Think about it like this, on weight watchers, avg person loses 1-1.5 lbs per week. You are killing it compared to the rest of them in the diet struggling weight loss world! Your body has been totally turned upside down in the past 30 days! Keep drinking water, keep or get exercising and focus on getting your protein in and the rest will take care of itself! -

I can completely relate about the mental back and forth! I just had my sleeve 11 days ago, I decided to tell only a few people and honestly they were friends who I knew would support me, it's what i needed to get me through the 2 week pre op. I didn't tell my mom or my sister (who is still so mad at being kept in the dark she isn't speaking to me) who found out by accident when my 9 yr old who told my dad who just happened to call the day after surgery I was in the hospital for my stomach. Dad called my mom and from there it totally unraveled. And my sister is STILL angry because she says I should have told her because she deserved a chance to see me before surgery that significant because what if I hadn't made it through? See, it's all about THEM! So I say you go with you gut! I am more convinced post op given the reactions of those I chose not to tell (mother in law included) i absolutely made the right choice on not telling them, good luck on your journey, I feel for you, follow your heart, keep God by your side, he'll guide you through this journey! -

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, yes, in live in Cleveland, a suburb about 10 miles west of downtown. 11 days post op and starting towards feeling like myself, only 30 LBS lighter (from the day I started pre op diet) so for the most part I really can't complain! The recovery after surgery was much more than expected especially the gas pain in my left shoulder and the horrible nausea. How have you been doing? You just had your surgery right? -

Oh and on the vitamins, my surgeon said to not worry about them for now, the iron could make you feel worse plus, he said we can go at least a month before we are depleted to the point where we'd have concern. I had my surgery at the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic, my surgeon is pretty amazing so I really trust his advice. He said OK to take the B12, plus the 2 meds he prescribed for the gall stones and the stomach acid. He also said to start with Flinstones chewables, 2 per day in about a month -

I couldn't pass the gas either, I am 10 days post op today. I asked my surgeon if I could stay an extra day, there was no way I was ready to go home 2 days post op! I finally started passing the gas on day 6! It really helped to have my husband drive me around, hit a few bumps and pot holes to jar things up a bit, them, lay on your back and try to pull your knees up to your chest and take some deep breaths, it worked like a charm for me! -
Had surgery 2 days ago..

I was so nauseas from the minute I woke up in recovery (January 22nd) until about 2 days ago. They had me on a patch I wore behind my ear plus a liquid medication in had to choke back every 6 hours. My surgeon told me it was OK to try some eggs, cottage cheese, and yogurt which definitely helped, I think it was all the protein shakes were just really getting to me. Water doesn't go down well still, so I keep sipping G2 which seems more salty than before surgery but it is much better than the water for me. The good news is I am 30 LBS down since the 1st day of pre op diet Jan 8th. I think it will start to get better for all of us-this is way different than what I had pictured in my mind, good, bad or indifferent we need to try and get our brains around how real this journey is now! -

Start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow!
kellimcc replied to himalaya62's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just finished my 2 week pre-op diet, since yesterday I am on clear fluids only-surgery tomorrow!! The Cleveland Clinic requires all bariatric patients do the full liquid diet. I have heard others say they were allowed small portions of meat and veggies for dinner, but that wasnt an option for me and to be honest, I am glad it was that way. I dont think I would have had the self control to just eat a little, for me, its all or nothing. After the 2nd day, it was actually pretty easy! I went with a very hight protein shake, Premier Protein, you can get a case at Costco for like $24. I got choolate and vanilla, the vanilla is a little too sweet for me, the chocolate I have to say is actually really good! They have only 160 calories, 30 grams of protein, 5 carb and like 2 or 3 sugars, so they are a very good choice as far as protein shakes go. I found the sugar free popcilcles helpful too, just when I need something to crunch on. Also, the jello helped, I maybe had 2 of those each day, maybe 3 or 4 popcicles. And, dont foget the Gatorade, that will also help get you over the hump when you start to feel like you need some other flavor. The shakes kept me full, so my "issues" I had with not eating were not at all about being hungry-but hey, that's why I am in the shape I am, and that's what I've kept in front of my mind every time I was making a meal for one of my kids, or packing a lunch. It wont be that long before you and I will be able to have a few bites of our favorite foods again. But, the whole purpose of the surgery is to help us learn to eat to live, not live to eat. You'll be fine, just go into it like you have no choice but follow the instuctions of the diet. I didnt cheat at all, I am really proud of myself, it gave me the momentum going into surgery tomorrow that I really need, and hey, I lost 18 LBS to boot! Good luck and keep us posted on how you do! -
