How long did it take you to decide to have surgery
Lorie269 replied to MissyLINY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had toyed with the idea of WLS for a few years. It wasn't until the beginning of 2013 that I decided once and for all that I was at least going to go to a seminar. That date, January 11, 2013 changed my life. I left the seminar just knowing that I wanted to start living again and made an appointment the very next day for my inital consult. I used the next five months of my pre-op diet to learn everything I could about the sleeve and on July 26, 2013 I had my surgery. Now, 6 months and 104 lbs lighter, I am so glad that I finally had the courage to attend that seminar. Like others, I only wish I had it done sooner. -
Hair loss. Canvassing for Dates when it started/finished
Lorie269 replied to Madam Reverie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair loss started at about the 3-3.5 month mark. At 6 months now, it is still coming out but since I chopped it into a chin length bob a month ago, it seems to not be as bad. I also went from washing every day to every other day. It does seem to help. I always had nice, healthy hair. Thin, but a lot of it. After surgery, I noticed my hair becoming more coarse. And definitely frizzy. Cutting it helped but the winter cold is not doing me any favors. Also, some layers added much needed body to my now much thinner hair. I hope that it stops falling out soon. I manage to get all my Protein in and have been taking Biotin since the begininning of my 6 month pre-op diet. I do have some re-growth now and can't wait until this is over. -

How often do you weigh?
Lorie269 replied to Holly Lewis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I weigh myself daily. Now that my weight loss is slowing, I need to weigh daily just for accountability reasons. I have not let myself get obsessive about it and once I get off the scale, I don't think about it until the next day. I never weighed myself before I started my WLS program and I know that is part of the reason I allowed myself to get up to 270lbs. I won't let that happen again. -

I am looking forward to a great summer full of activites I haven't enjoyed in years. Amusement parks, hiking, kayaking, maybe even zip-linning! I can't wait to just enjoy being outside and LIVING!

This happened to me as well. I noticed that I broke out quite often from months 1-4 and like you, I hadn't had any issues since my teens. It seems to have stopped for now. I have no idea why it happened. This is the healthiest I have eaten in my life so I was quite shocked. And isn't a ton of Water supposed to be good for your skin?

How long were you off of work?
Lorie269 replied to Kris24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, fortunately, have paid sick leave at my job so I took off a full 3 weeks. I could have taken off more (my surgeon would have given me 4-6wks) but I was more than ready to go back after that. Recovery is different for everybody. I had a rough time my first week so I am glad I took the additional time. Good luck! -

What am i doing wrong?
Lorie269 replied to Sabredy12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off, 20lbs in one week is amazing! I personally did not weigh myself for the first month. I knew that there would be some weight gain from all the fluids they pump you with in the hospital and I didn't want to start this process being obsessed with that. When I did weigh myself, I was so excited to see that I was down 21 lbs. Because of that, I have no idea if my weight went up and down at all during that time. I will say that in the last 4 months, I have weighed EVERY day and I have not had any gains at all. Lots of stalls but no gains and I am down 73.2lbs in 5 months! If you work your sleeve, it will work for you! Good luck! -
