/after pics coming because those are keeping me motivated :-)

    About time

I got some premier protein and they are good! However, there is a brand called nectar made by syntax and if you google them it will take you to their website and you can order some samples! They have tons of flavors and I am looking fowler war to doing this soon :-)

I barely got through day one...pre-op

I'm also on day 3...it's tough, I'm not going to lie. I never thought I would want some plain 'ol grilled chicken as much as I did last night!!! I can honestly say that my body doesn't feel hungry and I think it's really all head hunger! One thing I can say is I feel like I'm totally out of energy and very CRANKY but I will do my best to hang in there :-)
  7. So I started my 2 week preop liquid diet today...its been tough and I'm only 4 hours in. I CAN do this though! I know it will all be worth it in the end. Any suggestions to make these next two weeks easier for myself and everyone around me :-)

    About time

I saw it on GNCs website. It was like $30-40. I haven't actually been into a GNC yet bc I've heard they are very expensive :-(

    About time

Thanks! Yeah my NUT said less than 5 grams of carbs and 20-30g protein...finding something that low in carbs has been a little difficult but this brand has no carbs, no fat and 30g protein ( and it comes in fun flavors like birthday cake!)

    Diabetes

Hey everyone! Just curious as to how many of you had type 2 diabetes before your sleeve and did the sleeve CURE your diabetes and if so how long did it take? My dad is considering having the sleeve as well but had heard that the RNY was better at curing diabetes....any input would be great!

    Diabetes

Agreed! We all went to an information session about our surgeon and the program he offers. My husband and I had already made up our minds that we wanted the VSG. However my dad wasn't really sure...after the info session he, too, decided on the VSG. He met with our surgeons Nurse Practitioner the other day and she said that she would recommend the RNY over the VSG for him because it would totally cure his Diabetes instead of just improving it. This threw a wrench into things bc after that he wasn't so sure! I told him that either one could assist him with getting rid of his diabetes, one just may take a little longer than the other! It's a personal choice that only he can make!

    March 1st

I have a tentative date for March 1st with Dr. Kim in Orlando! Very excited. Will start my preop diet Feb 4th AFTER my birthday weekend getaway :-)

    March 1st

Good luck FabForty!!! I wish you well and hope you have a speedy recovery once your big day comes! It will be here before we know it!!!!

    Diabetes

Thank you all for the information! My father is currently on two different insulins and two different oral meds for diabetes. Like I said, he is trying to decide VSG vs RNY....he will be paying out of pocket for his surgery so he, of course, wants to make the best decision and only do the surgery once! I think this info will help solidify his decision for the VSG....it may be slower (around 3-4 months) before he is off all of his medications but VSG is significantly cheaper when paying out of pocket too! Thanks again!!!

    March 1st

Hey Tara My surgery date got moved up a day to Feb 28th! Are you still scheduled for March 1st? My pt advocate called and told me that they had some scheduling issues on March 1st so she needed to either move me up or make me wait until March 22nd! No way did I want to wait!!

    Boils!

Katie I have seeked help from numerous board certified dermatologists. Fortunately, Hidradenitis Suppurativa and MRSA are two completely different things. MRSA has a cure where HS does not! Just because HS presents as "boils" does not automatically make the MRSA. At times, I wish this were MRSA so that they could easily fix me with antibiotics and so that I wouldn't have to live with this agony

    Boils!

Hi! I too suffer from Hidradenitis Suppurativa. I have it pretty bad under my arms, breasts and in my groin. I have tried everything from my dermatologist but nothing really helps it. I've been dealing with this since I was 13 (I've also been overweight my entire life). I'm hoping this surgery helps with my HS because some days the pain is unbearable!

    March 1st

Hi Tara! So my surgery date for march 1st was tentative but I just heard from my patient advocate that it is official!!! That would be neat if we were in preop together! Keep me posted :-)
  19. Hey everyone! I am so excited that my surgery is just a month away!!!! However, I have to admit that since I have been reading some posts I am really afraid of the pain afterwards. I have had a few surgeries in the past for various things and probably the most involved was a c-section. Just curious....anyone out there have a c-section and WLS? How do the two compare pain wise??
  20. What a great birthday gift!!! Good luck to you and hope you have a speedy recovery! I am a few weeks behind you (march 1) and I will start my preop diet after this weekend (we are going out of town for my birthday). Very excited but nervous!
  21. Hi everyone! So I met with my surgeons nurse practitioner and my patient advocate yesterday and they scheduled (tentatively) my surgery for March 1st! I'm just waiting on basically one paper from my primary and I should be able to get that soon so my surgery date hopefully shouldn't change! Starting my "preop" diet soon! I'm so excited but, of course, nervous of the unknown!!!
  22. Thank you! I'm very excited. Have you had your surgery yet? How was it?
